A huge (genuinely huge) spider ran over my shoulder tonight. I am not scared of spiders from a distance - as long as I can see them and they're in no danger of touching me. This little f*cker ran over my naked shoulder from some clothes I'd picked up to put away 😭. I've never felt fear like it and could not control my response (screaming, crying, shaking - total terror). DH squished it with a slipper and flushed it then gave me a sugary drink to calm down! DD 8 weeks old just lay in her cot wide eyed and not bothered in the slightest by my screaming.

Honestly just needed to write this all down and for people to know what happened 😂 I am still itching all over after a shower!!

YABU - they are more scared of us
YANBU - he deserved the death sentence

Not even fully covering my mortgage and expenses would convince me to willingly allow a spider to board here

I hate them. There's one under the cover of my gas metre that I'm going to enlist a neighbours kids to remove. It HAS to go. It's a voldemort situation, neither of us can live while the other survives.

YANBU. I was once getting ready in the bathroom in the morning and suddenly felt a tickling on the side of my neck. I glanced in the mirror and saw a great big black hairy legged spider the size of a dinner plate sitting on my neck!

I screamed the place down and flicked it off. If it hadn't scuttled off under the skirting board it would have been getting a splatting for sure! Grin

I don't like spiders but I wouldn't kill one. We had a HUGE false widow in our house the other day - DH is a total wimp and stood back as I popped a glass over it (screaming all the while!) and put it outside. We had a spider once that was stomping behind my dresser and I had to put a saucepan over it as it was so big. I managed to get him outside too. Please don't kill them - they are important!

Fun fact, spiders have paws, and each paw has 2 toes.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 19/05/2023 12:30

People putting them outside are killing them too fyi. They either get eaten by birds or hardy outdoor spiders, or die from the temperature difference. Fuck arsehole spiders who climb on you!! I had a giant house spider on MY SHOULDER which I then managed to dislodge ON THE BACK OF MY NECK, fucking horrible. It then camped out beneath the sofa and shot out several months later. Housemate put it outside and I hope the bastard froze to death. Dickhead spider.

Don't kill spiders. He was minding his own beeswax, bless him.

I understand that he creeped you out by scuttling across your shoulder, but still.

As my Dad used to say to me 'you try and make that (spider/moth/slug'.
And he's right.

I was bitten by a false widow a couple of years ago.

It was...unpleasant. It got infected and, yeah...
Like i say - unpleasant.

YABVU.

Spiders in the UK will do you no harm and are very beneficial.

They don't like human skin (our normal body temperature feels very hot on their little spider feet). So, if you find one on you, it got there by accident. They will not deliberately crawl on you.

Although there are a small number of spiders that bite, you have to work quite hard to persuade one to do so for two reasons. The first is explained in the paragraph above. The second is that it takes a lot of energy and spider resources to bite and produce enough venom to inject human skin. They have no incentive to do it for fun. In the highly unlikely event that you get bitten, it is unlikely to be more than a mild discomfort.

The big hairy house spiders are little poppets. We had one living in our bathroom for several years. She did absolutely no harm and we felt a bit sad when she eventually died (of natural causes).

Now for the best bit. We had a big problem with clothes moths a few years ago. The little bastards were ruining clothes, carpets, towels and other materials. We tried everything to get rid of them (I'm not sentimental about clothes moths). Someone recommended that we stop putting spiders outside and wait for the occupants of spiders' webs to leave before clearing them away (that was the hardest bit). We took that advice and we are now substantially moth free. Thank you spiders.

I dunno. A False Widow bit me a couple of years ago and was bloody awful.

Had to stop reading the replies because of all the terrifying spider anecdotes.

YANBU any spider in this house is dead. It’s me or them.
