Why does DH suddenly smell?

PinkMonday · 31/05/2023 08:32

Help! My DH stinks but I don't know why and I'm desperate for suggestions. He has a bath every evening, cleans his teeth, flosses, clean clothes but he still smells. I change our bedsheets once a week.

It's a really weird smell. Kind of like baby drool. I'm not pregnant so it's not like I am suddenly sensitive to smells.

It's only started happening in the last 2 weeks I think. He said he can even smell it on himself too.

I even started washing his back to make sure he's 100% clean but I notice by the morning he stinks again!

Could be Ketones?

Fluffmum · 01/06/2023 21:58

He needs blood tests.

Weird thing is he has just had a health mot type thing and he's as healthy as can be!

Maybe it’s something going on with you. Might be an idea for you to get a health MOT

Bignanny30 · 01/06/2023 22:23

Fungal infections can give off a sweet sort of smell too.

JudgeRudy · 01/06/2023 22:25

Is it possible you have/have had Covid. This affects your sense of smell? I guess it's a sensitive subject but does anyone notice the smell or just you? Do you have someone you're close enough to essentially call round and say "Does my husband smell?"

Is there an equivalent smell that middle aged women get? Or do we just get a dry fanny and sick of everyone’s shit?

Or maybe everyone else starts smelling because we can’t be bothered to clean everything up for everyone anymore 🤣

There is a gross smell I have noticed on some older women. No idea what it is but it's that pungent it makes me feel sick.

Just as dogs can smell when a person has a medical problem, so can some humans. He needs a full blood test from GP. Yes seriously as soon as poss

Tooyoungtofeelthisold · 01/06/2023 22:50

Sorry I haven't RTFT, the baby's breath smell...possibly a UTI?
Some men get them without any symptoms.
My DH gets a bit of a musty smell, I tend to pick up on it before he does and he often has a UTI.

AliceMcK · 01/06/2023 23:15

I can smell if my DH is unwell or stressed, his body odour completely changes.

Might be daft but have you tried baby powder? My DF strangely never ever smelt and never wore deodorant in his life, despite a physical job. He only ever used baby powder. I use it too for the peri-menopause sweat and smell I get. It’s great.

Dead 🤣🤣🤣

Freckles978 · 01/06/2023 23:56

Are you pregnant? Or going through a menopause?

MyAnacondaMight · 02/06/2023 01:00

Persimmon soap is said to be effective at helping neutralise that “old person” smell. Worth a try.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 02/06/2023 01:27

Is dove the elmlea of the soap world?

ChellyT · 02/06/2023 01:46

Could it be bacteria? I know he is very hygienic but could he trim his under arm and swab a little of 'The Ordinary's, Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution' under his arms and on the back of his neck (literally anywhere you/he might think the smell is coming from) This product is amazing at killing bacteria (which is what gives us BO)

EconomyClassRockstar · 02/06/2023 02:46

Does he smell ok naked?! Because if so, it's probably the laundry

Seabreeze18 · 02/06/2023 06:29

Nothing has been mentioned about gut health but this is another thing to check? Good probiotics and prebiotics are useful for our system and easy to add in with a quick trip to the shops.
Definitely worth a chat to a gp about other things though.

interesting about the dove soap!! I never knew it wasn’t soap so will be googling this! we love dove in our house.

greenacrylicpaint · 02/06/2023 06:35

I have a colleague with kidney issues.
with a flare up they stink smell like piss mixed with bo sweat. only faint because they wash well, but very unpleasant if close.

randommum82 · 02/06/2023 06:59

When clothes and bedding sit too long in a washing machine they give off a smell when they become damp again. Same applies when the weather is damp and clothes don't dry fast enough. Ive showered and towelled myself off with a clean towel that sat a few hours in the machine before being hung and immediately stank! The dry fabrics don't smell, getting them damp reactivates the funky smell.

Era · 02/06/2023 07:09

These smells aren’t clothing etc. they are smells emitted by the body that can then be detected.

Sunnysideup999 · 02/06/2023 07:14

Addisons ?

I've heard tea tree oil is good to prevent smells- people use it on their armpits, under boobs and where they generally smell/sweat. While he waits for tests and results it could be worth a go- you just wipe it on the areas. Also might help rule out where it's coming from. If it makes the smells go, make sure he still gets tests
