So this happened a few miles away from where I live.
Call me old fashioned but I think this is totally inappropriate and somebody should have called the police.
I have been a naturist for 40 years but the old fashioned kind who doesn't think dangling your genitals in front of families and young children who have gone for a meal is at all appropriate.
I would question why they found the need to do this. There are plenty of naturist clubs in the area.
People go to naturist clubs to get an all over tan and be a member of an organisation that usually has a pool and cheap membership.
My non naturist friends think I'm being stuffy and ridiculous am I?

haven't done anything wrong really, other than ignore social norms which I think we can all agree isn't a crime

Perhaps you're new to Mumsnet Grin

I'm sure it's not just people on Mumsnet who don't want to see a random willy or fanny when out with the family 😂

Genitals are for having sex with or getting rid of human waste. Some things should be kept covered unless a human chooses to see another humans.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

You don't see things like this on PG films and there is a reason.

Ok great, that's your own opinion. I don't completely disagree, FWIW. But our opinions don't inform what other people can or can't do as long as they're acting within the law.

I don't think it will catch on so they are going to get slated and have the piss took out of them.

I bet they don't get invited to many meals out with family and friends.

An openly nudist couple who do this as part of an established lifestyle and who have documented their various travels on social media and who have sought prior permission from the venue are unlikely to be going to cause alarm and distress.

How on earth do you come to that conclusion? Several people left; we can be fairly sure they were alarmed or distressed.

If the pub had made it clear that nude customers were on the menu, people could have avoided. If not, it's foisting nudity on people without their permission. It's non consensual and deliberately pushing at social norms and boundaries, deliberately trying to provoke.

Again, the test of the crime of indecent exposure is whether the intent was to cause alarm and distress, not whether anyone was alarmed or distressed.

And again, other people's consent / permission is not relevant in this instance. The naked couple were acting within the law and with the agreement of the venue. They don't need other people's consent to be naked in public, although they probably needed the consent of the owners to be naked in the pub - but no-one else's consent is relevant.

True though

Ladybrrrd · 07/06/2023 21:41

I can't get worked up about it. They're just bodies, we've all got them. They at least sought permission from the pub...

I do hope they put some towels down though!

That's as may be. I don't fucking want to see them though!!

JandalsAlways · 07/06/2023 21:46

Agree disgusting. I don't want to see that! Good on you if you're into that but don't inflict it on me. I find it really disrespectful

Lockheart · 07/06/2023 21:09

What harm do you think is going to come to the children by seeing normal human bodies in a non-sexual context? They will see similar in changing rooms, for example.

The test of the criminal offence of indecent exposure is whether the naked couple intended to cause alarm or distress, not whether or not they did.

Again, I stress that I too wouldn't want to see this when I'm eating. But the couple haven't done anything wrong really, other than ignore social norms which I think we can all agree isn't a crime.

Yeah, but in the same way as if I ignored social norms and treated the pub to my tone deaf rendition of Joleen at top volume and on repeat for 3 hours straight- its distracting, anti social and would spoil people's dinners.

HoldingTheDoor · 07/06/2023 21:51

We all shit but I don't want to see someone doing that in public either.

Unless the naked couple are sitting on your table, in which case I'd fully support you in complaining, two people you don't want to look at are not quite the same as an inescapable noise. You could just move tables (or ask them to).

ArabeIIaScott · 07/06/2023 21:53

whether the intent was to cause alarm and distress

Convenient that that's virtually impossible to prove one way or another.

'Alarm and distress' are a fairly predictable response to this action, so I'd say they knew exactly what they were doing.

Not at all - if that was true there'd never be any convictions for indecent exposure, which is patently not the case.

Isn't that the same sort of thing people say about mothers breastfeeding in public?

VWHoliday · 07/06/2023 21:59

Did they have shoes on?

HoldingTheDoor · 07/06/2023 22:03

Breastfeeding is feeding an infant. It's a necessity, besides I can't say that I've seen much breast, practically none, when women do. It is in no way equivalent to two exhibitionist twats going into a non naturist restaurant naked with their genitals on display for all to see whether or not they care to and regardless of how it makes them feel. Unless they have very odd anatomy and consume food via their genitalia or arseholes there is really no need for them to get them out in a public restaurant.

fairywhale · 07/06/2023 22:17

This is brilliant, good on them. Balancing out all the covering up and "modest clothing" being normalised and pushed onto women.
Confusing for the kids, but they'll cope if explained.

Jay199111 · 07/06/2023 19:59

They are just naturists, should have every right to be naked, it’s their body their choice. All this kind of talk about ‘they shouldn’t be there’ just sounds very similar wording to what racists and homophobic people sound like.

So if men in your workplace decides to rock up tomorrow butt naked you would be 100% comfortable with that?

UpaladderwatchingTV · 07/06/2023 22:23

Just another pair of exhibitionists pushing the boundaries. Makes me sick, and I'm definitely not a prude! It's one thing to be naked in public if you know other people are comfortable with it, ie, at a naturist beach, or whatever, but by the fact that the vast majority of beach bars/restaurants, insist that beach goers should cover up before entering, it would seem very clear what our society is happy with. Unfortunately though, like with so many things in this country, people are afraid to stand up and be counted! Which in my opinion is one of the reasons this government has been able to get away with all the stunts they've pulled, leading to us being left in the shit we're currently in. If I'd been subjected to this, I'd have gone up to the couple and told them that even if the landlord didn't see that them appearing naked in front of families with children was wrong, I personally objected to it, and probably accidentally spilt my hot coffee in their laps, oh so accidentally!

OneLongSmorgasbord · 07/06/2023 22:23

I wonder if the ones who are fine with this would still think the same if it was a naked bloke hanging around a playground or school.

Would it still be just a laugh then?

Wearing clothes is not a recent thing though.

Its very practical for many reasons too.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 07/06/2023 22:25

I'm not sure lockheart they could claim they are "beginning on their naturist journey with small steps to live their authentic selves ". Claim it's their first foray and all

Of course! Naked cock can pop up all over the shop and it's all just jolly good healthy fun.
