Am I weird, or are they? (Light-hearted, I hope!)

Having a (supposedly) light-hearted conversation at work about 80s music recently, someone mentioned Shakin' Stevens and laughter ensued Ankit the double denim and the moves, when I piped up, laughing along and admitted he was my first crush.

Colleagues looked shocked, they worked out I was about 4 or 5 at the time, I said that was correct. To which they said, "You were 4 and fancied an adult? Bit weird!", Bewildered, I said all kids have pop star crushes and they said yes, as teens, not as a child. Now I felt like an absolute freak. I laughed it off though.

So, I asked my DP if he had crushes at that age and said no. Am I / was I a massive weirdo?!

PS: to make matters worse. My next crushes were Holly Johnson and Neil Tennant. which my family found hilarious and I was too young and sheltered to understand what was so funny.

Please make me feel like I'm less of a weirdo.

During the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984, I was apparently most insistent that I was going to marry Daley Thompson.

I was 5.

I was completely in love with Adam Faith when I was 3ish. Nothing remotely sexual as I was 3. I think if anything I wanted him as a friend/older brother/dad type that I was 'married' to with no real idea of what marriage was (other than "the Prince and Princess got married, ruled wisely and well, had many children and lived happily ever after" kind of utter innocence").

I had a dad I adored, an older brother I worshipped as God and tried to emulate in all things, a little brother I also adored and protected from everything, an older male cousin I adored and worshipped, and was actually surrounded by lovely, kind, patient men, so need for father-figure type substitutes. I just slotted Adam Faith into that lot because I liked his looks and he sang a song called "Little Children" which I may have taken personally. No idea what the words were beyond the title.

Crushes are no problem in the young. Rather charming I think.

I had a huge crush on Stefan Edberg. I remember watching him win Wimbledon in 1988. I was 5.

When I was 8 I loved Jason Donovan and the fox from Robin Hood

My first crush was the tennis player Jimmy Connors (I can’t imagine most folk on here will have a clue who he is) think I was about 8 or 9.

I believed I was going to marry him 😂

Does seem kind of weird now when I think about it.

When I was 10 my friend and I both had a crush on Tom Cruise and Billy Idol 😳. We used to role play husband and wife and pretend one of us was Tom Cruise and whoever wasn't played his wife. We took turns at being Tom 🤣🤣🤣.

I also loved the fox 🤣. I think it's the voice that's the appeal. When I was 8, I had a crush on a guy in my school who was in his final year around 17/18. I used to sneak up when I saw him walking around school and walk next to him 🤣🤣

I had a crush on Barry Sheen when I was so young I couldn’t say his name properly! Though that was just getting all giggly over a poster, I think.

I do remember deciding I was in love with, and going to marry, Peter Davidson when he started playing Dr Who, I was six.

Mine were Victor Mature and Jack Nicholson. I also liked Lee van Cleef. Which is disturbing.

My first crush was John Travolta in Grease. I had just turned eight.

At the age of about 5 I was totally besotted by Harry Belafonte. To be fair he was very beautiful.

Another vote for the fox from Robin hood. I'm in good company it seems! Also, Lance Bass, all the boys with center parted hair in plaid shirts on nickelodeon, and a boy named Sean who spurred my interest in boys with glasses.

Oh god my first crush was Shaky I was about twelve, I do like when Christmas comes around and I can sing along to Merry Christmas .
Though when I see footage of back then I can still say he was good looking 😍
