I’m just wondering who on earth cares? Can’t understand why this is such big news.

I suppose naming your daughter after a drunk on a popular TV show could lead to teasing.

Yes, strange choice 😂

No one disputes she broke the speed limit? Or that she asked for a 1 to 1. fact.

The issue is she couldn't so paid the fine. Fact.

By asking her favourite "blob" she broke the ministerial code. Fact

pointythings · 22/05/2023 21:50

@Janiie I have never, ever, ever asked anyone junior to me in the office to sort out my personal shit on their work time. Because sorting out my personal shit is my job.

HTH.

'SueEllen'

I'll ask again, can I say Keith or Sir Beer Korma then if SueEllen is allowed? As an aside why SueEllen, is there a Dallas link I'm missing?

Her parents actually named her Sue-Ellen, and, yes, I think it was after the character in 'Dallas'; but she prefers Suella. So it's not the same as calling Keir Starmer 'Keith', which was never his name. More perhaps like using the actual first name of someone who always uses their middle name - e.g. Alexander (Boris) Johnson or James (Gordon) Brown.

But I won't make fun of her name; that's childish, when there are much more substantial things to criticise her for.

SweetSakura · 22/05/2023 21:57

VonThorn · 22/05/2023 21:13

There are more Torybots people sticking up for SueEllen on this thread than in Westminster. When this ^ is their defence, it says everything.

I hope she sticks around. I mean, she's horrific - absolutely horrific - but the GE is in sight, and she's an absolute vote-loser, except among that knot of Tory voters who adore her overt cruelty and racist language.

It's a very depressing, yet inevitable way to end the Tory term of power.

It's like an ERG reunion on here tonight isn't it Grin

ChrisPNoodles · 22/05/2023 21:57

I care. It's just another case of the Tories breaking rules and doing whatever they can to get away with it.

Roussette · 22/05/2023 21:58

Yep
Far more
I don't care a fig about her name. She can call herself what she likes

But we know what sort of person she is. Whatever her name is

I don't think simply using her birth name - I have called her Sue-Ellen, as it's how we tend to refer to her when discussing all this stuff at home - is making fun of her name.

And yes. There are many substantial things to address with her position and politics, and attempts at sidetracking on this thread should indeed be resisted.

So are you saying the police are corrupt important incompetent?

Consistently lenient.

If they were consistently lenient are you saying Boris and Rishi should have had even more fines?

No - I thought you were referring to Durham Police.

ChrisPNoodles · 22/05/2023 22:05

To those defending Suella, I wonder if you could tell me what tangible results she's achieved in her roles within the Tory party? Thank you.

Divisiveness

That's it

TheHandmaiden · 22/05/2023 22:13

Writing a legal opinion so meaningless that colleagues resigned rather than support it?

VonThorn · 22/05/2023 22:13

Yes. She's stoking division as a political platform for her own ambitions.

Let her. It's better long term for the country, as an even more divided Tory party, with a fucking batshit hard right faction battling for the upper hand will keep it out of power for longer.

Yep.

But Fareham need to get their arse into gear and vote her out.

Sadly as much chance as my chocolate teapot Tory of 30 years standing. Don't get me talking about him I'll be here till next Tuesday

It's mostly because she's not white.

It’s mostly because she’s an incompetent waste of space and has no moral compass.

Oh she totally is. They'll all be out trying to outdo each other now to appeal to the headbangers so that they can take over leadership of the opposition after the next election.

I was really thinking of parody-names like Cruella. Which I've used myself- I don't mind being a bit childish at times, when our wonderful leaders are involved. But, to be honest, her involvement with the National Conservative conference has truly terrified me, and pushed me from satire to deep seriousness.

It has actually occurred to me that she could be deliberately TRYING to get sacked, in order to become a Blessed Martyr for the Right, and free herself up to campaign from the backbenches to topple Sunak. Which may be exactly why Sunak is so strangely reluctant to sack her.

Roussette · 22/05/2023 22:32

Yep her appearance at the NatCon was one step too far. Anyone who supports her really needs to have a good long hard think

Blogswife · 22/05/2023 22:34

The “big deal” is that she is immoral & unethical and repeatedly breaks the ministerial code . She has recently used her position and privilege to try to avoid speeding points . She’s not fit for Office but yet she keeps her job !

Yellowdays · 22/05/2023 22:34

She is in a senior position in the government and she has been shown attempting to find a way round the system used by everyone else. Sack her.

The last one she did here in the local church had attendees who swapped places with a holocaust survivor who stood and asked a question.

And the holocaust survivor wrongly accused Braverman of using the word ''swarm''.

She rightly accused her of using the word ‘invasion’.

The same thought has occurred to me - SB trying to be sacked to attain right wing martyr status.

The fact that she keeps pushing that particular envelope and yet is still in post? The Tory party is heading for a reckoning, I reckon.

According to R4 this evening she had her office tell the media, it wasn’t true she’d had a speeding fine, which is another breach for the ethics/standards person to investigate.

I suspect Sunack is rueing the day he rehired her to the cabinet only a week after she’d been sacked for, erm, breaking the ministerial code. But he had to keep those swivel eyed Brexiteers on side didn’t he.

I was listening to a journalist earlier and apparently when Braverman said to Sunak she'd drop out of the leadership race if he put her high up in the cabinet he said to his advisors "I could be prime minister but l'd have to have fucking Suella in my cabinet".

I wouldn't be surprised if he's been waiting for a reason, any reason, to get rid.

I don't think Beer Korma (or Keith, which I don't even understand as a joke) is his actual name so it's not really the same.

I've never called her Sue Ellen, but it is her name.
