To hate the trend of shops giving lower prices for ‘members’

Just give us lower prices without forcing everyone to carry cards or download apps (that glitch/not scan/no wifi in store).

Just wasted 30min of lunchtime in Boots only to realise my physical card is at home, so I would be charged more. Logged into Boots site and the number isn’t even on there - “we keep the last 3 digits hidden”.

Amazon Prime wins again.

Go on tell me how much you all love carrying cards/downloading apps for £1 off some foot peel socks.

+He is a proud man and didn’t like to think he was bothering his grandchildren*

That's the issue. Not the Clubcard.

Are you on crack? The issue is 100% shops making club card a requirement to access food at normal prices, there are many people who are elderly/challenged/homeless who don’t have access to club card, give your head a wobble.

DustyLee123 · 07/06/2023 06:54

It doesn’t bother me. All shops take multiple pictures of you when you’re in there anyway, so there’s no anonymity.

sunglassesonthetable · 07/06/2023 06:55

You also have to go into the app, every time you shop to activate the offer. Otherwise you pay the higher price. Its deliberately like this because they know people forget.

= small plastic fob

Believeitornot · 07/06/2023 06:59

Points cards have always been about data. Always. They’re having to up the ante because shoppers have changed their behaviour and shop around. So doing this helps them identify how you do it.

FWIW Boots advantage card always pissed me off because you couldn’t part redeem and it’s run by a Bullingdon boy so I try and avoid it anyway.

User18540964 · 07/06/2023 07:40

I don't want a fob that says Tesco cluttering up my keyring, I don't mind loyalty stuff online as you put it in the account and forget it, it just automatically works but I don't want the extra bother if I buy something from a shop

User18540964 · 07/06/2023 07:44

It's inconvenient and not inclusive like many things nowadays

Pfpppl · 07/06/2023 07:51

I don't mind loyalty cards, but the whole concept of different prices if you've got one gets on my nerves. Most of the time the"member's" price is just the normal price anywhere else.

I use the stocard app on my phone, works without wifi/data and keeps everything in one place.

LovelyLovelyWarmCoffee · 07/06/2023 12:17

LizzieSiddal · 06/06/2023 16:22

To me when you walk in a shop and it’s full of “Member price” stickers, it’s saying fuck off to anyone without the membership card.

Exactly! I just end up not shopping there anymore at all.

DedicatedFolllowerofFashion · 07/06/2023 13:27

I don't know how something like this is so much of a challenge for most ordinary people in the UK. I carry my phone which has my bank cards on it and my Stocard app with all my cards. I go into Sainsbury and take a scanner and I zap my card ...easy. In Waitrose and Tesco I have to zap my scorecard to release a scanner. Job done. At M and S I zap my Sparks card at the checkout. I'm not hard up but appreciate the savings with these.

DedicatedFolllowerofFashion · 07/06/2023 13:30

So many places are also doing Aldi/Asda/Tesco price match as well now.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 07/06/2023 13:41

I actually don't mind this. I shop at Sainsbury's for basics as it's closer but use Asda for bigger shops
Asda have a great reward scheme, even if you don't buy the " star products"
I spend nectar points in Argos to buy bedding etc

uncomfortablydumb53 · 07/06/2023 13:50

Anyone who is professionally offended by this obviously doesn't have money issues
I'm on disability benefits so even £1 saved matters to me
As for selling data? I've got more important things to worry about
Just my opinion

Elphame · 07/06/2023 13:53

I quite enjoyed getting one over on Sainsbury's this morning.

I put the items with the Nectar discount through as one purchase and saved £15. The rest I put through separately without and on a different card.

Pointless and petty I know but it amused me. I'll probably do it again!

Should have used your accrued nectar points to pay for them and get them free as well 😂

It's an utter pain in the arse. A few times I've popped in Tesco on the way home to pick up something. While I was there I thought I would add a few other things from my list then realise I don't have my card. Only things going in my basket are the ones that don't penalise non-card holders..... More fool you Tesco.

It's Waitrose all the way for me I'm afraid. I feel they are the most of fair of all the supermarkets in terms of their marketing and what they promise/deliver.

Afraid to tell you that Waitrose have started doing the same, offering members prices on certain goods.

I don't know how the scheme works. Would anyone mind explaining the Nectar discount?

How does it get one over on Sainsbury @Elphame ? I'd like to try that too, if you have time to reply? Thanks

I don't have 500 points or I would have.

I hardly ever shop in Sainsbury's so my nectar shop which earned me virtually no points (it was alamost all on Glayva) did get me a £4.50 voucher which actually covered the non nectar shop! I didn't use it but it's such a good Nectar offer at the moment for my favourite liqueur that I'll probably pop back tomorrow and use it against more.

I'm more than happy to play supermarkets at their own game!

Basically all I'm doing is breaking up their data collection and messing with their algorithms a bit.

Their computer thinks that I bought x products today all of which were nectar priced. It also has another shop that it can't actually associate with me so immediately the data they collect is incomplete and actually incorrect.

As I said - petty and pointless but I do all I can to give false information to marketing companies.

Yes, the odd product here and there if you look on the app. Nowhere near the level of Tesco. They have signs everywhere.

Collected all the points going for years.

Everyone of my phones has been bought with Tesco clubcard points over the years at the summer double up event. Also family railcards and a Dyson..

We ate all the food🤷‍♀️
which we would have eaten anyway. Also collected on the credit card, petrol and tesco mobile.

Nectar points buy presents at Argos once a year.

Just replaced my microwave using Asda points.

Tend to shop in Lidl a lot now and go for the 10% of everything shop for my big monthly shop.

Tbh they can have my shopping patterns .

lieselotte · 07/06/2023 16:12

My DH was complaining about this in Sainsbury's.

I don't have an objection to special prices for Nectar card holders but why do you need the app, why can't you just use the card to get the offer?

Yet another example of a marketing department being run by 20 somethings who think everyone is glued to their phones. Occasionally I go out without mine! But I have my purse and that has my cards in.

lieselotte · 07/06/2023 16:13

If you use a loyalty card they know about your shopping patterns anyway, it really doesn't need to be an app.
