Am I weird, or are they? (Light-hearted, I hope!)

Having a (supposedly) light-hearted conversation at work about 80s music recently, someone mentioned Shakin' Stevens and laughter ensued Ankit the double denim and the moves, when I piped up, laughing along and admitted he was my first crush.

Colleagues looked shocked, they worked out I was about 4 or 5 at the time, I said that was correct. To which they said, "You were 4 and fancied an adult? Bit weird!", Bewildered, I said all kids have pop star crushes and they said yes, as teens, not as a child. Now I felt like an absolute freak. I laughed it off though.

So, I asked my DP if he had crushes at that age and said no. Am I / was I a massive weirdo?!

PS: to make matters worse. My next crushes were Holly Johnson and Neil Tennant. which my family found hilarious and I was too young and sheltered to understand what was so funny.

Please make me feel like I'm less of a weirdo.

My first crush, well love, was George Michael in his Wham days. I loved him so much it hurt.

I am loving this thread. Growing up in the 80's, it has brought back many memories.

Oh yes I remember moving swiftly on from Shaky to George Michael 🤣.

Another Shakey crushee here - that man was the bomb (when you're 7). Also Little Joe from Bonanza Grin

Oh god my first crush was Shaky I was about twelve, I do like when Christmas comes around and I can sing along to Merry Christmas .
Though when I see footage of back then I can still say he was good looking 😍

Did he drive you cray-ay-ay-zy? 😜

My parents used to say that tell me that my first crush was Derek Griffiths on Playschool
Working out (with a quick google) I would have been watching it 1975 - 1977 aged 3-5 years old
He would have been roughly 30
Apparently I would just stare at him smiling when he came on the screen Blush

I remember watching a tv special with Paul McCartney during their "Wings Over America" tour back in 1976. I must have been about six-years-old and thought he was very cute, I liked Bryan Ferry at age 11 and definitely loved David Sylvian at age twelve.

I suppose looking at it now, that may be a bit odd but I didn't think so at the time.

Oh god, I've just remembered something mortifying which isn't celebrity related but to do with a tradesman who came to our house when I was very little. I was absolutely convinced he loved me we would get married...to the extent that I told my parents "I love him and he loves me". They obviously all burst out laughing and I remember being so embarrassed. I don't know what the hell I was thinking but I had been watching a lot of Disney and must have thought he was dashing and princely. I would have been under 5 for sure. It's one of my earliest memories, probably because everyone laughed at me!

😂😂😂 this is brilliant. Your parents must have wet themselves! Utterly adorable and hilarious

Apparently my husband looks like Lee van Cleef!

Lucky, lucky you!

Tortiemiaw · 03/06/2023 19:23

😀I've just had a look, and he does a bit!

thecatneuterer · 03/06/2023 19:24

My first crushes were when I was about 8 on Tony Curtis and Roger Moore, who were well into their forties at that time.

JudgeRudy · 03/06/2023 19:29

I can definitely remember having crushes as a very young child. My dad had a workmate who I thought was very attractive. I'd have been about 4/5. It wasn't a sexual thing but definitely romantic. Looking back he was a good looking bloke....but things went weird later. As a 10 year old my friends fancied the likes of Starsky or Hutch. My crush was Columbo!

FlightOfTheProcrastinator · 03/06/2023 19:31

I fancied cartoon Egon Spengler from Ghostbusters. 🤷‍♀️

LunaMay · 03/06/2023 20:24

By 5 i was definitely planning on marrying The Goblin King...

tinselvestsparklepants · 03/06/2023 21:59

Mighty Mouse was an early one. No, I don't know why either. As for the Foxy Robin Hood... he still has it!

2pence · 04/06/2023 09:41

Bo Duke from Dukes of Hazzard was my crush at similar age.

A bit older, 8-10ish, Adam Ant and Grace Jones and, obscurely, Catherine Rabett's character from the 20's inspired sitcom You Rang M'Lord 😆

2pence · 04/06/2023 09:42

...and I wanted to be the Fox version of Robin Hood!
