Is this incredibly racist or am I being sensitive

Have had to nc as incredibly outing.

I enquired about a blossom tree installation in my restaurant, someone got back to me with a quote and I said great what’s his timescales. He let me know a date and I told him it would be suitable but nothing yet agreed.
Next thing I know he says he requires a 50% deposit because he’s ordered the blossom for the tree.
I never asked him to order the blossom, never agreed that the work would actually be done and certainly didn’t agree to give him 50% upfront.

I’ve had to block him as he is continuously ringing and messaging me and is just being plain nasty, to both my husband and I.

I think he’s gone a step too far with this Facebook post though, the reference to scrubbing korma pans and polishing shoes just gets to me, I feel he’s being racist, we have an Indian restaurant but I don’t actually go/work there so he’s obviously made that up to be spiteful.

I thought the message meant the restaurant was located in Dubai ??

Helluva crosspost.
Not sure I believe a word from anyone on this thread now.

SecretSwirrel · 22/05/2023 19:20

Agree about the subtle racism, the guy is obviously a total knob, totally unhinged and pushy with it. Make sure you leave some reviews for him too!

Scaredtobegin · 22/05/2023 19:22

Outrageously racist.

I’m Indian and sick of this shit. Always sly comments about curry and the smell of it.

People really show their lack of intelligence in these responses :(

Well now when people google it they'll find this thread instead which is a great advert Hmm

CakeBeautifulCake · 22/05/2023 19:23

Skidmark... Your last comment is Pot/Kettle/Black though...

IAteAllTheTomatoes · 22/05/2023 19:24

@MNHQ, just paging an adult to this thread please!

Most businesses aim to avoid negative reviews by, you know, providing an excellent service and having a courteous manner. Having no reviews is a huge red flag to prospective customers.

SecretSwirrel · 22/05/2023 19:24

Also 8K for a fake blossom tree????

Yes of course you do. That way you can blab and be racist and rude and no one can screw you back.

Spreadbed · 22/05/2023 19:24

I have reviews disabled. This way I can't have absolute degenerates have any impact on my business

If you treated people with respect they would leave you nice reviews.

InBeautifulKindWays · 22/05/2023 19:24

Skidmark123

Its already on other SM, posted by people here presumably. So good luck controlling that. 🤣

You only have yourself to blame.

OneTC · 22/05/2023 18:28

It's really not unusual to treat sole traders and companies without substance differently to entities of substance btw. To all the people whining about how unfair it is to small businesses

It isn't whining to point out that just because a business is not VAT registered / a Ltd company it isn't automatically shady/criminal/tax dodging.

People are suggesting that this business should be reported to HMRC!

Yes due diligence looks different for a company/sole trader/partnership and yes there are different considerations relating to credit worthiness. That isn't what is being discussed here though.

WiddlinDiddlin · 22/05/2023 19:24

So to sum up...

Skidmark has quoted, asked for a deposit, given a date for completion of work etc etc.

OP has agreed to all this, but not paid the deposit, then promised they would, work has started, and then OP gone no contact... and then tried to haggle down either the deposit or actually the full fee...

And Skidmark has been pissed off about this and posted on their business page.

OP is now pissed off about that.

IClaudine · 22/05/2023 19:24

Mr Skid, you are being silly(if you really are the business owner). When any one Googles your company, this thread will pop up.

Tellmeimcrazy · 22/05/2023 19:25

What a surprise Skidmark123 is doubling down. Also how scary that he posted on FB then deleted then came here and found the OP. Craziness

Inc0gn1to · 22/05/2023 19:26

There is no binding contract until a payment has been made (there are other features which must be present before an agreement constitutes a contract).

Maybe @Skidmark123 should spend more time learning the basics of running a business and less time slagging people off when his dealings go awry?

Just a thought.

Intarestine · 22/05/2023 19:26

He didn't come here and find the OP. Mumsnet sleuths sent him here just as they found OP's business on Facebook.

Hugasauras · 22/05/2023 19:28

It took 2 seconds to find the post on FB. No sleuthing required. You literally just type in a line from the original FB post OP posted into the FB search bar and it's the first hit Confused

Yea that's sleuthing. Who would have thought to do all that and who has time for all that if not sleuths? Cba

I mean you could have done it in the time you wrote that last post 😂 It's not rocket science.

Redebs · 22/05/2023 19:31

I would just like to know the truth about the Dubai holiday please. Before this all (hopefully) gets deleted

Butchyrestingface · 22/05/2023 19:31

@Skidmark123

Maybe you should have channelled all this energy into filing your first ever tax return? That way your business wouldn't have got struck off.
