Honestly whats this obsession with them?
Couldn't give a toss. Why are people so invested in two people who host a breakfast programme?

Just people on this planet, like we all are.

Toomuchlaundry, quite, it's amazing how many high brow people feel the need to comment on such low brow stuff

They are being used to bury more serious news like the fact the NHS shared patient data with Facebook. They also used to use Meghan Markle in this way before she got sick of it and fucked off. Distraction without caring if it destroys lives.

What a load of rubbish. They’re not being used to bury other news. Where’s your source for sharing patent data with Facebook?

Grooming and abuse of power, suppression of knowledge, being complicit, adults not speaking out - this destroys lives.

There's a tracking tool some trusts used on their websites to collate views on recruitment campaigns etc to try and target recruitment ads and whatever else- it sends the data to meta (who own facebook). There's been rumblings that this tool is also tracking views on NHS advice pages and can ultimately send these views to meta who could align this with someone's fb account. There have been law suits in the US about the same as people were unaware the tracker could do this, and meta has a policy against processing health related data so the reality is that they didn't know (most trusts who used it have pulled it), sensitive data is being filtered out anyway, and ICO are looking into and investigating it. I don't think they'd be outing a groomer and fundamental safeguarding failings at ITV to bury something most people won't be bothered about.

LizzieSiddal · 29/05/2023 08:56

@AngelasAirpods Where’s your source for sharing patent data with Facebook?

It was in The Sunday Times yesterday. There have been very serious breaches.

mondaytosunday · 29/05/2023 08:57

Never watched them so no I don't really care. Reading in the news that the show had a toxic culture for years though, relating to the editor and a formal complaint had been made years ago by someone no longer on the show.
You never know what is going on behind the scenes!

Saniflo · 29/05/2023 09:00

I have a job and a life so I don't watch this total tripe. But, if he was a paedophile and ITV have been covering it up then this is obviously something to be taken seriously.

snowmanshoes · 29/05/2023 09:04

All the accusations and claims need to be investigated. You don’t just ask the person the accusation is about if it’s true - you thoroughly investigate.
Also Holly can’t just declare ‘I’m staying’ and we all say - oh that’s okay then?!?!

At the same time - can’t see anything changing with regards to cover ups anytime soon unfortunately…..

Sigmama · 29/05/2023 09:11

Saniflo, I don't watch daytime TV either but I don't understand this need to demean it so much, it's just another form of entertainment, which im guessing older people watch? So much snobbery on here, - what do you watch that is so great? Sports?, documentaries? drama? its all entertainment

Micksdottir · 29/05/2023 10:41

All these MNers on here falling over themselves to say they have never and will never watch daytime TV “because it’s trashy”. So if they haven’t seen it, how can they judge it? Just asking’.

SunnyEgg · 29/05/2023 10:43

What a load of rubbish. They’re not being used to bury other news.

Agree. This stuff stays in the media because people want to talk about it. Same with MM etc

The threads on here show that alone

Sigmama · 29/05/2023 10:44

Hasn't it won the national TV awards a few times, that's voted by the public, so some one likes it, just not the high brow full time workers!

polkadotdalmation · 29/05/2023 10:46

Never particularly liked either of them

ODFODeary · 29/05/2023 11:16

PintoMilk · 29/05/2023 08:07

I work full time and have never had time (or inclination) to watch trashy daytime TV.

I'm sure nobody cares

JaneJeffer · 29/05/2023 11:42

I was inspired by seeing all the posts about them
<bangs head off table>

tiggerkid · 29/05/2023 11:48

Didn't even bother finding out why they are all over the place at the moment. Also not interested.

ShivRoysBlender · 29/05/2023 12:36

I haven't seen This Morning since it was Richard and Judy and the bloke leaping about the big weather map, but I care since it directly related to my job, and I care passionately about safeguarding. We live in a society where adult men being sexually predatory towards teenagers is so normalised and it shouldn't be. Even if you don't work in safeguarding or work in TV, you should care, because we all live in a society where unhealthy attitudes towards sex and power thrive and are accepted, and we're all raising our children, those of us who have children, in that society.

