Would you go away alone with young dc

Dh and I aren’t getting along at the moment, I mainly avoid him, but try to get on when near him, but he stresses me out and I just don’t feel that happy.
I saw a short break (1-2 nights) for a great deal-5 star hotel, pool, kids club, by the beach etc.
We live abroad and it would be around a 1 hour, 15 minute drive away.
I have an almost 5 year old Dd, we have great fun together, she’s off Pre school on Mondays and I don’t work Mondays, Dh does and can’t get it off work.
Would you go away for a relaxing break (would it be that on my own with a 4 year old?! 😂) for a long weekend?
I’ve never done it before…anyone ever gone alone before?

I always go away with my two. Always have done and probably always will. We have a week in Wales planned in August. It's quite nice just amusing ourselves as a three

Castleintheclouds · 08/06/2023 20:09

It sounds lovely, I would go with one 4 year old absolutely. Have fun and enjoy the break from your DH.

OneFlipflopleft · 08/06/2023 20:20

I did! For the exact same reason as well. Dd was 4. But I loved it! No walking on egg shells, sleep in the same bed, do girl stuff together. I felt so light, head and feet. Did it again twice after that, for no reason anymore just because I loved it so much.

Norma27 · 08/06/2023 20:20

Love breaks just me and kids.

DanceMonster · 08/06/2023 20:22

1-2 nights with a 4 year old would be a breeze. I took mine to Butlins (an 3 hour drive) alone for a week when they were 3 and 2 because I saw a good deal and DH couldn’t get the time off work. It was lovely.

Cornettoninja · 08/06/2023 20:23

Go for it. A couple of nights not tiptoeing round someone pulling faces or sniping will do you both the world of good.

CatsOnTheChair · 08/06/2023 20:24

From 4 and 6, when DH got a new job, I frequently took the kids away on my own.
The only hiccup was on the first set of flights home - we had booked as a 4, but DH couldn't make it, and the airline were really reluctant to let us check in, as I wasn't seated next to the kids - DHs empty seat was in the middle.... took about half an hour, and several people behind me with better French than I to explain.

Cnidarian · 08/06/2023 20:25

I love a little hotel break with my little girl!

bloodywhitecat · 08/06/2023 20:25

I am a solo foster carer and took my fosterlings away for a few days last year, they were 1 and 2 at the time and we had an absolute blast. Do it!

Cocopogo · 08/06/2023 20:26

Yes I do it all the time with my two DC. Loved it when they were younger. I’d book a hotel with a pool and the three of us would snuggle in the double bed and watch tv or bob about in the pool.
Now they are 18 and 14 and still love chilling together at a hotel albeit in separate beds!

NoraLuka · 08/06/2023 20:28

I took the DC away a few times when they were little, it was to visit family but I was on my own with them for the whole airport/trains/hire cars part. It was fine, even the time our flight was delayed for about 9 hours (who knew killing time at Charles de Gaulle airport would be the DC’s favourite part of the holiday? 😁)

Go for it!

Bairnsmum05 · 08/06/2023 20:31

How do you think single parents go on holiday? Of course i would.

Doggydarling · 08/06/2023 20:33

Loved going camping with my ds, started when he was very young and it was 'our thing' to do.

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 08/06/2023 20:33

Absolutely. My husband sometimes goes on holiday solo with the DC too.

lifestylevlog · 08/06/2023 20:33

I'd go for longer!

underneaththeash · 08/06/2023 20:33

I often go away with my three. I adore DH but he’s not much fun and complains unless we’re really 5 star - but then if we do go 5 star, he complains about the price!

so, we tend to go nice SC with him and then I go to cheaper hotels with kids….

Sheselectric77 · 08/06/2023 20:36

I just got home from 3 nights away with my two dc, similar age to yours. Dh stayed home to work. Had an amazing time. I have taken my dc away solo many times. Including just one of them at a time. Don’t know why you wouldn’t?

Zuyi · 08/06/2023 20:36

Are you kidding me? Just one child in a 5 star resort? It sounds lovely. Why hesitate?

Theplaceneedspainting · 08/06/2023 20:49

I’m hesitating as I worry if anything went wrong, we’re not a massive drive but it would be very difficult to get home if anything happened to the car etc.
I also think he might not be that happy with it and wonder why he wasn’t going.
Now so many have said they do it, it seems ok

100%. I did this regularly when I had one. I wouldn't do it now with a toddler and a small baby but once they're a little older I definitely will again.

mondaytosunday · 08/06/2023 21:17

Well yes, what do you think single parents do? Go and enjoy yourself!

Beezknees · 08/06/2023 21:39

Of course, I've been a lone parent since DS was 10 months old, we've been away loads.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 08/06/2023 21:46

Yes did it several times.
lovely snuggling up in big holiday bed watching a Disney film whilst little one dosed off and I had a cheeky glass of wine 🍷

AngryGreasedSantaCatcus · 08/06/2023 21:51

OH is self employed so I did it quite a few times when DD was little. It was fine.

scrivette · 08/06/2023 21:52

Yes do it, I take my three under 12 away for a few nights each and it's really lovely. DH enjoys the peace and quiet at home!
