Women's Park Run Record smashed to smithereens

The way to beat records for men to self ID and run as a female. Straight into the record books and stand aside females whilst man in dress sets the record. Is nothing safe from men anymore?

Was a married man until just 4 years ago.

I hope this person is proud of themselves for being such a super fast woman and training really really hard. Such talent.

changedforanswer · 24/05/2023 20:43

"Mara Yamauchi criticised Parkrun's self-ID gender rules, saying males in the female category 'means the erasure of female achievements'"

There are at least 2 of the top records now held by trans women. One a former male fell runner holds a women's record and is currently in jail for murder .

I know , I mean how can they really stand there and think they are the fastest women when they were born male and have male advantage. The entitlement of these men who are now identifying as women is astounding.

It's all a nonsense. They'll have to stop publishing records though, if anyhting's to be done. What else can they do? No parkrunners (or runners/competitors at any other mass participation event) are asked to prove their sex.

There's a woman who regularly beats me in a small local event (to about 6/7th place so no one would care anyway) who I strongly suspect is a man, but I haven't proved my sex either.

It's not about self ID "rules" though, surely. We all just tick the box, no one has ever checked any of us. I don't know how they could? No one's proved their age for the age rated records either.

underneaththeash · 24/05/2023 20:51

Pathetic cheat.

Oysterbabe · 24/05/2023 20:51

My brother's park run PB is faster than that. I'll tell him to stick a dress on next week.

lljkk · 24/05/2023 20:54

But parkrun isn't remotely competitive, no, not at all...

Honestly, this is probably the fastest way to get plenty of sunlight onto the situation.

He could run exactly as he is, no need for a dress or to shave his stubble. He just needs to declare that he’s a woman.

If more trans women athletes were being beaten by men clearly pretending to be women there would be a much larger outcry!

Actually wouldn't it be wonderful if men all took a stand and did exactly this?

It's not parkrun's fault though. They're a volunteer led event that runs on trust. I could enter as an 8yo, no one would know in the results that I wasn't. every possibility that I still wouldn't finish first

Season0fTheWitch · 24/05/2023 21:00

I'm a TRA and still think badly of this situation. Yes, women should be allowed to compete with women but clearly there is an unfair advantage in most of these cases where Trans women win records. But what is the solution? Mixed gender awards only?

Aeth · 24/05/2023 21:01

The women's record hasn't really been "smashed" though, a woman would have to be the one to beat it and, well... Need I say more.

The solution is that men run as men. Two sexes. No genders.

How does this not destroy womens sports?

MyNameIsErinQuin · 24/05/2023 21:05

It’s a record for 1 parkrun and it’s not that fast, our local one is much faster. No idea how any one wants expects parkrun to manage this issue though. You register yourself, tap out using your barcode, with a volunteer, often teenagers doing DfE and not especially interested. I used my son’s barcode by mistake once, he was furious with a huge PW. No one noticed that I wasn’t a 14 year old boy.

wincarwoo · 24/05/2023 21:09

@Season0fTheWitch your permission is welcome.

Women will just have to put up with never winning anything again. Mixed awards. JFC

That point has just flown past you.

BarleySugars · 24/05/2023 21:14

I agree its time men started flooding womens sport because they all 'transitioned', take away the easy wins for these cheats, then maybe women can have their sport back

Hmmm

What is the solution?

I just can’t think of one. Maybe you can?

It really hasn’t. Parkrun is just for fun, it’s not elite athletics. Most people who run regularly know who they “compete” against. If a newbie turns up and “wins”, so what? It’s really not a big issue. We did have a female who identified and was recorded as a man for a while at both parkrun and local club. Stopped the hormones, changed registration back to female and carried on. Who cared (other than hoping she/be/she was happy) - absolutely no one. Elite athletes, of course it’s a huge issue. Local fun run, it isn’t.

You've put "compete" in inverted commas. Do they compete, or don't they?

oviraptor21 · 24/05/2023 21:24

Who gets to decide whether ParkRun is just for fun or not?
Or your local football league. Or your basketball tournament? Do women always have to put up with men skewing the playing field?
