To be intrigued what Holly is really like

Holly Willoughby

For so long I thought she was really lovely (from seeing her on tv etc)
Then I read some things on here and other sites over the years about her not being that nice and now the way things have gone over recent events with P.S, it makes her be seen in a different way.
So, what is she really like I wonder, it’s so hard to see her as anything other that lovely or want her to be anything other than lovely and I don’t know why 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thank you @SemperIdem
i didn’t know his name.

Candymay · 07/06/2023 08:20

She’s clearly a terrible friend. I don’t watch her on tv so I’m not familiar with the program but I know of the program and that the two presenters were best friends for years etc. so to turn on him like that is appalling in my opinion.
he had an unwise affair. Not good but should he lose everything for this? I don’t really get it.

I've socialised in the same circles as Holly over the years. One of my good friends knows her well and I've been to a few dinners/girls nights/bbqs etc where she's been there. I absolutely cannot claim to be friends with her or know her very well and obviously I don't know what she's like on TM

BUT I have always found her to be genuine, sincere, interesting to talk to and she seems to take a real interest in people. She always remembers details from the last time she met me and seems mildly obsessed with my dog which I always take as a good sign of someone's personality!

She is guarded about anything 'showbiz' and changes the subject if someone oversteps in their questions but is always polite about it. She also has quite a self deprecating sense of humour which I like

As I said, I can't claim to know her well but I feel I've met her enough times that it doesn't seem to be an act

I agree the monologue was awful and clearly choreographed and scripted but I imagine she was sort of caught between a rock and a hard place.

Doesn't match with lots of comments on here but that's my view 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm just reiterating my post from last night as there are so many 'she seems like' and 'I bet she's'.

My DH also reminded me that she did something very thoughtful for us when she heard we'd had our second child from my friend.

I think it's a shame she's now getting so much heat. PS has said multiple times that she didn't know, asked him outright and he lied to her. He has no reason to protect her now as they're not on talking terms 🤷🏻‍♀️

via an employee of ITV (acquaintance of mine) - she thinks she is above everyone else, the culture IS toxic (which HW flourishes in), and she uses drugs. But then a lot of famous people do. They just don't try to sell a wholesome lifestyle like a hypocrite alongside it.

I just don't believe any of this.

She's clearly extremely professional.

I believe the person who has actually worked around her, funnily enough.

Flowerblooms · 07/06/2023 09:27

A person I work with worked at her house a few years back. They said she was very very rude to them constantly, could tell she thought she was better than everyone else etc. They couldn’t wait to finish the work so they could get away from her and her behaviour. This was roughly 2017/2018

I don't.

I genuinely DO know people who work with her to this day and of course she's extremely polite and professional.

Inkanta · 07/06/2023 09:32

Well I wonder if what we see is the influence of others, like her husband. We don't really know specifically what's her and what's the influence of others. I even wondered if she really truly wants to remain on the morning programme. It can't be much fun. The statement on Monday sounded 'not her and people say it sounded fake. So who is Holly and who's influencing her is what I wonder.

Hollyisalrightactuallysorry · 07/06/2023 09:34

These stories of her being rude, up herself, into drugs just don't gel at all with the person I have socialised with.

She has a great sense of humour, laughs at herself, I've never even seen a whiff of drugs and is kind and has been personally kind to me.

And to be clear I'm not well off and always felt out of place when at these events and she's never made me feel anything but welcome.

I once even gave her a lift in me gasp 2006 ford focus that was full of kids crap and she didn't bat an eyelid.

Ah well said in her defence. Good to know.

UndercoverCop · 07/06/2023 09:45

I don't know her at all, but surely you can't expect TV presenters to just be themselves?!
So the speech she gave she should've just said fuck Philip he's nothing but a dirty nonce and I for one am glad I don't have to pretend to get along with him anymore, he's an arsehole but he got me my job here.
Of course she isn't! But if she'd ignored it and said nothing that would've been wrong too.
DH worked in the TV/film industry for more than a decade, same as with all jobs some people are nice, some are not. With the 'talent' it's even less likely they're going to be the sweet wholesome type as the industry is cut throat and you have to have quite an ego to want to do those kinds of jobs.

