Feel this way about the death of Andy Rourke of The Smiths. They are one of my favourite bands of all time and just listening to them now. He was such a talented musician, he's the same age as my father, and I feel sad knowing he had such a cruel disease.

@idliketogetdownnow Helen McRory was a goddess and is my idol for how to age well, stay sexy and totally boss it into 40’s and beyond. She was so beautiful and talented

Mygym · 22/05/2023 20:33

John Lennon

Peppadog · 22/05/2023 20:36

Caroline flack's death really upset me. It felt so unnecessary, she was healthy, she was young, she had so much going for her. The media and police destroyed her.

AnAngelAtMyTableWithMe · 22/05/2023 20:37

yes same, Caroline flack,

CharlotteRumpling · 22/05/2023 20:41

Oh god Caroline Flack. So unnecessary. I loved her on Strictly.

Bluebells1970 · 22/05/2023 20:59

The fact that people are sad for a woman who had been charged with assault beggars belief. She took her own life rather than face consequences for it.

Her Mum has done a great number on the general public, falling for the tortured soul sob story instead of someone who couldn't handle drugs/drink....

misslooloo · 22/05/2023 21:00

Kirsty McColl
Caron Keating
Rik Mayall

bullywee · 22/05/2023 21:04

The Queen.

JoDolce · 22/05/2023 21:04

They don't get to me as such as I didn't know them. I was sad about Chester Bennington & glad I saw Linkin Park when I had the chance.
Recently I felt sad about Paul O Grady & I felt sad for John Lydon when his wife recently died.
Despite what people think of him with his outspoken views & image he seemed to be devoted to his wife. He was interviewed by Holly W & Phil S just before she died & he almost broke down in tears on live TV. You could see the love he had for her in his eyes in photos from when they were younger

007DoubleOSeven · 22/05/2023 21:06

I'm feeling pretty sad about Ray Stevenson, who's death has just been announced :( he was a fantastic actor

LaDamaDeElche · 22/05/2023 21:13

River Phoenix, when I was a young teen, and as an adult, Alan Rickman.

GellerYeller · 22/05/2023 21:14

Kirsty MacColl
George Michael
Terry Wogan
Glenn Frey
Christine McVie

All just seemingly suddenly gone after being always there, if that makes sense.
I met Terry once very briefly. I wish I’d thanked him for making our Eurovision every year with his wry genius. He was lovely to me. We raise a glass at song 9 too.

Talent lives on though- my teens have all of the above on their playlists(except the Floral Dance, sorry Terry!)

NooNakedJacuzziness · 22/05/2023 21:20

Keith Chegwin! He was such a ray of sunshine, always made me smile

Whattodo112222 · 22/05/2023 21:24

Keith Flint most definitely.
Life long Prodigy fan and been lucky enough to see them live a few times. He was a great. Such a gentleman as well.

Scarfweather · 22/05/2023 21:33

Whitney Houston - such a massive waste of talent and her music got me through my youth.
Alan Rickman, because I didn’t ever get the chance to meet him and think he was a marvellous human.
Amy Winehouse, because she had so much more to give.
Jimmy Savile, because he escaped justice and I feel rage for the people who protected him or didn’t call him out.

LlynTegid · 22/05/2023 21:36

OP, I have been away and did not know about Andy Rourke, very sad and far too young.

Kirsty MacColl's death did affect me greatly, because with her children she had walked past me only six months previously and I knew how young they were. I went to her memorial service and remember her mother Jean speaking about her- no parent should ever have to be at their child's memorial service.

Letsbekindplease · 22/05/2023 21:37

mike from love island really got me. Still does when I think about it. I wasn’t ever a fan or followed him, but when I read it I just couldn’t get my head around it.

CabernetSauvignon · 22/05/2023 21:54

Victoria Wood, Linda Smith and Jeremy Hardy. I think it was because all three were so funny and had given me so much enjoyment, and because in all three cases it came as a total shock because they had, quite rightly, kept their illnesses private so the announcements came out of the blue. I remember feeling quite winded in particular by the announcement of Victoria Wood's death.

BettySundaes · 22/05/2023 22:12

George Michael for the loss to music
Kirsty Macoll - such a freak tragic accident
Helen Mcrory that such a force of nature could be taken down
Sean Lock & Caroline Aherne because they were just ordinary people you saw frequently on TV
Jill Dando such a shock and I had recently met her

stonebrambleboy · 22/05/2023 22:18

Ian Curtis ( Joy Division) he was badly let down by doctors.
Viola Beach, all the group and the manager drowning, horrific circumstances.

Createausername1970 · 22/05/2023 22:23

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/05/2023 10:07

Terry Pratchett. Such a brilliant writer and he not only died much too soon but in the last years of his life he had Alzheimer's and lost his incredible way with words. So cruel.

I have all the discworld books and re-read them often, but I have never read the last one. I have it, but can't bring myself to read it. But not only did I mourn the passing of Terry, I mourned Sam Vines, and not being able to follow his story. He was my favourite character.

The only other person I was really upset about was John Peel.

Panteranoir · 22/05/2023 22:24

The Queen.

I was upset for days and I'm not even a royalist. I just expected her to always be there, which is madness obviously but there you go.

Createausername1970 · 22/05/2023 22:25

doh! Autocorrect. Sam Vimes, not vines.

Sorryyoufeelthatwayy · 22/05/2023 22:27

Whowahway123 · 22/05/2023 18:52

But I only have two hands
Hope I get the chance to travel the world
But I don't have any plans
Wish that I could stay forever this young
Not afraid to close my eyes ~~~~

Those lyrics are Aloe Blacc btw, not Avicii.

Michael Jackson
Caroline Flack
River Phoenix
Victoria Wood

Paul Walkers death did, he did so much charity work unknown to many but it just amazing what he did on that front.
