Most women hoover above toilet seat in public toilets to pee?

summerfinn · 07/06/2023 07:55

I was out this weekend and had to use the toilet to pee. I normally hoover above toilet seat to pee in public toilets and was thinking to myself this is difficult especially if I need to do a long pee🙈😂 Is this what most women do too or am I being extra germ conscious and should just wipe the seat and sit down? Sorry if tmi but I'm just curious

I've always thought hoverers were slightly deranged and germ obsessed

user1473878824 · 07/06/2023 08:03

No. I do however seem to have to wipe other women’s wee off seats probably because they’ve been ridiculously hovering over them.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 07/06/2023 08:01

Hoverers are the reason the seats get covered in pee in the first place 🤢

I'm sure I read somewhere that it means you don't empty your bladder properly which leaves you more susceptible to infections.

I always sit 🤷‍♀️

Yes, nurse told me this when I had a uti - not that I hover. You are more likely to be ill from hovering and not emptying your bladder properly than from sitting on the seat. I was guilty of not waiting long enough to empty the bladder but the nurse says she tells all hoverers to stop.

cornflakesandtea · 07/06/2023 08:04

I don't hover. I've done it before and I'm too scared of accidentally peeing on my clothes.

ThatFraggle · 07/06/2023 08:04

I hover but always wipe the seat afterwards.

Hayfeverjogon · 07/06/2023 08:04

I went to a huge event at the weekend and the queue for the ladies was really long. By the time I got to the front a woman came out and I went in.

She had piss sprayed ALL over the toilet seat. Could tell she was hoverer. So by avoiding 'germs' on the backs of her legs she made it vile for everyone else. 🤢

Disclaimer: could tell it was urine as it was yellow.

😭

TidyHomeTidyMind · 07/06/2023 08:05

I sit, I like to be comfortable when I pee and I haven't ever caught anything nasty from a loo seat so I won't be changing anytime soon.
Can the people that hover just do the rest of us a favour and wipe your pee drips up after you have finished, thanks!

sherbertyellowteddy · 07/06/2023 08:05

This reminds me of my grandmother in law. She always tells me about how she never sits on any toilet other than her own and will either hover or completely cover with loo roll. I find it very odd.

ichundich · 07/06/2023 08:05

It's a disgusting habit that covers the whole seat in piss.

HeadNorth · 07/06/2023 08:06

I don't hover or wipe the seat unless there is obviously wee on it - just sit and wee. No need to overcomplicate a quick trip to the loo.

ArdeteiMasazxu · 07/06/2023 08:07

If there isn't visible dirt on the seat then I can't think what you'd be scared of with having your thighs touch a plastic surface that has previously been touched by the thighs of another human.

None of us are scraping our fannies over the seat to deposit any kind of bodily fluid on there, are we. And if by any chance there was previously a splash of wee on there which has now been wiped up, there's no great danger from that surface touching the surface of our thighs unless we have any open wounds on our legs. Unbroken skin is a germ proof barrier. Just wash properly in the shower every day and any germs get washed away. It's only open wounds and mucous membranes (such as around the eyes, in the mouth and inside your vagina and anus) which can get infected by contact with dirt, so keep those well clear of any potentially dirty surfaces and only touch those ports of yourself with very clean hands and there's nothing to fear. Toilet seats are normally shaped such that there's no danger of contact with those areas.

I bought a she-wee and use that now.

No need to touch the seat at all, shake it off into the bowl, wipe it with a bit of tissue and pop it in a waterproof case I've got them rinse it once I'm home.

I love it. Also use it when I go hiking because I've got a small bladder and like to drink alot of water.

Really recommend one if public toilets gross you out.

I have a little bag with the she-wee, a mini packet of wetwipes and hand sanitiser.

Are you being sarcastic, or do you actually do this?

Sorry I can't really tell.

Sapphire387 · 07/06/2023 08:09

I neither hoover nor hover in the public loos. Agree with those who say it means you don't empty your bladder properly if you do. Grim.

This is insane. You’re far more likely to get germs from faffing about with all that, and putting it in and out of your bag than you
are from just sitting on the toilet and washing your hands properly afterwards.

The problem with the hoverers is the splash usually left on the seat.

Please wipe it as I find it even grimmer to have to clean previous users wee

How is this less gross than just sitting down and peeing? 😂

DonnaBanana · 07/06/2023 08:12

If you’re going to hover then put the seat up and do it. There’s no reason to have the seat down if you’re not going to sit on it

soundsys · 07/06/2023 08:12

NeedANewPhone1 · 07/06/2023 07:59

I sit. The seat touches the back of my legs. I don't use this body part for eating or anything else and I cover it with clothing. I wash my clothing. I don't worry about germs from this scenario.

Exactly this!

Cat1066 · 07/06/2023 08:12

This reminds me of a friend I once went on a weekend break with. She refused to have a bath in the room because 'someone else's bum has sat in that bath'!!!

Just sit on the seat. There's nothing worse than having to wipe off the wee left by the hoverers.

Aslanplustwo · 07/06/2023 08:12

I have never hovered (nor hoovered) and I don't wipe the seat either. Somehow I have managed to get to almost 64 without catching anything - and I use public loos quite a bit.

DitheringBlidiot · 07/06/2023 08:14

Hovering is how people end up pissing all over the seat. It's dirty and disgusting.

mynameiscalypso · 07/06/2023 08:15

The only thing that grosses me out sometimes about sitting is when you sit on a warm seat. I don't know why because I don't care about germs at all in this context but it always makes me feel a bit odd. That said, I always sit because of the mess otherwise, the fact you're not going to catch anything from sitting on a loo seat and the point that a couple of PPs have made about UTIs. The latter was a point made in one of the potty training books I read and the importance of being in the right position to fully empty your bladder.

NoWeaponsOnTheTable · 07/06/2023 08:15

I just don't understand the hysteria around public toilets.
I sit and, shock horror, don't wipe the seat. If they are especially grim I might even just use antibacterial gel on my hands afterwashing them but I'm generally not that fussed. I have an immune system 🤷‍♂️

Hugasauras · 07/06/2023 08:16

No I sit down, and if you are a hoverer and piss all over the seat and don't clean it up then you are the problem and a dirty ticket to boot.

Yes to This post!

Seriously there will come an age when hovering and peeing comfortably will no longer be possible. Sit down, because eventually age will demand you do. Have a shower at the end of the day.
