I’m just wondering who on earth cares? Can’t understand why this is such big news.

'Thank you for reminding us that while people died alone and the bereaved went unsupported because of lockdown rules, our very own CaligulaPM Johnson was having totally essential parties with his mates.'

Yep. That snap of them stood around a table with sandwiches certainly looked like a wild one.

pointythings · 22/05/2023 19:44

@derxa some people may feel like that. I don't. I'm perfectly happy for any human being of any sex and any ethnic background to be ruthless and right wing. Fortunately I'm also free to loathe them for it. And I do. Equally.

Why do you bother loathing them? Better to campaign for change.

It's not one or the other.

@Janiie There have been so many posts on this thread this last hour that it is understandable that you the missed the one where I asked you why it is acceptable for a 56 year old to have a birthday party, but not millions of children. Do you have an answer to that?

Suella DeVil is a vile woman. Absolutely vile. She has got to go.

Nope sorry, silly name calling is not allowed. I get told off repeatedly for saying Keith or Sir Beer Korma.

ToWhitToWhoo · 22/05/2023 19:49

Moonmelodies · 22/05/2023 17:50

It's mostly because she's not white.

No wonder right-wingers are always accusing left-wingers of 'playing the race card': it seems to be the first thing that occurs to them to do when it's one of theirs!

When I last looked, Boris Johnson, Dominic Cummins, Dominic Raab, Gavin Williamson, and plenty of others were white: it didn't prevent them from receiving harsh criticism and eventually having to resign.

It's possible to do both. You seem to suffer from zero sum thinking.

My daughter was 6 during the pandemic and the "very same week* bojo was having a party at ten downing Street my daughter drew faces of her friends on balloons so it would feel like they were at her party.

She would have done anything to gather round a tray of sandwiches with a few friends

AnarchoTyrannosaurus · 22/05/2023 19:51

After all we make laws to deal with criminals, and everyone knows that criminals are poor, ill educated and very often foreign.

You sound ignorant.

Rhondaa · 22/05/2023 19:51

derxa · 22/05/2023 19:19

It does. To my shame I've done two speed awareness courses. In both cases I was 10 miles an hour over the limit. The courses were very useful and I'm much more speed aware and a better driver. SB is hated on here. I wonder what Suella, Priti Patel and Kemi Badenoch have in common?

You have no integrity if caught speeding apparently, a pp stated so earlier.

Yes those 3 women do come in for a lot of criticism 🤔

I am sure the lightbulb that is D Raab would like us to remember that the misogny men like him and Boris recieve is every bit as bad as that which Bravemen is subjected to.

'My daughter was 6 during the pandemic and the "very same week bojo was having a party at ten downing Street my daughter drew faces of her friends on balloons so it would feel like they were at her party.'*

Confused

You didn't think a sing song of happy birthday on zoom would have been better?!

GettingStuffed · 22/05/2023 19:56

She's an awful women, totally unaware of what is going on, she's criticised politicians from other countries who are doing the same as they are. She also said that the UK must become a high wage country, whilst being part of the government who are not giving beyond cost of living pay rises.

Vitriolinsanity · 22/05/2023 19:57

Rishi is "consulting his ethics advisor" which I assume is a Magic 8 Ball.

@Janiie any chance you could explain why a 6 year old should have a sing song on zoom, but a 56 year old can have a birthday party?

There are a lot of members of thos government who get a lot of criticism and most of them are white men. In fact most of the Tories forced to resign have been White men. It's either disingenuous or lazy to select a subset and imply racism or misogyny merely serves to undermine your arguments.

do you have a list of laws that it is acceptable for people to break, or does it only apply to Tory politicians?
Oh I do hope that our resident cutnpastova expert comes along to join the party

If you insist - I could mention Harriet Harman again - chair of the privileges committee deciding Boris Johnson's fate:

2010 Labour deputy leader treated leniently, campaigners claim
Harman, a QC, was solicitor general...
January 2003 - Banned from driving for seven days and fined £400 after admitting speeding at 99mph on the M4 near Swindon.
September 2007 - Pleaded guilty by post to a speeding offence...
January 2010 - Fined £350 and given three penalty points...
A witness was reported to have said that Harman had wound down her window after the crash and said: "I'm Harriet Harman, you know where you can get hold of me."

What?!

Well my flabber is just gasted. Harriet Harman tut tut. No integrity if caught speeding as has been decreed on mn.

One of my young nieces celebrated her birthday that week as well - she held her birthday party (with five friends) in her back garden - which was allowed at the time. Parks and zoos were also open for those children without gardens.

So why couldn't Boris just have his party outside?

Yes I'm stunned that a parent would encourage pretending balloons were friends. It's just bizarre. We all had birthdays and cake was eaten, people were in gardens, rules were observed. No balloons masquerading as pals required.

He was at work. It was sandwiches round a desk. We've been through this a trillion times. Let it go.. let it goooo 🎶

They'll all be gone next year. I've got no love for any political party. I just want someone vaguely competent in charge. SB PP and KB get special vitriol because of their colour and the fact that they are women. That's pretty obvious to me. Women are not allowed to be ruthless and right wing.

Why does anyone in public life need to be "ruthless" are they butchers? or public servants?

I would suggest that Braverman and the rest are actually incompetent (you of course know she has been sacked before) or do you think Abbott is despised because of her incompetence or that it is because she is a black female MP? who gets over 50% of all abuse on social media handed out to MPs.

Well let's make it a trillion and 1 times and perhaps you @Janiie or someone else can explain why a 56 year old needed an illegal birthday party, but children could not have parties?

To be clear for you, why could the Prime Minister and his wife and mates have sandwiches round a desk and not millions of children?

.. you forgot to mention the large amounts of booze that we all saw in these photographs and he got a fine for breaking the rules... Sunak got one as well, the MET saw things rather differently and considered it was NOT a work event.

In your opinion, should rules not apply to PMs and ministers? Do you also believe that if "you" keep telling a lie, eventually, it becomes the truth?