AntiSocial6DaysAWeek · 07/06/2023 09:50

I don't understand why people think the fixation has been on HW and not PS. Literally all anyone has been talking about is him. Now she is discussed because she's made statements.

I've always found her fake but she's just doing a job. Her 'monologue' was an absolute cringe fest. I don't even watch TM but saw the clip and tbh I just wouldn't watch anything with her on. She may be an absolute cow to people behind the scenes but so are a lot of people and management clearly think she's likeable.

Whatever I think about PS (nothing positive to make that clear), I think she severely threw him under the bus given he was supposed to be a close friend. Not sure whether that's because she knows something we don't or because she is saving herself, but that alone contributes to her insincerity.

Still can't believe she thought the nation were all shaken and troubled. Wtf.

JamSandle · 07/06/2023 09:53

It's really weird the entitlement people feel to public figures. It's a job. I'm definitely not 100% myself at work. I don't know many who are. Why is that suddenly a punishable offence?

Hollyisalrightactuallysorry · 07/06/2023 09:55

@Inkanta thanks. I think it's easier to think that someone who is generally regarded as good looking with money, influence, fame and a seemingly perfect family life is secretly a bitch who spits at the peasants beneath her. Not my experience at all though

I will also say that I did have a discussion with her many years ago when she lost a lot of weight. She was absolutely adamant that she wanted to own the narrative on that and would not discuss her weight (and vowed never to) with the media.

She was acutely aware of the impression it can have on young girls and didn't want to even acknowledge weight loss publicly for fear it would cause young girls to try and lose weight as well. The way she talked about it was very considered and I remember at the time thinking I wish more celebs wouldn't be drawn into conversations about weight loss

Exactly. Particularly women. Its weird.

SallyWD · 07/06/2023 09:58

I really don't care. She looks pretty and acts professionally on TV which is all that seems to be required of a female TV presenter. Why should we care if she's an angel or a bitch? The truth is probably that she's somewhere in the middle, like the rest of us.

RoseMarigoldViolet · 07/06/2023 10:23

I think that ITV would have told her to make that speech. They would have written it and told her how they wanted her to present it. And she would have done it because she is under contract to them.

the80sweregreat · 07/06/2023 11:30

I've not read good things about her on here , but they obviously think she'll be fine and I'm sure the viewing figures won't suffer.
The speech was a bit cringy , but remember many people watch this show and like it , so it was a way of including those who are faithful to it and tune in daily or even see the presenters as friends.
Holly was only doing as she told to do and say
If people don't like it , don't watch it.
I have only tuned in lately to see what she would say , but haven't actually watched any of it in years. The ads get on my nerves

inappropriateraspberry · 07/06/2023 11:40

I bet she's a normal person, dealing with children and a career. Thinking about the next load of washing and what they'll eat tonight.
Do we ever see the real person on tv? All presenters are acting to a degree.

BlueAndGreenStripes · 07/06/2023 11:46

Everyone has good and bad points, including no doubt her.
I don’t understand the modern need of tearing someone down and trying to prove they are different from what they are perceived to be. People seem to enjoy seeing anyone perceived as ‘nice’ to fall flat on their face or be shamed in some way. Even in every day life I hear bitchy gossipy people trying to change peoples perceptions of ordinary ‘nice’ people around them. That to me is what is toxic.

monsteramunch · 07/06/2023 12:01

I don't think the two sort of camps on here are necessarily mutually exclusive.

Some people are really nice to their loved ones / friends / family / acquaintances in real life (like @Hollyisalrightactuallysorry) but unpleasant and abrupt at work 🤷🏻‍♀️

Modern day witch hunting.
