not to share my table at outdoor cafe

Went to my favourite cafe with my lovely dog for a relaxing Sunday morning brunch fry up.
All the tables were occupied, so we stood feeling a bit self-conscious waiting for about 20 minutes for a table to become free. In the meantime, a kind couple did ask if I wanted to share their table, but I didn’t want to disturb their relaxing morning so I said thanks for the offer but it’s ok.
So, eventually a table became free so I left my bag there to reserve it and went inside the cafe with the hound to order. When I was queuing up to order a woman asked if I had finished with my table so I said no I have just arrived. She then said are there many of you (obviously not) or can we share your table?
I said Sorry I have been waiting for a table and I would rather have it to myself.

So was the damn brexit referendum (a democratic vote!) and look where that got us!! I would have thought that would be evidence enough that a 'majority' outcome is not always the right or best one? 😱

The outcome here simply indicates that 55% of people voting surprisingly don't seem to know the difference between a TABLE and a PICNIC BENCH and obviously aren't aware of the generally accepted etiquette and protocols expected around both of those forms of seating?! 😳

A person expecting to be allowed who thinks it's acceptable to solely occupy a 6 seater picnic bench while they leisurely eat their lunch in peaceful uninterrupted solitude, while others perhaps need a seat, is simply an entitled and blinkered, self centred person of which there sadly seems to be many of these days? 🙄😪

100% this. ^ There's also the fact that many people don't realise they could have changed their vote.. Not to mention - the drip feed the OP fed along the way. AND the fact that many people cannot vote coz they are on the app. I have mentioned this several times but the OP and her little minion seems to be ignoring this salient piece of information.

But a pic of offending benches would be good. I suspect they’re like all the other bus sized benches we see outside cafes and pubs.

This couple, who CLEARLY knew the protocol around PICNIC TABLES/BENCHES were letting you know that it was fine for you to sit down at the bench they were occupying and fully expected to have to share if necessary, but oh no! Although you state your reason for not joining them was because you 'didn’t want to disturb THEIR relaxing morning' doesn't quite ring true does it?! 🤔

So...yet another person also seemed aware that it was perfectly acceptable and normal to share a 6 seater PICNIC BENCH but was just being polite in asking you if this was OK before sitting down!! I guarantee that she and her companions were NOT impressed by both your anti social behaviour and lack of common sense!! It's neither acceptable, rational or logical to deprive others of a seat just because, based on the fact that you had unbelievably waited 20 mins, meant that you then thought you were entitled to sit alone, oh sorry, I forgot about the dog!!! SERIOUSLY?! 😳😱

Democracy is most definitely not what it's cracked up to be and, as in the referendum, the vote here had gone the other way you would be shouting loudly about how unfair it was for any reason you could think of!! 🙄

She just cannot accept that this is most definitely not a 'right or wrong' issue and is clearly just an indication that someone who feels justified, as she obviously does, to behave in such an entitled, self centred, anti social, churlish and graceless way has absolutely no awareness of just how awful this looks from the perspective of those who dare to challenge her and whom she chooses childishly to call names!! 😡
