Mizzy (TikTok "prankster")

TheTERFnextDoor · 29/05/2023 15:01

Are we allowed to talk about this young man's videos and the wider impact he may have on youth culture?

(Not sure as it involves ongoing legal issues, I believe?)

I don't live in London, nor do I watch TikTok, so the behavior of this young man, and the police's lack of action towards him, has really shocked me! How was he only arrested and fined AFTER becoming infamous online? How is asking a lone young woman if she "wants to die" seen as funny?

Given his notoriety, I'm worried he will lead to a load of copycats now Angry

I'm going to pose the following question as a tool for debate, NOT because I agree with what Mizzy's doing.

How is what he's doing any different from Beadle's About?

I don't recall beadle going up to young people late at night in isolated places and asking them threateningly if they wanted to die?

I might be wrong of course...

Vitriolinsanity · 30/05/2023 19:59

@potniatheron in many ways it's not, I'd have also punched Beadle for his totes hilaire pranks. There is a long TV tradition for this sort of thing, which admittedly does seem to appeal to viewers.

As I recall though, Beadle's antics weren't scary, spiteful and possibly racist. He was also pretty well known so I suppose that calmed the victim (!). Also they wouldn't have been uploaded to TV without permission.

NeedWineNow · 30/05/2023 20:06

I'd knock the little scumbag out of he tried anything on me or mine.

And I don't care how that makes me look or sound. I am sick and tired of little idiots like this getting away with stuff and thinking that they're the Big I Am.

Xenia · 30/05/2023 20:13

I never liked programmes like B's about but they were planned in advance with family knowing etc as if you go for that kind of thing and the person has a heart condition the shock can kill someone and that falls on the criminal/prankster - called the "egg shell skull rule" (which criminal law students learn about).

He even took the hat off a jewish man. He doesn't seem to care so he needs to be made to care by being stopped, prosecuted and locked up.

Absence of a group of young men adding to the intimation? Physical assault? Unwanted touching with a context of possible sexual assault or a homophobic attack? Theft? Forcing entry/home invasion?

I used to watch it as a kid - nobody was rushed in their own home by a group of teenagers. And nobody started fucking around with a train's controls in a context of public transport being specifically targeted in recent years for acts of terrorism (if nothing else because a guard and/or conductor would have been onboard to chin him the moment he brought out a T-key).

People were sometimes frustrated or upset by some of those shows, but nobody was fearful for their personal safety.

There are so many kids in school with his attitude. You can't touch me, it's all just bants innit. Then they give it alright Karen don't be racist when called out.

Is this only a particular demographic then?

Actually the school is mainly black. I only brought race up because 'Mizzy' himself does.

It's the entitled teen attitude in general not a race thing per say.

NotTerfNorCis · 30/05/2023 21:50

Re Beadle's About. I used to find it incredibly uncomfortable. There was one 'prank' where they got a woman's furniture and put it on her front lawn. She was crying. But the difference was that it was all arranged with her family or friends. She had to give permission for it to be on TV, and she would have been paid.

There were funnier pranks in the eighties. I remember the job interview one. This middle-aged man apparently running a serious interview, but his toupee kept wiggling about. The interviewees were trying to keep from laughing. That's a proper harmless practical joke (apart from it wasting the interviewee's time of course.)

NotTerfNorCis · 30/05/2023 22:04

Apols for double post but... further point is that the humiliation of having your fear and distress put online for people to laugh at, plus footage of yourself and potentially your home that might lead to you being targetted again... that's almost worse than the original 'prank'.

TheHandmaiden · 30/05/2023 22:07

Jeremy Beadle was an arse then. It's the same thing about social pressure. Beadle's About was a shitty programme.

Toomanylosthours · 30/05/2023 22:24

Out on bail with trial set July.
Let's hope he stops terrorising folk now.

MooFroo · 30/05/2023 22:27

It’s awful!not seen any of his videos but the media around him highlight he needs to be locked away and the key thrown away!!
how scary and intimidating

AnarchoTyrannosaurus · 30/05/2023 22:28

He could do better than that. I hope he finds his way soon and uses his influence to do good rather than harm.

My thoughts are with his victims. I hope they can get over the fear and trauma he has put them them through.

TheTERFnextDoor · 30/05/2023 22:40

Well, if Missy's clever, he'll apologize to all his victims and make donations to charities of their choice.

He should then use his new media contacts to ask for entry-level jobs. He clearly wants to work in this field, so he should try and get a job in it and work his way up. It will show humility and progress, traits the judge will be impressed by.

I don't know about that! No judge is going to be super impressed he's back in court so quick. Or his appearance on Piers Morgan. Or the videos either.

What a bizarre (and if I’m honest, quite sickening) post.

“Hey lads, want a career in the media? Why not terrorise some women, families with young kids and old men. You might make some “media contacts” if you cause enough distress to other people who are just minding their own business.”

Xenia · 31/05/2023 12:02

It reminds me a bit of that UK criminal who boasted about his wealth and women on Instagram. I think he was caught abroad. It is the monetisation of notoriety and law breaking which I suppose goes hand in hand with social media and freedom to publish although publishing people's details without their consent can break data protection law so the law is not necessarily a free for all for everyone to video everyone else and upload it.

FoodCentre · 31/05/2023 12:22

@GoldFishFingers come on, you know what op means.

She didn't just say capitalise on this and use connections. She meant to make things right by apologising and doing something good. And actually taking something away from this and being a functional human being from this point onwards

However, I don't think he deserves to work his way up anywhere though. He needs to start with the most basic job and prove himself over a long time.

Feefee10 · 31/05/2023 12:22

I'm going to sound so old and I hate it but discipline and respect has gone down the toilet in the UK. People aren't afraid of the consequences of antisocial behaviour . DH was talking about moving to Singapore where his maternal family is based , I never wanted to move to such a strict boring place but I'm seeing the appeal. Mizzy would be caned as a legal punishment for the behaviour it has one of the lowest crime rates in the world, because theres consequences if your children are badly behaved it's shameful so they correct it. This pandering to the youth and soft justice doesn't work.

I hope they do too. The punishment was nowhere near enough for the crimes he committed.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 31/05/2023 12:46

Absolutely. The woman with the little dog was terrified. If anyone tried to pull that on me by pretending to steal my dogs I would be beside myself.

And the other 'pranks'.

Twat.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 31/05/2023 12:47

And he's out on bail. Again. Because that worked so well last time.

He's not going to stop though is he. Why the fuck is he put on bail 😡

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 31/05/2023 13:10

Not enough room in the prisons or he’s not reached the threshold for custody.

TheTERFnextDoor · 31/05/2023 13:59

@GoldFishFingers

If it was up to me, Mizzy would be in prison for at least 6 months. It's the least he deserves. However, as Mizzy himself acknowledges, the Uk legal system is a joke.

Therefore, him reflecting on his poor behavior and trying to make amends is the best possible outcome in the UK context. He could maybe even use his new media contacts to make a documentary about him apologizing yo his victims and progressing as a man. Given that Mizzy is a father himself, this would set a good example to his child, as well as his peers.
