I’m just wondering who on earth cares? Can’t understand why this is such big news.

@Alexandra2001 - it's not about whether the policies were ones I agreed with or not. The qualitative difference between a Cabinet in say 2008 or 2010 and 2022 was quite significant.

That's the difference. You do not have to like the Tory Party to see it.

2010 - Dominic Grieve is Attorney General. Grieve is a QC in his own right and later is awarded the Legion d'Honneur for his contribution to Anglo French relations.

2021 - Suella Braverman is the Attorney General. She is not a QC in her own right and takes an honorary title. She spends much of her time destroying or criticising our nearest neighbours.

2010 - Kenneth Clarke is Lord Chancellor, though this is frankly a retirement position given his prior posts in government as Chancellor. Clarke is a QC in his own right.

2023 - Dominic Raab, a man who was not kept on by the city law firm he trained at, anc dismissed by the FCO as a junior lawyer, spends his time engaging in near actionable conduct against his own staff.

My point is that the quality of these people is now so low that they actually cannot deliver their policy at all. They are not competent. It's been a little over a decade since the Conservatives could pull on real expertise.

'And Andrea Jenkyns telling the british public to fuck off'

Oh I didn't see that, do you have a link?

What I saw was her gesticulating crudely to an abusive, baying mob outside the HOC.

You surely aren't suggesting she was telling the British public to fuck off? That's a stretch even by these very stretchy threads.

Roussette · 25/05/2023 16:53

See above. Flipping the bird is fuck off. I'm sure you know that.

Cue you saying no it isn't. I double checked, in three sources it says it is.

I have watched the footage more than once, and you saying it's OK if a teensy weensy crude is not a surprise to me.

No stretch here. She didn't even apologise, and did everything to justify it. Bit like you

Rhondaa · 25/05/2023 16:26

No, I don't need a thicker skin thanks. It is offensive language that she belatedly apologised for. Stop enabling it and excusing it like so many others on here. Braverman gets constant pearl clutching for 'invasion', I think we all know who needs a 'thicker skin'.

Suella was asked by a holocaust survivor to moderate her language. She point blank refused https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2023/jan/14/suella-braverman-wont-apologise-to-holocaust-survivor-for-calling-migrants-invasion

Andrea flips the bird and goads the general public whilst attending downing st in an official capacity. Shrugs her shoulders and gets a promotion to education minister. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/tory-mp-andrea-jenkyns-sticks-27436181?int_source=amp_continue_reading&int_medium=amp&int_campaign=continue_reading_button#amp-readmore-target

Angela refers to tories as scum in parliament. Apologises. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-59081482.amp

Who do you think is enabling again?

Tory MP Andrea Jenkyns sticks finger up at 'Bye Boris' crowd sparking fury

The Morley and Outwood MP, who has now been promoted to Education secretary, was heading to Downing Street to meet Johnson and certainly stood out from the crown in a neon yellow dress

Ah so she didn't 'tell the British public to fuck off' at all. Thought not.

You conveniently didn't read my post.

The V's up or fliipping the bird is 'fuck off'

Unless she put her middle finger up to see if the wind was westerly or south easterly? Possible I suppose.

Cornettoninja · 25/05/2023 17:12

Flipping the bird isn’t telling someone to fuck off??? On what planet is that?

@Janiie, honestly it’s excruciating reading you trying to construct Hollywood courtroom zingers.

Gesticulating to the abusive baying crowd? I don't think we can say rabble rousers are 'the British public' no matter how desperate we get Confused.

The pp implied she was on the telly being interviewed and bizarrely said 'the British public can fuck off!'

No she didn’t. You (wrongly) inferred that.

no they didn’t and you know it.

I think it’s the blatantly faux golly-gosh naivety that makes you particularly excruciating.

Well, right back at ya.

Hahaha... where did I say she was on telly speaking the words 'fuck off british public'.

Come on .... 🤣

You may think it's OK. I don't.

Notonthestairs · 25/05/2023 17:36

Given James Gray suggested sending a bomb to Annelise Dodds' office I think certain people can get down from their high horse.

You said she told the British public to fuck off.

She didn't.

She gesticulated crudely at a baying, abusive crowd. 2 different things.

Do you think other people in the public eye who react negatively to heckling crowds and press are 'talking to the British public' too?

I get your point BUT for me, they all drink from the same bucket.

I actually like Clarke, Heseltine and Grieve now because out of office they come across as decent people but when they were in office, they pursued and supported some pretty horrible policies.
Going back to the current Govt, May as HS was loathed as much as Braverman is now, she didn't act alone, she was supported by Cameron et al.

There are very clear and fundamental differences why someone wants to be a Tory MP or a Lab one.

Alexandra2001 · 25/05/2023 17:39

People who vote to keep food of the plates of poor school children are scum, any reasonable person would see that.

pointythings · 25/05/2023 17:51

In @Janiie 's worldò a Tory could shoot a crying baby because it was crying abusively and that would be fiiiiine. The double standard is alive and well and living in Toryland.

I don't believe in her real world she actually would.

But in her real world she thinks she's funny and so comes here and types stuff to wind people up.

That's why I don't respond.

If these posters were ignored unless they contributed something substantial to debate they'd get bored.

Cornettoninja · 25/05/2023 18:05

You’re probably right @itsgettingweird. In my defence I’ve done a pretty good job of ignoring her since BJ but the snidely lecturing people on not resorting to crassness ‘like those people’ makes me bite.

Im not sure they do tbh. The deflection queen Janiie, for instance, appears to be physically incapable of not commenting on a tory related thread.

You can get them to have a tantrum and flounce if you keep calling them out for refusing to answer questions though, but even that's just a temporary measure.

'Fairly accurate description of someone watching porn in the chamber and whilst serving on a select committee, I’d say.'

Well yes but she didn't say 'someone watching porn whilst service on a select committee is scum' did she'? She said Tories are scum. Highly goady language and I don't doubt someone of her intellectual level could quite easily be provoked by her rant. She apologised, late rather than never, but let's not be like a pp and try to excuse this shit with silly 'It's unfair to scum tee hee' comments.

Talking of silly @Janiie are you any closer to explaining why a 56 year old should have a birthday party but not millions of children?
