I don't know if its the energy of the world or the energy of us- ie how we view things. Without sounding dramatic covid and lockdown was a big deal that affected our lives in a major way. I suspect a lot have suppressed it but if you really think about being told you can't see friends and family, people scared to go out, queueing for the supermarket and having to stay apart, hospitality closed, many jobs fundamentally changed through wfh etc and now the knock on effects eg the economy; its no wonder things feel like they have changed.

Dacadactyl · 20/05/2023 19:11

I disagree. While I didn't enjoy the lockdowns, I don't understand the hysteria about them, things didn't massively change for us.

OnlyFannys · 20/05/2023 19:13

I dont think anything "strange" is happening I think a lot of people are just pissed off and have had enough

PurpleFlower1983 · 20/05/2023 19:13

We have had a global pandemic leading to an economic crisis and the only head of state we have ever known has died. I think it’s natural that thinks will feel quite different for a while.

CharlottenBurger · 20/05/2023 19:14

It sounds like mumbo-jumbo. What exactly is the 'energy of the world'?

Malarandras · 20/05/2023 19:15

I get where your friend is coming from. Totally.

Iyiyiiii · 20/05/2023 19:16

What a load of woo bollocks....

heldinadream · 20/05/2023 19:16

Humanity has changed throughout history. We are not like people from 1000 years ago, or 100 years ago, or post WW2, or pre the year 2000 - constant change and experiences change all of us.
There's nothing weird or strange happening that can't be explained by the changes of perspective brought about by absolutely obvious events.

Justcallmebebes · 20/05/2023 19:17

What is "the energy of the world"?

LadyRos · 20/05/2023 19:20

Absolutely. People are aggressive, entitled and irrational.
I don’t know what Covid did to some

CovetedAsFuck · 20/05/2023 19:20

What does it actually mean though? It makes no sense.

Vague hand-wavy talk of “energy” just sounds a bit silly.

musixa · 20/05/2023 19:23

Things in the UK have generally got a bit more crap than they were before, but you don't have to look far for the causes of this.

I know someone who goes on about 'contacting the energy of the universe'. He does smoke a lot of weed.

PurpleFlower1983 · 20/05/2023 19:26

Also Brexit seemed to give people the right to be racist twats.

TeaParty4Me · 20/05/2023 19:27

Many people are in a post-covid slump.

I personally think it’s because so much was going on when covid was first on the scene.

Then there were lockdowns which created an entire new life for everybody and most people tried to something positive like learn how to bake, so Jo wicks workouts etc.

Then things started reopening and people were excited to do something they hadn’t done for ages.

Then life just got back to normal and people are back to having a crap work/life balance, everyone is a bit bored, the main news is about rising costs and people are just fed up.

TerfIngOnTheBeach · 20/05/2023 19:29

The two things for me in the last three years that have had the biggest impact were Covid and trans ideology. I would go through the former many times if I didn’t have to go through the latter. I have to pinch myself sometimes.

yellowsmileyface · 20/05/2023 19:29

I feel like I agree, but I also think I would have agreed with the sentiment having read it 3 years previously, or 3 years in the future. 3 years is a significant amount of time during which there's bound to be a shift in the zeitgeist. I think whatever era we're living in will always feel profoundly different to how things used to be.

In short it's an essentially meaningless statement because of course life is constantly in flux.

ThisNameIsNotAvailable · 20/05/2023 19:30

I totally agree with the sentiment. For those saying ‘what’s energy’ and saying it’s woo I interpret this as meaning the general mood of society rather than mystical forces.

I think it’s actually changed since Brexit and Trump got in. People feel validated in their intolerance and I know many people who now feel unsafe and unwelcome as a result.

Covid exacerbated things by increasing the sense of disconnect many people felt.

The current economic situation has increased general stress levels and the vast majority of us are feeling the pressure.

Oldnproud · 20/05/2023 19:30

Probably every generation or two has a scary or unsettling 'what the hell is happening! ' period during their lifetime. This is one of those.

This!

Mutabiliss · 20/05/2023 19:31

We've lived through a significant and very difficult and unsettling time with little to no support from government, leading people to believe they're on their own. This has, unsurprisingly, affected the mental health of the nation. European friends I speak to seem to have coped much better, they're just relieved to be back to normal.

AllIeveknewonlyou · 20/05/2023 19:32

Things have changed, they always do. I found that statement waffly though.

I completely agree with this. It’s like some bizarre dream.

widowtwankywashroom · 20/05/2023 19:35

Utter poppycock! The world is always changing!
Am I the only person who just goes to work and gets on with their life without being overly concerned over the worlds energy?
I really do wonder how some people would have lived through a bloody war!

You mean you don’t notice how people are you are feeling and behaving? Any trends? That’s all this means.

It’s not woo and it doesn’t mean people are crumbling. There will have been changes all through history, including wars. People will have noticed that too.
