Cowboy

My 54 year old partner is taking part in a town parade today. The group he is involved with have cowboy costumes. I have no issue with this- although, l am cringing at a grown man dressing up for parade around the town. He has a beard and came over to my place this morning and l was shocked to see that he had shaved most of his beard and left a ridiculous looking moustache- like Seth Dingle from Emmerdale. I think it's a step too far. It's different if its a charity event but it's not. Apparently, he will shave if off after the parade. I feel like throwing in the towel as lm feeling that he must be lacking in some way to go to this effort. Am l being unreasonable?

Are you actually saying you are ending your relationship because he's shaved his beard off?
Seems a bit of an over reaction.
Yep I'd say YABU.

Greentree1 · 08/06/2023 17:36

He's just having fun all will be back to normal tomorrow.

Have you been together long? Sounds like you don't really know him.

Sunshineclouds11 · 08/06/2023 17:37

YABU

It's hair, it grows

AGoodDayForSomebodyElseToDie · 08/06/2023 17:37

I really can’t see anything wrong with dressing up for a parade and matching his facial hair to his character. I find it more depressing that you would have an issue with this - unless you’re going to drip feed about it being a kinky cowboy with no jeans under his chaps or something.

Emucake · 08/06/2023 17:39

He is behaving quite immature in regards to this parade. It's like he has to go to a massive effort to go over and above to fit the roll. I think that it's the immaturity that's off putting along with the daft looking mustache.

You don't think that dumping someone over facial hair is immature?

You sound fun.

AGoodDayForSomebodyElseToDie · 08/06/2023 17:42

It’s way more immature to worry about his “daft looking moustache” than it is to enjoy a bit of fun. Honestly, release the poor bloke and let him find someone who’s more on his level.

bibbityboppityboo · 08/06/2023 17:42

I think it's so fun that he's really into the role! It's nice community spirit when people take part in these sorts of parades, our local village ones are taken really seriously.

Notimeforaname · 08/06/2023 17:47

He's having fun...
You sound so judgemental, if you're not attracted to him, break up with him.

JennyJenny8675309 · 08/06/2023 18:15

Poor man. Let him have his fun – don’t ruin it for him.

NutellaNut · 08/06/2023 18:18

You sound like fun! Not sure he’s the one being immature here.

Ihateboris · 08/06/2023 18:19

Personally, I'd find this hilarious - he obviously doesn't take himself seriously and just wants to have some fun. I think there's more going on than just shaving his beard off 🤔

reallypuzzledoverthis · 08/06/2023 18:34

What a fun sponge you seem to be!

He's just having fun! What's wrong with that? My town has at least two themed parades per year, and grown adults wear all sorts of weird and wonderful costumes for these (me included, on occasion!). It's fun, it's part of our history, and a community activity. Crowds come to watch, and it's a great atmosphere.

LittleSnowyOwl · 08/06/2023 18:46

You sound fun 🙄

REP22 · 08/06/2023 18:50

Is he going with mates dressed as a mechanic, a motorcycle cop, a native American, a construction worker and a GI?!

Let him have his fun. It's just one day and it's great that he's making a decent effort for himself and the other participants. I hope he enjoys his day out.

Emucake · 08/06/2023 19:37

He can have all the fun he wants and is entitled to go out and have a laugh. I'm not disagreeing with that.

Its the desperate need for recognition of participating that l don't understand. It's like he needs this for his esteem or something. The mustache thing is him trying to fit in better l think. It's not your normal dress up for the day and have fun- it's more to him...

I suspect you are younger than him and he has reached his don't give a fuck what anyone thinks age . Good for him life is so much better when you reach that decision .

missmollygreen · 08/06/2023 19:46

You sound like really hard work, poor bloke!

Florissante · 08/06/2023 19:50

I like him! He sounds like he has a sense of humour.

It's June - is it a Pride parade?

Pinkflipflop85 · 08/06/2023 19:58

I'm sure he'll leave you soon anyway, once he realises how miserable and judgemental you are, so there's no need to worry

If you're going to be in costume you may as well go the whole hog!
