Is this incredibly racist or am I being sensitive

Have had to nc as incredibly outing.

I enquired about a blossom tree installation in my restaurant, someone got back to me with a quote and I said great what’s his timescales. He let me know a date and I told him it would be suitable but nothing yet agreed.
Next thing I know he says he requires a 50% deposit because he’s ordered the blossom for the tree.
I never asked him to order the blossom, never agreed that the work would actually be done and certainly didn’t agree to give him 50% upfront.

I’ve had to block him as he is continuously ringing and messaging me and is just being plain nasty, to both my husband and I.

I think he’s gone a step too far with this Facebook post though, the reference to scrubbing korma pans and polishing shoes just gets to me, I feel he’s being racist, we have an Indian restaurant but I don’t actually go/work there so he’s obviously made that up to be spiteful.

How funny, Facebook now autopopulates when you try to search for a massive artificial blossom tree 😂

He didn’t mention the need for the deposit until after OP agreed to the dates and quote. OP decided that she didn’t want to pay such a large deposit to an unknown so didn’t agree to do so and didn’t enter into a contract with him. He then harassed her and was racist. HTH.

Even if OP was in the wrong, no sane business owner behaves like this on the internet. I ran my own business for 7 years and didn't engage in spats with clients on social media because I'm not an idiot. Even if this guy was 100% justified, the unhinged nature of his behaviour would ensure I never ever used that place!

(Assuming you were not in the kitchen scrubbing a korma pan and your husband was not outside polishing his shoes) I think yes, he is being extremely stereotypically racist.

I do though think saying that a quote and timescale is great is agreeing to the work. Although hes a fool for not asking for a deposit at that moment, before beginning the work.

On the plus side he has probably just wiped himself off the Indian restaurant market for making his trees.

You are incredibly unprofessional! I am embarrassed for you. Is this how small businesses operate these days?! I don’t think you are going to hit the big time any time soon so hold on to those deposits ;-)

I would not buy anything from a ‘businessman’ which chose the name ‘skidmark’. Maybe toilet cleaner at a push. Depends on his google reviews and professionalism I guess.

I need to know, Mr Skidmark, did the restaurant owners tell you they were on holiday in Dubai?

Did you have photos of them in their restaurant working, cleaning pans?
