I’m just wondering who on earth cares? Can’t understand why this is such big news.

'She asked her civil servants to find out. They aren't employed by her'

Fgs I'd ask people to find out stuff at work. Never realised you had to pay someone's wages before you asked juniors to look into something for you.

... they aren't her juniors, they are civil servants.. totally inappropriate for her to try and avoid public scrutiny, then again you Tories seem good at that.

LizzieSiddal · 22/05/2023 21:04

According to R4 this evening she had her office tell the media, it wasn’t true she’d had a speeding fine, which is another breach for the ethics/standards person to investigate.

I suspect Sunack is rueing the day he rehired her to the cabinet only a week after she’d been sacked for, erm, breaking the ministerial code. But he had to keep those swivel eyed Brexiteers on side didn’t he.

itsgettingweird · 22/05/2023 21:04

He tweeted she asked whether a speeding ticket incurred in the course of parliamentary duties could be claimed on expenses. This happened in 2015.
You may think that an ordinary question but I certainly have never asked anyone I've worked for if they might pay a speeding ticket. It certainly stuck in William Wragg mind.

I know. Imagine asking your boss if a ticket occurred during your commute to work, to a training course or meet8n* can be claimed back through expenses. After all - you were working at the time you broke the law!

Love an argument over semantics
You pick the one word "swarm"
Meanwhile in the real world we will realise swarm, influx, invasion etc all had the same meaning...

In the real world - the Guardian have also pointed out that Braverman has not used the word “swarm” on record.

She said invasion.

Personally i find that much more inflammatory.

A swarm of bees.

An invasion of bees.

Like I said semantics.

But rhetoric has meaning and it's about inciting hatred.

itsgettingweird · 22/05/2023 21:07

Have I understood correctly that we should be full of praise for the Home Secretary because she has not said that some of the poorest and deprived people in the country are a swarm, but instead are an invasion?

Nope you read it right.

And yes - this is the only defence they have to argue with. 🙄

Iwasafool · 22/05/2023 21:08

AnarchoTyrannosaurus · 22/05/2023 19:04

Would you like to be uploaded to social media doing a speed awareness course, with all the knuckle draggers laughing and jeering at you for being a loser?

No I wouldn't like that at all so I don't break the speed limit. It is really easy, you just keep an eye on the speedometer.

So no attempts to say how the Home Secretary is good at her job, but rather than she must stay because she thinks people are invading the uk, rather than swarming.

Ok.

Exactly, i never been prosecuted for speeding, despite spending over 30 years driving 35k per year for all of them.

Actually i was in Austria, on the spot 90 euro fine.

The accelerator works both ways.

She of course could have just quietly paid the fine and taken the points but apparently rules don't apply to her.....

ChrisPNoodles · 22/05/2023 21:13

Why didn't she want to take the points?

I am really hoping that my tiredness is making me read things that aren't here.

There are more Torybots people sticking up for SueEllen on this thread than in Westminster. When this ^ is their defence, it says everything.

I hope she sticks around. I mean, she's horrific - absolutely horrific - but the GE is in sight, and she's an absolute vote-loser, except among that knot of Tory voters who adore her overt cruelty and racist language.

It's a very depressing, yet inevitable way to end the Tory term of power.

Oh good for you. You should run the speed awareness courses I bet no one has thought of keeping an eye on the speedometer.

Rhondaa · 22/05/2023 21:15

'SueEllen'

I'll ask again, can I say Keith or Sir Beer Korma then if SueEllen is allowed? As an aside why SueEllen, is there a Dallas link I'm missing?

Lots of people do it but obviously Suella either doesn't or she does and deliberately breaks the speed limit. I wonder which is worse?

MojacaSunset · 22/05/2023 21:17

It's about integrity ...........or rather her lack of it!

She abused her position and broke the ministerial code.

It's her name?

Why on earth would you want to say 'Sir Beer Korma' to anyone, ever?

Iwasafool · 22/05/2023 21:20

Maybe she doesn't like the Dallas connection so changed is to Suella. Lots of people don't use their full first name, my son reckons he knows he's in trouble if I use his full name.

Clavinova · 22/05/2023 21:24

Sir Beer Korma

Very apt - love it!

Sue Ellen was her name on her birth certificate I believe, she changed it at school I think because of teasing.

I suppose naming your daughter after a drunk on a popular TV show could lead to teasing.

Sue-Ellen is her name.

Her mum loved the Dallas thing and called her after it.
At school Suella became her nickname, and she still uses it.

Her actual name is Sue Ellen. Fact.

And she broke the speed limit. Fact

And she asked for a one-to-one speed awareness course. Fact

And she broke the ministerial code by doing so. Fact

More than once. Fact

Ah I see. So posters on here decide to use it to tease! Funny how it's one rule for Labour fans and another for everyone else.

The issue is she couldn't so paid the fine. Fact.
