I hate high-waisted trousers! AIBU?

I really, really dislike the feeling of high-waisted trousers round my middle. It just feels so constrictive and uncomfortable. I much prefer trousers that sit more on your hips or mid-rise. Since it seems like you can only buy high-waisted trousers, I guess I must be weird and the only person in the world who feels like this!

AIBU to hate high-waisted trousers and where, oh where, can I buy a pair that aren't high-waisted?

Oh, and couple the rib choking high rise pants with chunky wide elasticated waists and you have a humpty dumpty problem! I just want a mid rise with a flat waistband, and no way on earth is that easy to find nowadays.

I often roll joggers or elastic trousers down (or fold over) just to get them to sit at my actual waist instead of trying to eat my bra.

I like high waisted. I have a long body and shortish legs, am an apple but slim overall. High waisted works for me, makes my legs look longer, feels comfortable and doesn't fall down.

MusicLass · 17/06/2023 05:32

I agree with you OP. I’m short waisted and need the low rise to look and feel more balanced. I went shopping for some jeans a couple of weeks ago and none to be had anywhere. One pair in Uniqlo were named low rise but when I tried them on they seemed mid - high rise. I’m sure low rise will come round in fashion again, but it’s annoying waiting. I’ll have to stock up when the time comes!

I loathe high waisted jeans. I genuinely think they look unflattering even if you're slim as the denim makes everything look bigger than it is.

I have found Tommy Hilfiger Sophie jeans and 7 for All Mankind Bair Duchess to be my saviours.

I now need to replicate a pair of Superdry just above the knee jean shorts that are falling apart. I bought a pair on eBay last year but they're not quite the same.

They're the work of the devil to us short torso folk . I get most of my trousers and jeans from charity shops nowadays because they still have lots of low rise availability

Exactly this 😂

Vinted is another good source - especially if you have a brand and style you like (Oasis Scarlet style for me)

GooseyDiLoosey · 17/06/2023 15:01

YABU as high-waisted trousers are awesome, although I do remember a new found horror in the 00s that we had spent the 90s with our bellybuttons covered by denim 😆🤮

YA also NBU that it’s bloody annoying that the styles available at any given point are so trend led – why does everyone have to wear the same f*ing thing as dictated by the churn pushed by the fashion industry? It’s so annoying that if you want a particular type of style you’re supposed to wait 2 decades until it sees a revival 🙄 (There was like some sort of nationwide ban on combats for the duration of the 2000s)

I’m a slim hourglass/pear and mid-rise trousers are awful on me - they cut across my widest part so I can't tuck anything in or I look enormous. High-waisted trousers at least show off my small waist (and wide legged ones skim my hips and are therefore probably the most flattering cut).

garfieldeatscake · 17/06/2023 19:45

Think it depends on a persons shape. I find low rise constantly fall down, and pull my kniks down tooBlush so I spend my life hoiking. Mid rise never seem to have decent pockets. Where as my high rise don't need a belt and have good deep pockets.

woodhill · 17/06/2023 19:56

I hate low or mid rise and they are uncomfortable and give me a wedgie

High waisted are much better on me

CherryPosset · 19/06/2023 15:42

Im a bit on the thin side (subtle hourglass) and all of the extra fabric looks like i shoved a pillow or a nag of ferrets up my shirt. If the waistbands were flat it wouldnt be so bad, but lots of trousers at the moment have an ocean of gusset which seems to add about 5lbs to anyone.

What bothers me is the lack of choice, there are very few mid rises out there, even when the item description says that are. The thing with trends is there's always someone going to be left out, and this is why i loathe them. It is also hard to find a dress without high necks and tiers. Just tough luck really.

Women have such diverse body shapes, I do believe that we are far more diverse in shape than men are, which is why it is usually easier for them to find the correct fit. But women vary so much, from hips to boobs to waistlines, almost no two are quite alike, especially if we add in bodyweight, height and proportions. So one rise is not going to work for all women, and there's the problem!

Mid rise is perfect for me, it has complete coverage and makes my hips look smooth and elegant. They also make me look more in proportion, instead of coming up to my chest like those old men who used to pull their waistbands up over their bellies.
Im not fond of low rise as they have a tendency to slip down and create too much fiddling. But it is a pitiful state to only have super high rise. Almost every store is obsessed with them, and I wonder if it is something to do with the trend for expanding bum sizes Grin

CherryPosset · 19/06/2023 15:46

Oh, and I also bought a pair claiming to be mid rise last winter. Not too bad when stood up but when i sat down the amount of fabric at the crotch made them look like a collapsed tent. Sent them back.

They look mid rise on models if the model has a very long torso, which is common to pear shapes. I am happy that pears have something that they enjoy wearing, but for the rest of us it's a bit too much. I am so tired of the long arse look.

These Zara jeans are described as low to mid rise, which is patently bollox!
