To be intrigued what Holly is really like

Holly Willoughby

For so long I thought she was really lovely (from seeing her on tv etc)
Then I read some things on here and other sites over the years about her not being that nice and now the way things have gone over recent events with P.S, it makes her be seen in a different way.
So, what is she really like I wonder, it’s so hard to see her as anything other that lovely or want her to be anything other than lovely and I don’t know why 🤷🏻‍♀️

@RestingMurderousFace How do you know?

@Frances0911 Oh for sure she’s always been sickly sweet sometimes, but how could a person literally turn that on and off so easily and seemingly be the complete opposite off stage…awful

Because it’s an acting job? Do you think actors in other roles such as soaps, films etc have to be like the character they’re playing to be able to turn it on and off? Do you think kids TV presenters on CBeebies talk like that to their friends in real life? Presenting is just a different kind of acting job, parts of the show will have been scripted and rehearsed, the producers with the in-ear headsets and the autocues will give instructions and presenters will quickly learn what kind of personality does and doesn’t get positive audience feedback. They’re professionals in a role and to be honest most people at work can turn types of behaviour on and off as needed for their job role, how someone acts at work isn’t reflective of who they are in real life. Why wouldn’t a successful TV star be able to turn their acting on and off?

I couldn’t care less about Holly but I always wondered why her and Phil were everywhere. Why couldn’t they get someone else to present dancing on ice? So boring having the same faces everywhere. It’s like Ant and Dec. Yawn.

Completely agree with You

Allabitweirdtobehonest · 06/06/2023 22:56

@mrssilky Yes, I feel similar, it’s so weird as complete opposite ways and reports from people

@Efacsen Do you mean people spoke well of her pre 2019, but not after?

I think she must have some balls to have come back and appeared on air, I mean, she can’t be soft? 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheWebWeWeave · 06/06/2023 22:58

Why would you even care?
She's paid to do a job, l think she's very overrated alongside many other tv presenters, l don't watch tv, bores me senseless.

adriftinadenofvipers · 06/06/2023 23:00

I've always found her vaguely irritating - the stereotypical 'dumb blonde'. I don't watch TM but I do watch DoI and I found the pair of them a bit irritating.

I can't quite credit how she has thrown PS to the wolves to save herself. I much prefer Alison Hammond's, "I love PS but he has done wrong". HW chose to enmesh herself and her family with PS and his family. They were 'besties'. The two of them are inextricably linked. You can never look at HW without recalling PS. Which is why she needs to go.

With friends like her, who needs enemies?!

Allabitweirdtobehonest · 06/06/2023 23:00

@MolkosTeenageAngst Well, yes, but to have a drastically different *Real personality is actually quite scary, I mean, that’s some good acting.
I can’t imagine Ruth is that much different in real life for example

Way too sweet to be wholesome. Full of her own importance and extremely irritating, nauseatingly so.

Daisyb1080 · 06/06/2023 23:06

I met her once with my then boyfriend who she already knew. She just looked me up and down and proceeded to ignore me. Not particularly impressed to be honest.

FMLWTF · 06/06/2023 23:11

I don’t know her. I do know Martin Frizzel and can confirm he is not a nice person. He is very aloof and doesn’t talk to any below senior management/presenter level at ITV. I don’t know how Fiona Phillips sticks him tbh - she always got a lot of flack in her GMTV days but I can promise you she is absolutely lovely, very normal and genuine.

Holly and Fearne drifted because Fearne is a tee-total vegan whose vibe is all mental health and clean-living these days. Holly, not so much. ❄️

People in the public sphere are generally selling you a persona. You are the customer, they are providing a "product".

Generally, I thing the "product" is not themselves, in their entirety, it's a facet of their personality.

That seems like a fair deal to me. So on the face of it, HW is showing you one facet of her personality, just as her previous co host showed one facet of his.

Why get shocked when other facets of their personality emerge?

Wheresthebeach · 06/06/2023 23:12

I’ve never been keen on the giggling. Only seen her on DOI not This Morning. I’d say she’s currently coming across as ‘Mean Girl’

LizzieSiddal · 06/06/2023 23:12

Holly and the whole of ITV management knew PS was gay, years before he did his “official” Coming Out charade. I knew he was gay when he was very closely linked to Peter Powel 30 years ago. Yes that Peter who went on to marry Anthea Turner. It was a very open secret to anyone who worked in TV.

So they’ve all been lying to the general public and it’s why they’re desperate to cover it all up. Yes they are only a TV programme but when you craft a persona of being all friendly and a family, it irritates the public when that is a lie.

Gowlett · 06/06/2023 23:13

Her job is to act, essentially. She’s been in the media game a long time. Folk act like she was some sort of ingenue when Phil took her under his wing at TM. Not so. She knows all the right people. Her husband is a top TV exec. You don’t get far in entertainment by being nice. I remember when she was in the cover of teen mags in the 90s.

I also think that the moment things went wrong for PS was when he disowned his brother. That tipped the balance for him.

ScoobyDoo80 · 06/06/2023 23:14

Knew her in the late 90s- our boyfriends of the time were friends. She was boy mad, into performing arts, swore like a sailor and was very modest. Really down to Earth and fun-loving.

Mamai90 · 06/06/2023 23:16

I don't like her. She's gone about this all in the worst way possible and that speech was vomit inducing! Although what I will say is that she shouldn't be taking the blame for what PS did, or certainly if she's in some way complicit then the whole of ITV is and she's no more guilty than anyone else involved. I also feel that there's an element of misogyny here because it seems the woman is taking the brunt of it and I feel if the shoe was on the other foot no way would the man be hung out to dry like HW has been, that's what I don't like.

truthhurts23 · 06/06/2023 23:19

ask kim woodburn "an utter little bitch"😂

EmmiJay · 06/06/2023 23:20

Way back in the day, Holly seemed to be a regular woman who said a few crass things but was harmless, I think. Now it's like she's been modelled to be this version of Holly, and I bet she's fed up tbh. I would be, too, with everyone constantly picking me apart. I still like her though😬

raspberrycordial · 06/06/2023 23:25

I'd really like to know what happened with holly and her husband with her car that time it was "stolen" and then she remembered he'd taken it to work. I get really weird controlling vibes from her husband.

Allabitweirdtobehonest · 06/06/2023 23:35

@raspberrycordial How do you know he’s controlling? I haven’t ever read anything about him 🤷🏻‍♀️
Did she get with him due to his job/position?

She comes across as someone for whom life has always been easy. Attractive enough, nice enough, personable enough. Not outstandingly so in any area but level across all fields.

readbooksdrinktea · 06/06/2023 23:39

Vacuous is the word that has always come to mind for me.

Efacsen · 06/06/2023 23:40

Sorry I wasn't very clear

The resurrected thread with positive comments was Dec 2019-Feb 2020 and I've not read anything praising her like that recently

IDK maybe those PP have left MN in the last 3 years or have just become disillusioned with her over recent events?
