Most women hoover above toilet seat in public toilets to pee?

I was out this weekend and had to use the toilet to pee. I normally hoover above toilet seat to pee in public toilets and was thinking to myself this is difficult especially if I need to do a long pee🙈😂 Is this what most women do too or am I being extra germ conscious and should just wipe the seat and sit down? Sorry if tmi but I'm just curious

How is this less gross than just sitting down and peeing? 😂

Because I'm dealing with my own pee and not countless other people's? And I've never got a drop of my own wee on myself or the seat.

I keep it in my bag at all times for going walking. (I only use a backpack) and once in ASDA, all the toilets were absolutely minging, I couldn't physically go get a cleaner to sort it as I was desperate, I didn't want to clean up other people's mess so I used the she-wee.

I also have a knee problem and sometimes when it's having a bad flare up it locks in a bent position and I just don't want to risk sitting down and getting stuck 😂😂 so that another reason I use it.

I was just offering an alternative for people who don't like touching the seat but don't want to hover.

If its not for you then that's absolutely understandable but there's no need to mock someone else for doing something that has absolutely no bearing on you.

I've always thought hoverers were slightly deranged and germ obsessed

My thoughts exactly. Sit on the darned toilet seat; you're not going to catch an STD or whatever else it is that worries you. If you must, give it a quick once-over with a bit of toilet paper but leave the hoover at home.

JandalsAlways · 07/06/2023 08:18

I always do this, everyone I knows does this!

Kittykatmeowzers · 07/06/2023 08:19

Hovering is supposedly bad for the pelvic floor. Something to keep in mind

Crfafft · 07/06/2023 08:19

Sirzy · 07/06/2023 08:02

I thought it was hovering which actually poses more risk as it increases the chance of UTIs and similar?

I read this too. I always sit, wipe the seat with a bit of paper first

Have never left any mess either! Straight in the bowl, bulls eye.

LizzieSiddal · 07/06/2023 08:19

I do t worry about it unless there’s visible piss in the seat. If I get a few germs on the back of my thighs it’s not going to harm me. I will just make sure jeans/skirt goes in the washing machine that night and that I have a shower.

toomuchlaundry · 07/06/2023 08:20

Why do people hover?

Surely the door handle poses more threat than your arse touching the loo seat

Keitharingsbitch · 07/06/2023 08:21

I thought this was another bit of cleaning I'd been lax on! Depends how gross and busy the toilet is. As in if it's a well used but clean looking toilet I'll still hover.

YinYogi · 07/06/2023 08:22

I’ve never hovered. Or put loo roll over the seat. Or any of that stuff.

What are you worried about? Just wash your hands thoroughly and shower later in the day.

Lightningrain · 07/06/2023 08:22

No, I always sit unless the seat has been left in a horrific state (probably by a hoverer).

What’s going to happen to me if my thighs touch a piece of plastic that others have also sat on? Not a lot.

Apparently it’s not good for you to hover as you don’t fully empty your bladder.

Well you wash your hands in the sink after touching the handle. I doubt people washing their arses in the sink too 😂

Conkersinautumn · 07/06/2023 08:23

I find it easier to carry antibacterial wipes than my gtech but each to their own

Dacadactyl · 07/06/2023 08:23

Depend entirely on the state of the loo as to whether i hover or not. I generally draw the line at cleaning a previous users wee up.

ditalini · 07/06/2023 08:24

I wasn't aware of the many rituals around toilets until I came on Mumsnet.

No, I don't hover. If you do them please clean up after yourself.

If you have to drape the seat in paper, please pick up the bits that inevitably fall on the floor.

Did your mum make you hover when you were a child? Is that where it comes from?

TheChosenTwo · 07/06/2023 08:24

I used to hover because my mum told me to when using public loos, now I just wipe before I use. Nothing bad has happened.

Morestrangerthings · 07/06/2023 08:25

I have a thing about people not putting the lid down when they flush. Seriously, why do people flush with the lid up? It splashes tiny droplets about 6 feet. If you don’t close the lid and flush, chances are you are then wearing some of what is already in the toilet. You can’t see it, but it’s there.

ShowOfHands · 07/06/2023 07:55

I used to do this until my Dyson got too unwieldy to lug round the shopping mall so now I just take a dustpan and brush instead.

This.
I don't hover, I sit. I find it very upsetting when women who hover wee on the toilet seat and then don't clean it.
If everyone just sat it would be much more hygienic.

I agree. Its people hovering that cause urine splash everywhere. I always sit, and am extremely healthy. People get so obsessed with toilets but think of all the doorknobs you touch that others have also touched and havent washed their hands etc.

Fizbosshoes · 07/06/2023 08:28

Depends on the toilets. I do hover sometimes.
Never hoovered and never peed on the seat either

ShimmeringShirts · 07/06/2023 08:28

“Come tell me how you pee, teehee” Hmm

pinkn · 07/06/2023 08:29

I very rarely hover.

mondaytosunday · 07/06/2023 08:29

You could line it with the toilet paper?

Sirzy · 07/06/2023 08:29

MogsEgg · 07/06/2023 08:23

I don’t use my arse when I’m eating either! A fee possible germs on your arse aren’t going to pose a massive risk in life.

Bobshhh · 07/06/2023 08:30

People who hover, what are you genuinely expecting to happen if you sit on the seat?
