To think Phillip schofield scandal is homophobia?

ivfregret · 01/06/2023 00:00

Have I missed something in that the guy Philip had the affair with was not a minor?

He was a minor when they met, as was Cheryl Cole and Liam Payne for example and no one has anything bad to say about that relationship.

I'm not sticking up for Philip and really dislike him, and also think even if the runner was above the age of consent is most definitely questionable behaviour but I can't help think of it was a heterosexual affair it would not be treated in the same way?

My 28 year old niece who is part of the gay community herself does not agree with you OP/. She said it was grooming.

Does her sexuality make her opinion more valid?

Because back when homophobia was rife there were studies done about this and embarrassingly for them, gay men had levels as similar to that as women. Funnily enough, being attracted to men is quite different to being attracted to children. Most women will agree.

Similar levels of what?

The claim wasn't "paedophiles are less likely to be gay men". It would indeed be staggering if that were not true.

The claim queried was "gay men are less likely to be paedophiles" which is a very specific claim which might or might not be true and needs evidence.

What’s the difference exactly? Because those are saying the same thing

This is I quote not my opnion ( only gay men are peadophiles) as I know second hand it’s not true. I know people who have aired the view on more than occasion that gay men tend to pray on underage on boys more than any other demographic

prey on underage boys more than woman do? If you mean prey on underage boys more than men prey on underage girls then you are wrong by a staggering amount.

HoldOnMiGenna · 05/06/2023 17:32

It takes a certain amount of underthinking to believe that Philip Schofield has been flopped from ITV because he had a completely above board five times assignations with MM and with MM being his very first lover!
Also, the bullshit that is too popular amongst too many low key homophobic straight women on Mumsnet with their fantasy that visitation to a woman's vagina renders a self declared gay man , who with his wife has NO sexual chemistry, makes him bisexual.
The world is full of children whose gay fathers died of AIDS. The world is full of graves of women who contracted AIDS from their husbands who they didn't know we're gay. It is known that some men who are VERY performatively straight, with a bag of children for a bag of women can be found , legs behind their ears of a night, being their true selves which is most certainly not bisexual.
That some messy Gold Star gay man told a naive, homophobic woman that a real gay man wouldn't be able to fuck a woman says more about him and his superiority complex pertaining to his fellow gay brethren, amongst whom he most certainly would have entertained more than a few of non Golf Star status as sexual loneliness would be his only other option.

I have noticed for years the obvious undercurrent of homophobia from so called educated women on Mumsnet , quick to deny or minimise gayness as something other, convinced that noting a man is gay is an act of homophobia more than their speed to erase male same sex monosexuality if they can, with a straight face ( pardon the pun).

Pity Pussy by deception cannot erase a gay man into being a bisexual man. Ask a woman who has found her life to be a lie as her ex came out as gay, not bisexual and she has a constant head ache from all the pennies, dropping when she chooses to honestly look back on their union.

Philip Schofield was assumed to be gay by many who had no idea he was married and for that reason alone, his dramatic " coming out" alerted them to something " not being clean in the milk". I'm of that crowd. He looked like a typical whip thin , boyish in a dishonest light, needs to cut back on the sniff gay man of a certain age and lifestyle to me.

I have never entertained him being lusted after by a female truly in touch with her sexuality past the age of 16 , last century....much less him being with a woman. He doesn't project that type of virility like a lot of gay men do if one doesn't know them and even then!
But I don't live under a rock.

I will say this, though. Philip Schofield is no " mid range" narcissist; there actually seems to be a bit of foresight and Plan Bism to his machinations as opposed to the usual sole ability of the average narc to long term reel in only the grasping, the weak, the vain,, the crowd pleaser who is quick to " sheeple!" those who don't want to be a part of their shenanigans and those with similarly shaky identies masked with "confident paranoia" and Comparison Syndrome.

a higher proportion of heterosexual men abuse children than homosexual men, even when you look at the proportions of them being a smaller population.

morcoccansunset · 05/06/2023 17:33

As far as I'm aware Cheryl and Liam went their separate ways before Dating. Cheryl wasn't in a position of power when they dated so I don't think it can be called grooming. It's a bit icky but I don't think it's the same and sexes have nothing to do with it.

WakeMeUpWhenGoodOmensIsBack · 05/06/2023 17:35

My starting assumption would be that gay men and straight men are equally likely to be paedophiles. If there's good evidence that actually straight men are much more likely than gay men to be paedophiles then I'm happy to believe that once I've given the source a quick once over - it's just not a claim I'd seen before (because I don't take a particular interest I the subject). I'm already aware that there's no evidence for the reverse claim.

Obviously I'd expect the vast majority of paedophiles to be heterosexual, but that's a completely different claim, which is so obvious that it doesn't need evidence.

Unintentionallycausingoffence · 05/06/2023 17:38

I must emphasise this is the opnions of others I know and not me. Although this is this is for them to give their reasons for their opinion not me.

What I was quoting is how the two statements are different, as claimed by another poster.

“paedophiles are less likely to be gay men".

"gay men are less likely to be paedophiles"

JenniferBooth · 05/06/2023 18:27

@LifeIsPainHighness Dont be so bloody self righteous. I mentioned it because the thread has homophobia in the title and she is the only member of the gay community that i have spoken to since this all blew up and she (and i) dont think that Peter Tatchell and Rupert Everett speak for the whole of the gay community.

I suspect that many people from both the gay and straight communities would be heaving with disgust if this was 51 year old Therese Coffey with a young lad.

I feel like you’re making some really insightful points in this post, but so much of it (not all) is written in a way that clearly makes total sense in your head, but isn’t written well for the reader coming to your thoughts cold.

I couldn’t make head nor tail of it.

Popcorn121 · 05/06/2023 20:38

A lot of people are saying that it was obvious that Schofield was gay. It’s not that simple, sometimes camp or men that seem gay aren’t. So unless they come out you can’t assume.

A good example is the comedian Tom Lucy, most people think that he is gay but he says that he isn’t.

the whole thing screams homophobia. He had an affair with a younger colleague and lied about it. Big deal

I think you are spectacularly missing the point as to why people are up in arms. Are you doing it intentionally?

Yet no one had a problem with him coming out as gay 🤔

The only criticism then was that he had used his wife as a cover up.

Thanks for coming onto a thread with nearly 800 posts, clearly not bothering your arse to ready any of them, and dropping that useless non-contribution for our consideration.

Member869894 · 05/06/2023 22:20

Quite like it no I don't because I would have apologised to my wife and children, not my work colleagues

Quitelikeit · 05/06/2023 22:22

He did apologise to them actually so you do indeed appear to be quite like minded

There’s worse things in life though right?
