Women's Park Run Record smashed to smithereens

The way to beat records for men to self ID and run as a female. Straight into the record books and stand aside females whilst man in dress sets the record. Is nothing safe from men anymore?

Was a married man until just 4 years ago.

I'm a runner and I've won a few races. It means quite a lot to me, and I would be really fucking pissed off if I "lost" to a biological male.

Yes, I would but parkrun isn’t a race is it?

megletthesecond · 25/05/2023 08:33

damm that record is the UK fastest as its a fast course. Each course also has its own record with male and female record holders.
Women deserve to hold their own course records.

Whichnumbers · 25/05/2023 08:33

if it’s not a race, then why is it timed and why are “records” based on time being given?

ResisterRex · 25/05/2023 08:35

Women should stand with their backs to these men on the podium. Or refuse to get on it. Or hold their own medals ceremonies at the end where the women robbed of a place get their place.

VeronicaBeccabunga · 25/05/2023 08:38

I'm not a runner but my husband is and he does ParkRuns and is a frequent volunteer organiser.
In the past I've helped out by being a marshal or a timekeeper or whatever's needed. I always thought it was a lovely event.
I will not be volunteering again.

Fizbosshoes · 25/05/2023 08:44

Part of parkruns success is that it encompasses those who want a fast time trial and those who want a sociable fun run, a jog with their kids, a walk with their mates etc. Neither has precedence over the other. Inclusivity means encompassing everyone including those who do it competitively.

I know it's a timed run rather than a race but honestly if it's set up like a race (which it is) , some, not all will treat it as such. I do parkrun if I want to do a fast 5k against other people. And I like to look at my times and age gradings afterwards. I don't think everyone should run it, or run it fast, or be bothered about their times, people use parkrun however they want. If you're not bothered about times, fine, take a token but don't scan your barcode. But if they're providing stats, results and age gradings it's not unreasonable for people to look at them and question them

I'm a TRA and still think badly of this situation. Yes, women should be allowed to compete with women but clearly there is an unfair advantage in most of these cases where Trans women win records. But what is the solution? Mixed gender awards only?

Why are you acting like a solution is impossible? It’s very simple, we go back to segregating sport by sex. Easy.

Well, and also because MCb is an amazing runner. Let's not dismiss her achievements because we are arguing over Jeska.

When you are supporting something in the Daily Mail, you really need to reassess your priorities.

So if the Guardian reported it it would be ok? 🙄

Sport should be segregated by sex where required. It's really not difficult.

Are you saying that no one cares if they come first in park run?

LongTermLurker · 25/05/2023 08:52

Because i think the only person who would say that it's someone who's never come first in a park run!

So that fell runner repeatedly stabbed a uk athletics official in a heated dispute about whether they can run in the women’s race? And still so many sports see no reason for women to be concerned about this?! I think my brain might have just exploded!

CreateaUsername27 · 25/05/2023 09:09

Women participating in sport has always been far less than men.
Women pay a lot of their taxes on policing male sports and subsidising stadiums in sports that they hardly participate in and so a picture of a woman who had won a parkrun added a tiny bit of balance.

By allowing men to join the female category it means women will constantly loose to men, so just abolish it, lets show it as it is , it would be better than this artificially constructed pretence that fairness still exists, it does not.

Season0fTheWitch · 25/05/2023 09:16

wincarwoo · 24/05/2023 21:09

@Season0fTheWitch your permission is welcome.

Women will just have to put up with never winning anything again. Mixed awards. JFC

I'm asking a question love, calm down and read it again if you want to answer it

It's a very unusual situation. But I guess technically even ex criminals can run at parkrun?

or everyone should identify as a bicycle and turn up on bikes and race, get far faster times and make a mockery of the whole running race

SoShallINever · 25/05/2023 09:29

Oysterbabe · 24/05/2023 20:51

My brother's park run PB is faster than that. I'll tell him to stick a dress on next week.

Yes please do!

Whichnumbers · 25/05/2023 09:36

But what is the solution?

the same as for people with other types of physical differences. The paralympic is held otherwise if everyone was competing together some would have an advantage over others

Phos · 25/05/2023 09:41

I thought parkrun was non-competitive and all about turning up and running and the community aspect and times were irrelevant though? That's what people keep saying even though to me a timed event is a race, a competition.

getafringenotbotox · 25/05/2023 09:42

CalmConfident · 24/05/2023 23:02

aowalc 🤣

What does aowalc mean please?

GenXtra · 25/05/2023 09:43

@Whichnumbers next thing we’ll be hearing about are those SI as disabled so that they can compete in the Paralympics!

getafringenotbotox · 25/05/2023 09:47

I want to put my cats in crufts and say they identify as dogs but I cant. So unfair.

SoShallINever · 25/05/2023 09:52

Trans women have grown up in stronger, testosterone fuelled bodies, they have stronger musculature and larger lung capacity which puts them at an obvious advantage over females.

The solution is obviously to hold separate records for trans athletes. No one is suggesting they go and race on a separate track, everyone can run together, but the records are held separately.
