To think Phillip schofield scandal is homophobia?

Have I missed something in that the guy Philip had the affair with was not a minor?

He was a minor when they met, as was Cheryl Cole and Liam Payne for example and no one has anything bad to say about that relationship.

I'm not sticking up for Philip and really dislike him, and also think even if the runner was above the age of consent is most definitely questionable behaviour but I can't help think of it was a heterosexual affair it would not be treated in the same way?

Actually I have re read what I posted and you are not quoting what I said?

among gay men) a gay or bisexual young man with a slim build and youthful appearance.

So it is exclusive to gay men

or do you want to argue with the definition of the word? If so I didn’t create it

Kerfuffler · 08/06/2023 21:23

It's twink.

Kerfuffler · 08/06/2023 21:24

See also: chicken.

Kerfuffler · 08/06/2023 21:33

Twink been used in UK gay slang for decades and longer btw - and refers to young men - not their admirers.

Your Friends quote is twinkie - a completely different thing.

But oddly enough, both referring to significantly younger partners…..

So ‘completely different’? I don’t think so.

https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/twinkie#:~:text=twinkie%20in%20American%20English,has%20little%20value%20or%20worth

The American English Twinkie can be a version of the British English "Twink", but it's still only referring to gay men.

Twinkie's other context in American English is the one that would more likely apply to Friends:
a person or thing that seems appealing or attractive but has little value or worth.

Quitelikeit · 08/06/2023 22:18

We are not in America though

And according to the Oxford Dictionary it is the definition I mentioned before

Surely we can’t be expected to know definitions from all over the globe for the same word ( well when they differ)

Kerfuffler · 08/06/2023 22:25

No, we're not in America.

I've never heard anyone British say Twinkie about men; the only American example of it in a slang reference I've ever seen is today with the Friends example brought up here (and then a dictionary rummage).

In every American gay-man-specific context I've only ever heard Twink used by Americans, never Twinkie.

God I'm bored.

But this is just semantics.

The word ‘twink’ might apply to gay men, but a proclivity towards young looking people/partners is absolutely not exclusive to gay men.

LifeIsPainHighness · 08/06/2023 22:28

CrazyArmadilloLady · 08/06/2023 15:40

I’m not.

I just find the assertion that ‘gay men can have a taste for them’ pretty offensive.

I agree.

Also what is this ‘so common with gay men’ bollocks. Where did that poster read that?

Yep. Sorry, i got totally stuck in semantics mode.

Absolutely agree with your post.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 tell me about it. I was trying to defend myself against a poster who said I offended them

im glad you came on board tbh 😂

Kerfuffler · 08/06/2023 22:39

Just to change the subject...

When I was 9 in the late 80s, my school asked us to write to famous people to ask for their favourite recipe.

Guess who got recipes and SIGNED Schofield pics (apple crumble fwiw)....I think it was all sent by his agent though.

50450750q · 08/06/2023 23:00

I am not responsible for creating that word

You kind of are though...

But @Kerfuffler has just agreed with me that the word is irrelevant.

Trying to assign the behaviour to gay men, when straight men do it at least as often (are known for it!), is wrong.

I can’t help it if the definition of a word offends you?! Go to Twitter or the DM if you want to label it as offensive- they seem to have control over the U.K. these days….

Schofield did what he did

let’s not get side tracked here

Confused

My goodness.

The word doesn’t offend me. It is neither here nor there.

As I have repeatedly said, it’s the asserting that this behaviour (I can’t remember your exact words, as you withdrew the post, but it was something along the lines of ‘gay men having a taste for’?) is peculiar to gay men.

That’s what I’m taking issue with.

Boomboom22 · 08/06/2023 23:46

Fgs it's not the words it's the way @Quitelikeit made an assumption about all gay men, Applied a characteristic to a whole group, a stereotype. Not about the word twink or gay or their meaning!

LifeIsPainHighness · 08/06/2023 23:48

I just searched Twinkie in the Urban Dictionary.

Please only do the same if you have a strong stomach as there are various uses of the word and a few that are pretty grim

And as I said my comment said SOME gay men can have certain tastes. there was an apology you are derailing the thread (last comment to you. Hopefully our paths never cross again)

I hope you are not trying to distract the attention away from
Schofield?

Dorrmouse · 09/06/2023 04:41

Whatever else it is, it's been an excellent media diversion for whatever nastiness the government is currently up to... though it looks like the state endorsed media shills have moved back to Harry and Meghan again for now...

And for the umpteenth time, some straight men have exactly the same tastes, just a different sex.

I don’t know why you are struggling with this so much.

Quitelikeit · 09/06/2023 08:51

Yeah and they aren’t called twinks

i was talking about gay men and specifically PS!!!!! or do I have to cover the spectrum of sexuality? Just to appease you

Quitelikeit · 09/06/2023 08:52

Why are you keen to point out that some straight men like younger girls?

What has that got to do with this?

If Schofield did this to a girl the same age then in my book it is still gross?! Hth

Why does it matter what they're called?

You made a generalisation about gay men.
