To not understand Mumsnet policy on thread deletion

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 03/06/2023 09:15

Why is it that a thread literally titled I hate Kids is allowed to run for days, yet a thread daring to question whether an elderly woman was rude is deleted quickly? Also there is currently a thread calling children vile names, such as Cretins and Crotch Droppings which has not been deleted. Will this be deleted as its in reference to other threads?

OP posts:

Mumsnet, a hell on earth network gathering vile women calling their own blood and flesh vile names. Yes, no wonder. I will be happy if they delete my whole profile for pointing the truth how they vile really are to use toxic threads as consumer ratings

With all due respect, you have no idea how many of the vile posts are written by women or men. It is an anonymous forum.

Please don’t generalise Mumsnet as a network gathering vile women. It does attract some vile people. It also attracts some caring, smart and creative people too.

The bus thread was full of malicious idiots goading the poor woman, some piling on with even more glee when they found out her ailment and a couple of posters mocking her for her illness.
IMO it would have been better if those nasty fuckers taking pleasure in taunting her had their posts deleted, even better if they’d been banned.
I expect the OP asked for the deletion herself - don’t blame her.

It was deleted for breaking talk guidelines. No need to feel sorry for a troll.

Softoprider · 03/06/2023 09:53

This awful habit of jumping on threads and being vile was covered on one of the soaps this week causing the thread starter to have a panic attack. I cannot for the life of me imagine the pain some of these threads have caused to innocent people only guilty of being famous

And classics is full of obviously made up posts.

LOL, i start thinking that about the woman who made the post last night about her kids being arseholes. either drunk, mental or idle person to create such a vile post.

Some of the threads in Classics are quite dull.

Nothing at all to suggest it was a troll?

PatientZorro · 03/06/2023 10:01

I think some people use their self proclaimed troll hunting expertise as an excuse for their spite @TimesRwo

Yes it is some skill to decide it was a troll from a post from MN saying it broke talk guidelines…!

Yet here you are, signing up, reading threads and posting....

😂

johnd2 · 03/06/2023 10:03

That was deleted because posters were being horrible to a vulnerable poster and the OP was getting increasingly upset. The OP left the thread last night and I assume reported it this morning.
It would have been inappropriate to leave it up, I don't think it was deleted because of the subject itself.

Usernamen · 03/06/2023 10:06

ImustLearn2Cook · 03/06/2023 09:24

If it is about the bus thread, I don’t think it was discriminatory against the elderly woman. And I don’t think it should have been deleted. I only saw it at the beginning, when it was only a few pages long. So, maybe it got worse. Or maybe it had loads of people reporting it.

Surely that was deleted because it was quite obviously a troll?

I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, but that one was just too obvious. All the very convenient drip feeds. The OP literally came out with “I have a brain tumour and not long left to live” about 10 pages in, because she was not getting the responses she was hoping for.

: this is actually my very first account and I post not that much. Having in mind what the women are on here, I will never ever create my own post asking for advice, LOOOOOOLLLLLLLL

Yes from what other posters say it sounded like it went downhill and MN were right to delete it, but I don't get why other awful threads are allowed to remain as they are deemed OK.

People's thresholds of awfulness vary widely though. I like dark humour and have often laughed at things that other FMs may have been appalled by, but a couple of times I've been 😮by the lack of empathy shown to posters who are clearly having a pretty tough time, and occasionally by casual racism.

HelloThereChatGBT · 03/06/2023 10:27

The threads that were deleted were because of pile one on the OP. It wasn’t original post that was the issue. The OPs requested deletion and when there are just so many shitty responses they will delete.

Sigmama · 03/06/2023 10:40

Beverly ha, as a newbie, welcome to the gathering of vile women!

Nanny0gg · 03/06/2023 10:40

Paperlate · 03/06/2023 09:52

It was pretty obvious it was a troll. But as we are not allowed to say that on threads and no MNHQers around at that time of night it stayed up far to long.

They usually say that if that's the case.

I was arguing with that poster but a lot of information was dripped came out in response to arguments against her points. (and she was pretty rude herself)

I knew it would be zapped because some of the replies were utterly vile.

And this thread may go soon as it's turning into a TAAT

KR2023 · 03/06/2023 10:44

@Sigmama @BeverlyHa

There may be <<whispers>> MEN here too you know 😧- just to warn you. Not everyone here is a woman!!! They sometimes manage to get through the signing up process somehow...

MN tells you when it’s a troll or a PBP.

Breaking talk guidelines means lots of posters broke guidelines. I was on the that thread and it became vile towards OP.

HTH 😂

Well if you look at talk guidelines there are at least 5 different ways to break them, including personal attacks and troll hunting. There were certainly some vicious personal attacks on the OP on the deleted bus thread.

But posts doing that are deleted individually, and posters possibly banned.
A thread taken down would suggest it’s the op who’s the main issue.

Nope, not at all.

Usually MN delete the individual posts when it’s just a handful of them but when it’s pages of them, they delete the thread. Hence why it broke talk guidelines.

So deleting the thread is no indication that it’s a troll.

PatientZorro · 03/06/2023 11:17

We’ll have to agree to differ @Hannahsbananas, unless MN clarifies which talk guidelines were broken.
I was on that thread last night - one delightful poster (scumbag) asked the OP why she was wasting her time posting when she didn’t have long left due to her illness. Debate is fine in AIBU, but vicious pile-ons are not.
