I hate high-waisted trousers! AIBU?

Jourdain11 · 27/05/2023 20:54

I really, really dislike the feeling of high-waisted trousers round my middle. It just feels so constrictive and uncomfortable. I much prefer trousers that sit more on your hips or mid-rise. Since it seems like you can only buy high-waisted trousers, I guess I must be weird and the only person in the world who feels like this!

AIBU to hate high-waisted trousers and where, oh where, can I buy a pair that aren't high-waisted?

I like high-waisted in some circumstances, like skinny jeans, so they don’t shimmy down like tights. However I hate Mom jeans, as they leave a massive “expanse” of bum, and are flattering on nobody!

But, yeah I like trousers, chinos etc to sit just over the hips. That said a high waist in leggings is essential to combat muffin-top, to get a pully-inny effect. Wore low-waisters back in the Noughties, of course…

Oysterbabe · 27/05/2023 21:01

I'm an apple and they're they only style I can wear, anything else falls down constantly.

Jourdain11 · 27/05/2023 21:11

I agree about the Mom jeans - they don't really flatter anyone's figure!

I'm the same OP, I'd love a pair of an inch under the belly button or hipster jeans again! I find the high waisted just push my belly up higher under my boobs! And make my arse look really long. Would love recommendations also for low to mid rise jeans

Jourdain11 · 27/05/2023 21:16

Any recommendations are super welcome.

They feel like having a boa constrictor round your middle or a rope round your internal organs, squishing everything together. And no, I don't wear trousers which are several sizes too small or anything!

I find that as ive gained weight, a lot of trouser styles don't fit well as proper dress sizes are for bigger people, not fatter shapes. Im a classic sugar addict child of the 80s, i don't have a big frame, ive got a layer of fat. This means that for trousers to sit securely, they have to fit digging slightly uncomfortably into my tummy fat. When i was leaner, this wasmt the case & all trousers styles were comfortable. Elasticated trousers are the only thing thats more comfortable with a fatter stomach like mine.

smooththecat · 27/05/2023 21:18

If you’re not thin you can get overspill, which is even more uncomfortable. I dunno, I can’t see my bum expanse so I don’t care. For some reason, bum expanse can look worse on the slender, don’t know why, could be combination with flat bum. Flat or tapered bum are more unattractive than long bum.

Jourdain11 · 27/05/2023 21:22

I think Mom jeans make everyone look long-bunmed, no matter what shape or size the bum is.

It may just be that I'm a child of the noughties and did my formative years with jeans hanging off my hips, and have never quite managed to move past it.

Grapewrath · 27/05/2023 21:25

I have a bigger bum than waist so I find they gape a lot. I do find them more flattering though

Me too, anything low and I have builders bum

Opaque11 · 27/05/2023 21:28

I had a C-section 6 months ago and a 'pouch'. It's absolutely impossible to find any pants that fits.

Jourdain11 · 27/05/2023 21:28

Leaving style considerations completely to one side... I just can't stand the feeling of them round my middle and poking into my ribs. I think I may just be weird!!

It's a stealth boast, innit 😂 This is why the better-upholstered among us prefer legwear that covers our tummies, OP. Haven't been able to hang anything off my hips for quite some time!

I'm a triangle with non existent hips so I'm just delighted that they're in at the moment - I suffered years of never being able to find anything due to all the low rise jeans and trousers around a few years ago.

It's not a stealth boast at all 🤔

And what's with all tops being cropped?! High waisted and cropped- hate the trend

AppleandSpice · 27/05/2023 21:39

I’m too bloody short for high wasted, my torso isn’t very long at all, Therefore high waisted jeans sit practically under my boobs and are so uncomfortable!

Im struggling to find low rise anywhere now. My go to were always the Top Shop Baxter jeans which are low rise but seems they don’t do them anymore so I have to get them from eBay.

Throughabushbackwards · 27/05/2023 21:40

If I wear high waisted trousers to sit all day at work I end up severely bloated. I have a pair of Mom jeans that are ok, they're loose and sit low, but I've just listed all my high waisted trousers on Vinted to be rid of the bastard things.

Where did you get them, if you don't mind me asking?

As a short person I hate that all trousers or jeans nowadays seemingly have to end before your ankle. It just makes your legs look shorter. And the combo of high waisted and short trousers just makes you look like a toddler whose mum has 'jumped' them into trousers to pull them up.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 27/05/2023 21:48

I can’t wait for mid rise and low rise to be more available, I agree OP not only are they uncomfortable there is just so much fabric, particularly if wearing a looser jean and then you have all this extra fabric under your top giving a lumpy line and adding extra inches and yes to vast expanses of bum, hate them.

MrFlibblesEyes · 27/05/2023 21:51

I was in matalan today and was looking at some cropped jegging type things but the waist was so high it was part way up my bra!!

Jourdain11 · 27/05/2023 21:52

I'm actually quite relieved that I'm not the only person in the world who hates the sensation of them all bunched up round the waist!

For PP who said this was a stealth boast - I'm not wishing to attire myself like Christina Aguilera ca. 2003. Perfectly happy for stomachs to be covered but just not be trousers that pull up to my ribs!!

OP posts:
SamanthaVimes · 27/05/2023 21:56

High waisted are SO uncomfortable. I literally can’t handle it even though I like the look of them. Low rise for me, I don’t care if my c section pouch hangs over I need to be comfy!

SadOrWickedFairy · 27/05/2023 22:03

I agree with you @Jourdain11 I look and feel far better in jeans/trousers that sit on my hips, I can't abide the high waisted ones as another poster said the waistband seems to be directly under my bra strap, comfortable they are not.
