Mistake by Tesco - do I tell them

Kedece2410 · 16/05/2023 21:38

So the other day Tesco notified me the van with my order had broken down & my order would probably need rescheduled

2 hours later - it arrived. Replacement driver, very apologetic. All good.

Next morning I receive an email telling me due to an unexpected error my order has been cancelled & they're very sorry & have issued a refund

Today, the full amount has been refunded - £120

My sister is horrified I'm not phoning them to let them know. Everyone else says I'd be mad to

Thoughts??

YABU - Course you should let them know
YANBU - The profits Tesco make, they can afford £120

Keep it. Why should their mistake inconvenience you? You have to ring up go through all the details etc.

Big deal. Takes two minutes to get through. I have done it before of there's been a mistake their end.

Nanny0gg · 17/05/2023 09:00

Tesco Customer Services has always been easy to contact and quick to help ime

However, I ask again Who do you think pays for the losses?

Hint: It's not Tesco

ejbaxa · 17/05/2023 09:01

I would mentally offset it with all the times I’d got crap stuff from them.

eg.
online order 6 yogurts - all going off the next day
mouldy strawberries/blueberries
leaky stuff
etc

and it’d be a computer says no situation if you waited around on maze-like phone systems and then they had nothing to charge the money against.

just leave it

Serena73 · 17/05/2023 09:02

I would keep it but not spend it yet in case they ask for it back!

Contact them for a refund for all the dodgy stuff and stop shopping with them if they're so bad !!! Simple .

How old are you? Just tell them and pay for your shopping. Deary me.

This, in spades.

CabbagePatchDole · 17/05/2023 09:07

This thread has honestly made me feel like a twat. I have never given my attitude a second thought. Until reading this thread! And it's not virtue signalling behaviour because no-one else knows I'm like this. I have never given it a minute's thought because I've always thought everybody else was the same.

You know you can get refunds pretty easily for all that stuff?

CabbagePatchDole · 17/05/2023 09:08

One last thing...how come you and your sister are so different?

Actually when that crappy stuff got delivered, I was ill and had been for several months - hence not being able to go shopping. We just sucked it up. It wasn’t “simple” at all - I was struggling to keep going.

I agree. It's depressing. And it makes me feel oh so very old, as though I come from another world.

Why old?

Are you saying if a similar thing had happened years old

I had a tescos delivery yesterday. The bread was a bit squashed so the delivery driver authorised a refund. The apple bag had split so I got a refund for that as well. He was so helpful. Just to balance it out!

I wouldn't dream of not paying for the shopping and I'd ring them and tell them. Tbh I'd imagine they'll let it go anyway.

I'm questioning if it matters to me because of the way I was brought up and if my attitude is due to the generation I belong to?

Slightly off point .Sorry to hear that. Hope you're ok now.

I love the double, triple, quadruple standards on show here.... Justifying dishonesty, stealing and hypocrisy.

'I wouldn't do it from a corner shop or butcher, because they're' good' shops for some reason, but it's fine to do it from tesco, bacause they're an evil, corrupt mega-Corp who deserve it somehow...... Yet despite that it's perfectly fine to shop there and fund them because it's cheaper/easier/more convenient or whatever excuse you want to use.

Next purchase should probably be a moral compass.

Milger · 17/05/2023 09:16

😅😅

LittleDitto · 17/05/2023 09:17

A similar thing happened to me last Christmas. It was a £320 festive shop! I didn’t even realise the money hadn’t gone for a few weeks afterwards and when I contacted them to explain, they didn’t do anything about it. Even got all the extra club card points!

Pressed send too early but you obviously got the gist.

Personally, I don’t think it’s a generational thing at all, just online shopping wasn’t a thing so didn’t have these issues.

It’s not ‘good’ vs ‘evil’

It’s £120 is a lot of money to an independent store vs drop in the ocean to Tesco

‘Next purchase should probably be a moral compass.’

🤣 ok- in the meantime I’ll still sleep at night thanks

Oreosareawful · 17/05/2023 09:22

I wouldn't be going out of my way to correct their mistake. If they called me to check it would be a simple case of I hadn't noticed. Enjoy OP!

HashtagShitShop · 17/05/2023 09:23

A good 10 years ago I had an issue with a laptop from sainsburys. I reported it online as they asked me to and took it into store as requested where the store refunded me.

Then a week later I noticed a refund from online sainsburys too for the same amount. I reported it but they denied it.... It was never taken back again so kept it. Their loss, literally!

Marchintospring · 17/05/2023 09:28

DustyLee123 · 16/05/2023 21:40

No, it’s their mistake.

So if it was the other way round you wouldn’t expect the money because it was “your mistake”?

Changechangechanging · 17/05/2023 09:31

I had an issue recently with TK Maxx when they sent me double of something - not a lot of money, about £40 but when I tried to get them to deal with it, it was dismissed with a 'please just donate it if you don't need it'. So I did just that!

It may well be the case that even if you report it, they just leave it as it is because it's more hassle than not to try and sort it.

PuppyMonkey · 17/05/2023 09:32

I’d maybe find some sort of generic email for Tesco, send the details and then wait for them to sort it out their end. Probably get lost in the internet somewhere.

CasperGutman · 17/05/2023 09:35

LeoDiCapricorn · 16/05/2023 21:56

A few years ago a Tesco van reversed into my mum's garden wall and knocked it over. The disaster of getting it sorted was terrible, they really were horrible.

So keep that money they don't deserve it for how awful they were to my poor mum. Yeah I know it doesn't really work that way. But feck em

Tesco reversed into a friend's porch when they backed a van into their driveway to turn after delivering to a neighbour. Trying to get them to pay for the damage was such a hassle they still hadn't got the issue sorted three months later when an Ocado van did the same thing. Luckily, Ocado paid out promptly, so they gave up with Tesco!
