Job adverts without salary details

I'm finding these infuriating and it's putting me off even applying for jobs that otherwise look a good fit for me.

It makes me feel that if the company can't be transparent about salary, what kind of organisation are they otherwise?

I don't want to apply for numerous jobs only to find out it would never be financially viable for me to take up an offer.

Is there ever a benefit to potential employees of this type of advert?

Am I missing something and being unreasonable to not even apply?

I know its so annoying

I applied for a job once that just said competitive salary.

I got through stage one online interview and I asked then what the salary would be. Was told I'd be told at inperson second stage interview which would be a serveral part all day interview.

It wasn't until later in the day of the 2nd interview that I was told what the salary and benefits would be.

They were ok for the role but maybe less than expected for the company and I clearly reacted to them, well at least my face did. So the guy was like yeah that's part of the reason we don't say on the advert etc. We don't want people only applying for the salary.

And then he added the line "oh the main reason we dont say is we pay every role differently and we don't want other staff to know how much any one else is being paid but dont worry you'll be one of the better paid ones. Some got paid a lot more than others/ others got better benefits etc. We also ask employees not to talk about it so people don't get upset."

I then asked if they was any room for negotiations and he said no.

It was at this point I learnt never to apply without knowing at least a ballpark figure.

I was 7 out of 8 stages of this interview process, 3 formal interviews, 2 group meet and greets, a presentation and a lunch when I realised I wasted my time with company.

I guess I would probably only find out if he was telling the truth about the roles salary after starting!

He was then genuinely confused when I pulled out of the process.
