To be annoyed by a note left on my car?

I went to pick my children up from their nannies in the evening. The street they live on is on a bend and on one side of the bend is two houses with two drives so you can't park there, the bend in front of MIL house has room to park but is always full as there are no drives for this area, as you follow the road around there are two streets where there is space on the road and most of these houses also have drives.

For context I'd had to park quite far down from the house I was actually going too but made sure not to block any drive or any house opposites drive. I left my car half on the pavement half off the pavement so if had a pram they could fit through. Didn't think anything of it as there were literally no other parking spaces and there was a car just opposite me on the other side of the road or else I would of gone there.

When I've come back (I'd been 30 minutes max) As I've been driving a piece of paper has come up my windscreen nearly flying into my vision, so when I've gotten home I've looked and there's a snobby not telling me to be more considerate. Absolutely baffled. I hadn't parked diagonally or in anyway I would find offensive in the slightest, was blocking no one in. I pay road tax and it's not private property.

I have young children and I'm pregnant so this has really rubbed me up the wrong way as I had to park a fair walk from my MIL in the first place.

I don't understand why leave a note and not just come and speak to me in person ( even though I honestly can't see what I did wrong) I understand it's annoying to have people park in front of your house as I live on a public street but that's life.

It's really wound me up. I know most of it is probably pregnancy hormones but AIBU to be annoyed by this? Or would this annoy anyone else.

Just needed a little vent.

Why did you park half on the pavement rather than just on the road?

TellHimDirectlyInDetail · 24/05/2023 20:00

Yeah that would annoy me especially since there's no explanation of what the issue is. It could be that there's a wheel chair user and they need more space than a pram or if could be an entitled person who thinks they own the space outside of their house. Either way it's a bit passive aggressive since there's no explanation.

Thinkwhat · 24/05/2023 20:00

You can park on the road, but you shouldn’t park in the pavement. So yes YABU

Tryingtokeepgoing · 24/05/2023 20:00

Well I might get flamed for this, but I think if you had to park partly on the pavement then there wasn’t really a parking space there. When you say there literally no other spaces I think you mean there were no other spaces convenient for you…and so for that reason I think you probably were being inconsiderate and so you are being unreasonable.

Yarnysaura · 24/05/2023 20:02

The person wouldn't have known whose car it was. You parked on a pavement. Next time, park properly.

Overthebow · 24/05/2023 20:02

YABU for parking half on the pavement. I would have been annoyed if I lived there too. What if a double buggy or wheelchair needed to use the path? If there’s no room to park on the road then you don’t park there.

timesogin · 24/05/2023 20:02

I'd be annoyed too
And also think that whoever wrote the note needs to get out more and stop being so petty
Flush it / burn it and get a glass of wine

dontlookbackyourenotgoingthatway · 24/05/2023 20:02

You don't pay Road tax and even you did, it's not a fee for parking on the pavement

Lemonfanta4 · 24/05/2023 20:03

Don’t park on the pavement and you won’t get snotty notes 🤷‍♀️

Why did you park half on the pavement rather than just on the road?

The way that the road is there is a box on the street opposite, an electric box I think, a green one, so if I'd of been on the road fully another car going down the street wouldn't of been able to fit through as it's quite narrow.

Also there are cars all over the street so if everyone parked fully on the road it would be a nightmare for anyone trying to just drive down the road.

There's also drives opposite all over the place so if you park fully on the road people can't swing out of their drives if they need too.

You were double parked, and partly on the pavement?

MovinGroovinBarbie · 24/05/2023 20:05

Probs just saw your car half on the pavement and immediately thought it was cheeky parking (I'm not saying it necessarily was).

My friend lives on a new build where there are bays of spaces in the little cul de sac bit where her house is. None of these are allocated. There must be about 10-15 spaces and I've literally never seen more than 4-5 in use. Every single time I visit this woman leaves a note on my car saying it's residents parking only. I asked my mate and she said the letting agents told her she could let friends park there. So I've been ensuring I come in the pick up truck now just for the added lols as it slightly overlaps the bay. 😂

I wasn't double parked. I was parked on one side of the road. With a car behind me on the opposite side of the road. As said. There are drives all over each side of this road with spaces between each drive for parking. However the road is narrow so if everyone was to park on the road fully there would be hardly any room for cars to get through

Then you don’t park there, you park further away in a suitable place and walk. You don’t park half on the pavement.

So from this it sounds like you were on the pavement and double parked it a car was parked opposite you too? That's probably note territory? Or if you could have been quicker than 30 mins for minimal disruption if you needed to park badly.

I love a good parking diagram, that might help see if it's CF territory?

changewhale · 24/05/2023 20:07

Had you genuinely left enough room for both pedestrians of varying widths and wide lorries/cars.

HarrietJet · 24/05/2023 20:07

You were parked on the pavement. Leaving "space for a pram to fit through" doesn't give you leave to pavement park 🤷🏻‍♀️

Firstmonthfree · 24/05/2023 20:08

If you had to mount the pavement in order to allow other cars to pass then you weren’t parked safely or appropriately. YABU.

I've spoke to my MIL and she has said this lady does it to anyone and everyone who parks in front of her house.

I understand I shouldn't have parked on the pavement however I didn't want my wing mirror being taken off by someone whizzing around the corner and I knew I wouldn't be long inside the house.

Just not sure where else I was supposed to go because the street is literally crammed with cars. Normally I go right at the other end but there was just nowhere to go tonight.

I parked partly on a pavement on a side street which all the other cars had done all along the road and I had a visit from the police!

Lcb123 · 24/05/2023 20:08

Fine to be upset. But the Highway Code says you shouldn’t park on the pavement (and it’s illegal in London). And road tax doesn’t exist. You pay a tax based on vehicle emission.

No, probably badly explained, there was a car a good bit behind me on the opposite side of the road, I wasn't anywhere near parallel to that car. I also know who's car it was who was parked on the other side and it wasn't them. But I couldn't park in front of them due to the green box and then another drive

All these people saying you mustn't park on the pavement. I get it but in some areas you literally have no other choice or you'd all block the roads for fire engines. There's a balance between not blocking the pavement and not blocking the road.

ThinWomansBrain · 24/05/2023 20:10