I don't want my children or anyone's children growing up in a world where middle aged men fucking 16yr olds is dismissed as "what's the problem it's legal", or where teenagers are expected to have sex with their boss or tolerate harassment to get a job or a promotion.

However, Endlesssummer2022 is completely right, the right wing tabloid press absolutely and openly collude with the government to kill or de-emphasise certain political stories, and deflecting attention onto celebs is one tactic they use to do this. Anyone who isn't aware of this can't possibly work in the media or have much knowledge of how the media works.

Meghan was absolutely used that way. The day the court found that Matt Hancock had acted unlawfully over Covid contracts, the right wing press all published headlines about something Meghan had done months earlier where clearly a reason had been engineered to drag it all up again on that specific day.

With Schofield it's a bit more complex. The NHS scandal is terrible but it's not the kind of story the tabloids would really cover even without a celeb scandal to focus on, and the grooming/abuse of power aspect does make this more than just a celeb scandal.

PurpleAirGuitar · 29/05/2023 18:19

I've honestly never watched a programme with them in it (I don't watch much TV in general, don't disapprove, just tend not to). I vaguely know what's going on but don't really want to know any more about it than I do already.

I do find it mildly interesting though that people are spelling his name Philip when it's actually Phillip, whereas Prince Philip, who really was a Philip (at least when living in the UK), was spelt as Phillip more often than not.

LakieLady · 29/05/2023 18:25

She's vapid, he's revoltingly smug, they're both talentless and I don't give a shit about either of them.

The apparent safeguarding failure is a concern though.

Micksdottir · 29/05/2023 19:06

ShivRoysBlender's post shows an extraordinary naivety with the idea that the "right wing press" colludes to concoct stories to detract from news embarrassing to the government. It is laughably absurd to believe that any newspapers collude with each other over anything - they are too competitive, too jealously introspective to agree on anything between themselves. If they have a similar stance on a subject, it's because that is how each individual editor has decided on his or her newspaper's own approach. Of course they are going to coincide in many cases. But in many others they don't. And it's just plain bonkers to say that the Philip Schofield story is being projected so as to divert attention away from various government disasters. As far as I can see - and as part of my job I read nine national newspapers every day and stay logged on to all the main media sites - the government is getting a kicking 24/7. The ferocity of said kicking depends on the individual newspaper, but far from Phil and Holly's troubles providing a stage managed diversion, they are actually drawing attention to many other stories that would otherwise remain unread because of the very much increased newspaper sales and website clicks that are drawing more people in at the moment. And as for the much earlier pp who claimed that the media projected Schofield's troubles to keep a government scandal out of the papers - ie the revelation that the NHS has been sharing patient data with social media - that's just another loony conspiracy theory. That story has appeared in seven out of the nine newspapers I read, and all the websites.

I think because the accusations of grooming and the sacking and silencing of MM have been common knowledge for so long and finally the media can talk about it.

I've still no idea what's changed and why the media have suddenly started reporting it, but I'm glad they have.

It's not just related to this morning, he presents other programmes too - I bet "we buy any car" are glad the got rid of him and have genius marketing which means their adverts are sooooo annoying all memories of PS are forgotten 😁

Bunniesandcreamteas · 29/05/2023 19:31

Lol, even my eighty year old dad is reading the news on this, I don’t get the fascination either

Bunniesandcreamteas · 29/05/2023 19:32

Feel really sorry for the boy involved though

I've worked in media for 20 years.

Go on then, which newspaper do you work for?

People who have never set foot in a newsroom in their lives really shouldn't be so credulous in believing everything they read online. Silly girl.

IForgotOurSong · 29/05/2023 23:35

I can see why people are bothered. Not just the serious nature of the allegations, but also I think there is something in the betrayal of the This Morning audience, many of them elderly and/or socially isolated, who let these people into their living rooms every day for a bit of light hearted relief. It’s awful to find out all this was going on behind the scenes, I can’t see people wanting to watch it now, I expect they’ll need to replace it with something else, and bring back Dr Ranj.

If there’s appetite to discuss it’ll sell. Same as any story, government or not.
