This:

nationalconservatism.org/national-conservatism-a-statement-of-principles/

Look at the speakers;

nationalconservatism.org/natcon-uk-2023/

How can anybody who has studied any history whatsoever vote for this?

Are living in some kind of shit, TV movie about the fall of the UK?

People on the right of the Conservative party attend events like this NatCon UK one. It's not a surprise and it's not a big deal. Likewise people on the left of the Labour Party attend events organised by organisations such as the Socialist Campaign Group and The World Transformed. Again it's not a surprise and it's not a big deal.

Are you saying that no one ever made any fuss about any events attended by But Jeremy Corbyn?

newnamethanks · 17/05/2023 06:45

There's no should about it. You can, if you want to, or not. Although you might find that people don't necessarily agree with your strong opinions. That, too, would be really shocking.

@dontlookbackyourenotgoingthatway I'm glad you've posted on this although as usual it's been derailed. The cultural marxism trope has a long association with anti semitism. In fact https://www.theguardian.com/news/2019/mar/26/tory-mp-criticised-for-using-antisemitic-term-cultural-marxism
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/may/16/terms-linked-antisemitism-uk-national-conservatism-event

Thank you.

Much ostrich like behaviour on this thread.

Why are they attracting young men? Wasn't expecting that.

Is this linked to PA/incel movements?

Huh? I'm not a Labour supporter. Never voted for them in my life. Stop guessing, assuming and making stuff up in the absence of knowing. It's doing you no favours, especially when it comes to voting.

It wasn’t a comment on how you vote but your posts.

You think KS will be better somehow, but didn’t extrapolate.

You’re also convinced he’s up next. Maybe you do have an angry emoji for that too but just haven’t got there yet so I’ll ask directly and you can clear it up.

Given the comments on GC women - shrill, bigoted dinosaurs who should stop talking about issues that impact them

Do you think Labour hates women?

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2023 07:00

Some young men seem to worship at the altar of the alt -right. Linked to generally superioristic (?) views on their own race, antional identity, sexuality, gender identity -all ties in with the usual phobias, and they enjoy co opting various other issues too, such as pretending to be 'allies' of GC women. It's the crisis of masculinity crap they are fed.

In general, I find teenage boys far more generally right wing and intolerant than girls who tend towards very liberal and inclusive views.

jgw1 · 17/05/2023 07:05

MargotBamborough · 17/05/2023 06:27

Why should I have to stand as an independent candidate in order for there to be an option on my ballot paper to vote for a party which doesn't hate women?

That's really shocking.

Isn't that how democracy works?
If you find yourself without someone to vote for you have two choices, stand yourself, or support someone to stand who shares your views and discover whether or not your views are widely shared or don't vote?

This is interesting, not something I’ve seen lately, but do you think the left are tolerant?

Given the violence we’ve seen in NZ and university in US, reactions to women with threats of violence, decapitation, rape, and general inability to allow discussion - Drakeford a good example

The Tories do have a history of weaponising groups like that.

Maybe they're going for the Incel/Tate fan vote?

Not exactly a packed house, but the fact she's there at all is still concerning:

For such a well publicised speech, there was hardly anyone in attendance and I’d bet my bottom dollar, at least 20-30% were journalists. I’ve seen some videos of attendees. Proper cranks who would have no qualms about rounding up ‘undesirables’.

A conference of oddballs funded by an American think tank full of evangelicals. They can keep it. We don’t want it here.

In the long term Braverman, Cates etc. will realise this was the week that killed their careers.

That the Home Secretary shares the extreme views held by the NatCs is terrifying.
That is the same Home Secretary who has supported any number of bills and policies that create greater opportunities for violence against woman. Speaking up against one is the same as speaking up against the other.

You think that women having no candidates on the ballot paper who actually support women's rights is how democracy works?

JFC how have our standards sunk so low?

Why can't Labour and the Lib Dems just support women? Wacky idea, I know.

The message of this thread seems to be, "You must vote for left wing misogynists to get the right wing misogynists out."

Awful.

It is perfectly possible that some woman - perhaps even many woman are perfectly happy voting Labour or Lib Dem.

That's not an answer to the question that was actually asked.

There were two questions asked.
Are you still terrified?
Are you concerned when you see actual threats and actions of violence against say women speaking up?

For the avoidance of doubt. The views espoused by the NatCs including the Home Secretary and other senior Tory MPs are terrifying. That answers the first question.
That is the same Home Secretary who has supported a range of bills and policies that increase the chances of violence against women. Speaking up against the Home Secretary does indeed answer the second question. In fact since the questions are related answering the first also answers the second.

Should we conclude that those who do not speak up against the Home Secretary are less interested in violence against women?

The left and Labour show they are anti women so I’m interested in why this isn’t an issue when pp are certain they’ll be in next

I could ask the same question of you.

Are you aware that just because you feel perfectly safe and comfortable with men in women's single sex spaces and sports doesn't mean all women do?

And that this is actually a major problem for many women who are much less fortunate for you?

Malarandras · 16/05/2023 17:55

We do live in a democracy, people discussing views you disagree with is allowed. The way to deal with it is at the ballot box.

Dianne Abbott was practically excommunicated for one controversial letter. And here we have government ministers giving keynote speeches at an extremist event and nobody seems to be blinking an eyelid!

I agree OP, terrifying. And we absolutely cannot afford to be complacent about ANYthing, including abortion rights. I thought we’d learned that lesson the hard way. Nobody was ever going to back a hard Brexit were they…

No, it isn't an answer to the question.

You're claiming to be "terrified" about the implications of five MPs from a party which will soon be out of power attending a conference, but blithely ignoring questions about the implications of the party that will soon be in power condoning and colluding with those who threaten women who don't want men in their single sex spaces with actual violence.

Notonthestairs · 17/05/2023 07:33

In fairness Gove gave a speech saying that elections are won on the economy & public services.

He's right.

Of course they were. There was never any point in soft Brexit.

This was obvious to anyone who had given it any real thought.
