Buying on vinted

Keep wasting money. Buy something that is sold as very good condition and on receipt item is bobbled/ very well used/ faded. Also looks nothing like the picture. Going through a financially hard time and needed loads of new clothes so thought would be a good idea but wasted so much about half of items only fit for bin or charity shop. Plus by the time you add on all other fees not that cheap. AIBU to give up on vinted for good? Or have others had more luck on there.

95% of the stuff I got was AMAZING. I mean it, my wardrobe massively icnreased and only a few bits didnt work out, mostly because they were too small/I am too big for them.

The only other complains is that sometimes you can tell clothes came from storage as they have that slightly musty smell (most are washed, but obvs the ones with tags have not been), but nothing I am bothered as I just pop them into washing machine myself after trying. I do buy from brands I know will be quality and hunt for bargains. Not sure I saved money as I bought a lot, ehehe.

If items are not as described, you can flag it up by the way! Why pay if they have been damaged?

TolkiensFallow · 29/05/2023 18:38

I’ve had lots of good things on Vinted but study the pictures very closely and also I do look for a reasonable effort in the description. I find people are much lazier with descriptions on Vinted.

thelinkisdead · 29/05/2023 18:41

I love Vinted but I’m very careful. I only buy ‘new with tags’ or ‘new without tags’ on more expensive items (designer), or ‘very good’ on cheaper items. I’m careful with photos: decent quality and a variety as opposed to one or two blurry ones. I also think material plays a part: cheap jumpers washed a few times are never going to be in good condition so I stay away, whereas cashmere or silk generally ages better

Ilovemycatalot · 29/05/2023 18:41

Most pictures are pretty bad on there tbh your right sellers seem to be lazy on there most don’t even iron the item before selling it!

See I don’t mind creased as long as it’s clean and in good condition. I can iron the item myself!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/05/2023 18:43

I've given up, I am so sick of having to ask for better pics and measurements of items. Everyone has fantastic phone camera these days, there's no excuse for poor photos and it pisses me right off.

OKwhatsNext · 29/05/2023 18:44

I've had some lovely bits from vinted. Some dodgy stuff too though. Personally I have also found complaining fruitless as they just request a refund which is at your own expense so it's often not worth the cost. It's such a pain when something is not as described

primoseyellow · 29/05/2023 18:46

I sell a few things on Vinted, mainly new with tags or worn literally once or twice.
Im also selling a worn once Kooples jacket for £20.00, New with tags Katie Loxton pouch £9.00, Sweaty Betty items 10.00.

I would narrow your search to new with tags items, ask for extra photos too.

Ive got great stuff on there.

SunnySaturdayMorning · 29/05/2023 18:48

Just use Shein. Cheap and pretty nice stuff 😊

SaturdayGiraffe · 29/05/2023 18:49

Hope you feedback accordingly.

roarfeckingroarr · 29/05/2023 18:49

I love Vinted. I've bought and sold loads. Not yet had a bad experience.

biedrona · 29/05/2023 18:49

I got some really amazing finds there - Everlane shirt for 15, Baukjen cashmere/wool cardigan (not worn), Bikind sweatshirts that normally retail for 60 or so pounds. Some failed purchases due to sizing issues but mostly managed to sell on.
If the picture is blurry - don't buy, move on.

Ilovemycatalot · 29/05/2023 18:52

Going to filter to new with/without tags although probably will be a much smaller pool of items! Yes I have had some nice stuff of shien but materials are often bad quality from there but it is cheap.

WeightoftheWorld · 29/05/2023 18:53

I've recently joined and sold a few things so far - a dress that I'd worn and washed twice so was perfect condition, a bra I'd worn very briefly for a few hours and washed once so again perfect condition, and a pair of shoes that had been worn plenty of times but were not well-worn and although not in perfect condition, were in good condition with very tiny signs of wear. The latter I made sure to give a thorough clean and lint roll before I posted it to the seller.

