I’m just wondering who on earth cares? Can’t understand why this is such big news.

And if our resident Tory arselicker bothered to look at timestamps on posts, they'd might have worked out that my earlier comments were made pre-starting work, and I'm currently on my lunch break.

I have a day off.

Our Lord and Masters allow us annual leave. Its shocking isn't it?

Perhaps some people have taken the "servant" part a bit too literally and think we only get half a day off a week? 😁

No but the Health Secretary is responsible for the NHS and thank goodness nobody holds them responsible for the actions of each and every NHS staff member.

The Home Secretary is responsible for the Passport Office and it is not whataboutery to point out the recent grotesque incompetence of passport office staff in issuing fraudulent passports to large numbers of criminals and contrasting the treatment of these staff in the media with the treatment of the Home Secretary for asking a question.

Ah, so the Home Secretary is responsible for the passport office, but has instead of dealing with the issues that your raise has been spending her and the departments time finding ways to avoid the public finding out that she broke the law.

Look! A squirrel!

The nice thing about the squirrels the Tories throw out on threads like this is that they just serve to prelong the thread and make people more angry with the Tories.

Squirrels! Lolz! Is that a joke lke 'Big Baby' and other rib ticklers?

The nice thing about sensible posters on froth fests like these is it offers balanced debate, even evidence thanks to posts from Clavinova to show you up. Horribly inconvenient I grant you.

@Janiie since you had time to reply, do you also have time to explain why it was in your view acceptable for a 56 year old to have a birthday party, and yet millions of children were not able to?

OneTC · 23/05/2023 12:50

I can't believe that anyone thinks this is a fuss about nothing.

Someone flagrantly abusing their position should be a big cause for concern. We know she plays pretty fast and loose with quite a few rules now. There is a ministerial code for a good reason. She doesn't abide by it. She attempts to use her position in her favour. That is a corrupt attitude even if you get told no. They have security advisers who would have raised this if she was a security threat to the general public Wink

Roussette · 23/05/2023 12:54

That has always been the case with this shitshow of a government. Lie, minimise and change the subject

jgw1 · 23/05/2023 12:55

But Jeremy Corbyn.

'Someone flagrantly abusing their position should be a big cause for concern'

Oh yes someone abusing their position is a big cause for concern. Obviously.

Someone asking someone else to look into a 1 to 1 speed awareness course is not a big cause for concern, but carry on letting the media whip you into a frenzy as they always do. I'm surprised we haven't had Paul Brand pipe up about cake again.

I am not whipped up into a frenzy, not in the slightest. It is what I expect from this woman. She has broken the MC before, after all.
All quite normal for her.

OneTC · 23/05/2023 12:59

Yeah you can tell by my tone that I'm really frothing about it rather than just viewing it with a kind of dull resignation

@Janiie you do seem to have quite an obsession with cake.
Are you still of the view that is fine for 56 year olds to celebrate their birthday with friends and family with cake, but not 6 year olds?

Cornettoninja · 23/05/2023 13:01

If there’s a political party that should be on its best behaviour right now, or at least intelligently sneaky, it’s the tories.

The more people are told ‘it doesn’t matter’ the more they care. It takes much more effort to gaslight and obfuscate than just to own up.

Nail on head there. Dull resignation. And a bit of here we go again thrown in

Psst both of those statements are the same thing.

Efacesen, funny how Hancock was blamed for moving covid positive patients out of NHS hospitals and into care homes then.

It seeks civil servants can never be blamed for anything, it’s always someone else’s fault.

Nothing 'funny' about it at all - Hancock made a political decision with disastrous consequences

You don't seem to understand the lines of accountability in government

Rhondaa · 23/05/2023 13:20

'Hancock made a political decision with disastrous consequences'

He made a practical decision based on the info and resources available at that time. As did every other country but Hancock the only one who is a villain because he is an Evil Tory.

Hippyhippybake · 23/05/2023 13:21

Actually it was the information provided by Public Health England on asymptomatic transmission that led to the decision. The body that runs the NHS.

It was Hancock's policy and Hancock and Public Health England were held responsible for it.

Public Health England (or UKHSA, as they are now) do not run the NHS. They are two completely separate organisations.

Come on, everyone knows that Ministers in Johnson's government were only responsible for the office pot plants.
