I’m just wondering who on earth cares? Can’t understand why this is such big news.

If you're not angry, you're not paying attention.

This. With bells on.

She could have done it on zoom like other people I know

"Probably not a good idea - for the same reason some teachers objected to appearing on zoom in case they were filmed. "

My husband disabled his camera so was not seen himself but could still see the host and join in the meeting .

Yeah, you aren't allowed to do that in an actual speed awareness course.

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/05/2023 19:18

Because she's an incompetent fuckwit with a sketchy grasp of the law, which makes her a very unsuitable person to be Home Secretary.

She needs a holiday. Rwanda?

😂😂😂

LakieLady · 22/05/2023 18:17

Duh, I didn't realise that the course was just instead of the fine, I thought it let you off the points too.

It does. To my shame I've done two speed awareness courses. In both cases I was 10 miles an hour over the limit. The courses were very useful and I'm much more speed aware and a better driver. SB is hated on here. I wonder what Suella, Priti Patel and Kemi Badenoch have in common?

They are all Tories, and Women.

You missed Liz Truss and Boris (and many others) off the list.

I'm telling you my husband did. Maybe the host was very lax but it happened.

A touch disingenuous to suggest they are the only Tories people don't like. As there are plenty of others, what these three specifically have in common isn't as relevant. I loathe Jacob Rees-Mogg, for example.

lavenderlou · 22/05/2023 19:25

I wonder what Suella, Priti Patel and Kemi Badenoch have in common?

They all hold deeply unpleasamt, inhumane views?

AnarchoTyrannosaurus · 22/05/2023 19:26

wellstopdoingitthen · 22/05/2023 19:16

@AnarchoTyrannosaurus
It still doesn't entitle her to have special treatment.

My boss had to do one of these & he only had his camera on when speaking to the trainer.

I disagree. In her position, there should be an option not to do it with the general public. I'd say that for any high profile person of whatever political persuasion.

It sounds like your boss got special privileges though. As you're not allowed to have the camera off. Because they want to make sure you're actually actively participating in it.

Could it be that they have in common they are vile people who seem to go out of their way to make some of the poorest and most vulnerable in our society even worse off?

lljkk · 22/05/2023 19:29

They are radically super right wing. That's what they have in common.
I really want to like KB, she's interesting. She's also blamed civil servants tasked with figuring out which EU legislation it might be harmful to remove... with not being enthusiastic to remove it. Total mind-games crap. They were told to identify legislation that might not be safe to repeal, literally their job to be cautious !!

Braverman was endorsing a return to Trussonomics the other day. And Patel is a certified bully.

I said before that this whole scandal is ridiculous, I don't care what stupid things Braverman said to her civil servants. But that doesn't mean I like SB at all.

I can point at many women of colour who aren't super right wing, & who I like or at least don't despair of. If you want.

I quite agree if you are important enough the law of the land that you make should not apply to you.
After all we make laws to deal with criminals, and everyone knows that criminals are poor, ill educated and very often foreign.

pointythings · 22/05/2023 19:31

@derxa your list of loathed Tories is incomplete and highly selectively edited.

But if you want to know about these three in particular I'd start with incompetence - (remember how Badenoch said the problems the car industry has are nothing to do with Brexit? Riiiiiiight).
For Patel, add in being a bully and having secret meetings with Israel. And Braverman has now broken the ministerial code three times.

I'm sure the other people which should be on your highly selective list also have many things against their names. This is what people voted for, apparently.

They're of the same ilk as Boris Johnson, Dominic Raab, Liz Trussterfuck, Matt Hancock etc. All incompetent fuckwits with a sketchy grasp of the law and how to run a country.

You seem to have made an error in your post. They are not interested in running a country. They are interested in enriching themselves and showing off to their mates. Nothing more.

They'll all be gone next year. I've got no love for any political party. I just want someone vaguely competent in charge. SB PP and KB get special vitriol because of their colour and the fact that they are women. That's pretty obvious to me. Women are not allowed to be ruthless and right wing.

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/05/2023 19:42

Rhondaa · 22/05/2023 17:32

It's the hysterical media, like Boris and the cake all over again.

She asked if she could do the speeding course as a 1 to 1, was told no so paid the fine. It is such a non story

Thank you for reminding us that while people died alone and the bereaved went unsupported because of lockdown rules, our very own Caligula PM Johnson was having totally essential parties with his mates.

We should never forget @Janiie.Thanks

pointythings · 22/05/2023 19:44

@derxa some people may feel like that. I don't. I'm perfectly happy for any human being of any sex and any ethnic background to be ruthless and right wing. Fortunately I'm also free to loathe them for it. And I do. Equally.

RightWhereYouLeftMe · 22/05/2023 19:45

Women are not allowed to be ruthless and right wing.

Women in politics get abuse simply for being women, yes.

Suella Braverman is an awful person.

Both of those can be true.

Newbutoldfather · 22/05/2023 19:46

I don’t understand why people aren’t more outraged.

It is not a great look to be a law maker and a law breaker but, if she had taken the points or just attended a public course (her choice), it would have been a non-issue.

But, instead, she opted to co-opt civil servants into trying to arrange a luxury a la carte course for her. So, she wants you to spend your taxes arranging her personal affairs…

And, if the above isn’t bad enough, she was already on ‘probation’ after sloppily leaking data which would have cost any normal person their job.