My phone camera isn't great so my photos aren't amazing but I'm very careful to give very detailed, clear descriptions and am completely honest. I've just made my first purchase which is a new with tags pair of shoes. I would be wary to buy things that aren't with tags tbqh though because I agree I've seen loads of things that look suspect to me. So many people claim e.g. a pair of shoes was only worn once when they look far more worn and there's no photographs of the soles, for example.

marshmallowsforbreakfast · 29/05/2023 18:58

I don't buy anything they haven't bothered to iron, that's my rule of thumb. I've had a few misses but mostly very good bits and bobs.

crabbyoldappletree · 29/05/2023 18:59

If photos are poor / blurry on any selling platform I don't bother.
Some sellers seem really deluded in their item descriptions I often see an item claiming to be new, but it's clearly been worm, which is why you need decent photos..

londonmummy1966 · 29/05/2023 19:08

I'll only buy if there are plenty of good pictures but I've had really good experiences. However I do find that the buyer protection is better on ebay.

susiella · 29/05/2023 19:22

I'm sick of buying stuff described as silk, when it arrives it's polyester or rayon. Apart from that I buy loads and other than the misdescribed fabric I love it

drpet49 · 29/05/2023 19:24

Too many scammer sellers on there now. They deliberately mislead knowing that most people won’t bother to return as the buyer has to pay postage.

Amby1 · 29/05/2023 19:25

I've noticed this a lot too, I think people are really dishonest on Vinted and describe things as being in very good condition when they are in good or even poor condition at best. Thankfully you can often see bobbling/fading in the photos and as others have said if the photo is blurry move on. Although, the last item I purchased looked fine in the photos but was stained in multiple places despite being described as being very good condition. It was rather frustrating as the seller claimed she hadn't noticed...

HermioneHerman · 29/05/2023 19:44

I sell a few bits a week on Vinted generally but have pretty much given up buying. Not had bad experiences with quality etc as I'm very selective on what I buy (good variety of clear photos, decent description, new/as new condition and well -rated sellers). But I find the customer service absolutely appalling, they just take their cut and wash their hands of any problems. There is no protection at all if items are not as described or if there are issues such as I had with a free shipping offer not being applied. The so called buyer protection fee is a nonsense, clearly just a commission and I've decided they won't be getting any more of my money in that regard. I tend to use charity shops more often now, less choice of course but at least you see the condition, no postage/fees and don't feel ripped off.

It's cheap because they use Chinese sweatshops...

OneFlipflopleft · 29/05/2023 21:28

I also only used to shop for new-with-tags or new-without-tags. Bought new wheely's for my daughter. The ad had only 2 pics, which looked good. And at that point I trusted Vinteds customer service would assist if needed.
Could not believe my eyes when I unpacked them. Run down, worn out, lots of hair stuck in the wheels, peeling of the fabric, black spots on the insoles of dirty feet, cracks in the wheels. And the seller just did not agree with me, stuck with them being hardly used (which ofcourse is not new).
I made pictures of all the cracks, hairs, and tears, sent them Vinted too. Which is not easy, as their customer service is near unreachable. They would not help me, as they said they couldnt, had to come to a solution with the seller. After that I gave up on buying there. Even though I also had very good experiences, brand new doc martens a a great deal. But the bad experiences outwayed, mainly because you pay Vinted a fee for buyers insurance, which you do not get if needed. It just did not feel right, their policy. It is not for me I guess.

HH171222 · 29/05/2023 21:33

I have bought about 97% of my babies clothes from there brand new/new without tags and alot of nursing friendly clothes. I have only ever had one issue where something had holes in even though it was brand new in the pack but when I mentioned it to the seller she refunded me regardless. Never had any other issues and if the item isn't described you flag it up with seller or vinted and get your money back. Always look at the pictures carefully and the reviews of the seller if they have any.

SamW98 · 29/05/2023 22:42

I buy a lot of stuff on Vinted and like others have said I’m very fussy, narrow down my searches and only buy new with/without tags or items that have been worn once and still look immaculate.
I don’t have any problem raising an issue if I receive something not exactly as described - example a dress I recently received with noticeable stains - that went straight back!

I love Nevet Fully Dressed but I’m not paying £100 fir a dress I’ll only wear once. So I buy on Vinted for around £20-25, wear it once myself and resell for pretty much what I paid for it.
