Public displays of affection aren't my bag. I'm not the only one I know that. But I voiced my opinion about a family member being gross at the dinner table with his gf to a couple of other family members and was pretty much told I was a prude. What's your opinions? Eating each others faces at the dinner table and then caressing their inner thighs with one hand whilst shovelling chips in their mouth with the other. Am I being unreasonable to comment or what?

You sound over invested and snobbish ('shovelling chips'). You don't want to do affection in public? Fine. But I'm not sure why others being physical with each other should bother you quite so much.

PurpleChrayne · 19/05/2023 20:09

Not a fan! For religious reasons my husband and I don't touch in public, which I guess is the opposite extreme.

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/05/2023 20:10

It's gross at the dinner table.

In the wider world I don't care very much.

multivac · 19/05/2023 20:10

Also, 'gross' is what 12-year-olds say.

I LOVE that you called OP snobbish and then just were yourself!

Ageist, maybe 😎

It makes my skin crawl. I hate it.

But I do accept that it's my issue and wouldn't comment. I'd just make a mental note to cut them out of my life, or at least never go to dinner with them.

And when I'm prime minister it will be outlawed.

SocksAndTheCity · 19/05/2023 20:16

I clicked this hoping for a trip down memory lane to wax lyrical about the much loved Palm Pilot I had in the late '90s.

I see now that I misunderstood the thread title Grin

Hellohello48 · 19/05/2023 20:18

It was a description of what I saw, that's all.

And the comment was a throw away one made to another family member later on.

Generally I don't mind but that's a bit much for the dinner table.

Not a fan myself. That situation you describe would make me cringe too. It’s inappropriate and rude.

greey · 19/05/2023 20:23

When I'm involved I love PDA.
When I see others I love it too.
I don't want to see foreplay though, there is a line...

PleaseJustText · 19/05/2023 20:56

I feel uncomfortable being involved in a PDA but don't care about other people being affectionate.

BCBird · 19/05/2023 20:58

At the dinner table it's a definite no. However when I'm.in love I don't care. If I want to snog someone's face off I will.

peachespeachespeaches · 19/05/2023 21:00

I don't care 🤷🏼‍♀️

OnlyFannys · 19/05/2023 21:03

I think it's nice to see a bit of affection but full on songs in public is too much

Neverinamonthofsundays · 19/05/2023 21:07

Myself and DP are fairly affectionate in public. It does embarass the kids sometimes but they are teens so everything bothers them. We would not do it at the dinner table neither at home nor elsewhere it has to be said but on a night out in a pub or whatever we do have a snog and snuggle up in public. Horses for courses and all that. We hold hands, I would sit on his knee etc and we are not young. We love it and feel it keeps us young.

Tessisme · 19/05/2023 21:08

Nah, I wouldn't want to see that while I'm eating. I wouldn't say anything as it's none of my business, but I would think thoughts!

Kissedbyfire1 · 19/05/2023 21:10

How are we defining PDA? DH and I hold hands when out and about, but wouldn’t snog in public (or at the dinner table, even in private).

ghostyslovesheets · 19/05/2023 21:15

Holding hands, odd kiss - lovely

Swallowing each others tongues for 30 mins while feeling each other up - ewww no no no - get a ROOM

SnowyPetals · 19/05/2023 21:16

There's a line somewhere, isn't there? Holding hands and having a little snog, fine, rubbing each other's thigh with your foot, less so.

JamSandle · 19/05/2023 21:24

I like affection in public buy not kissing at the dinner table etc. Holding hands, arms or hugging is good for me.

LadyJ2023 · 19/05/2023 21:27
