Im a single mother of one,

i was working up until my DD (3) was born, rather than take a part time job that i knew i would always be stuck in i decided to get to college and study asubject that will lead me to a very hard working and well paid job so that i can fully support my DD in the future.

I hate recieving benefits and cannot wait untill i have finished my degree

Once i start at work i will be paying enough taxes in the future to more than cover the benefits ive recieved over the few yrs.

So why does everyone assume your a complete waste of space?? not all of us take advantage of the system!!!!

Oh come on relax

mrsruffallo · 21/02/2008 15:19

see? It's not kicking off. It is actually common sense so nanananananana

MsSparkle · 21/02/2008 16:17

"a couple of months worth of dole money are not going to break the bank"

If just a few people did that then no it wouldn't break the bank. But if you get thousands doing it then yes it is wasted money that could go towards something important like the NHS.

mrsruffallo are you for real saying that or are you just stupid?

mrsruffallo · 21/02/2008 16:24

How rude!!!! Not very sparkly are you?
I don't have a problem if a tennager doesn't want to work for a couple of months, that's all I am saying.
They have a lifetime of paying tax and going to work ahead of them. There is more to life you know.
I don't have a problem with my tax being spent on that

mrsruffallo · 21/02/2008 16:25

I meant teenager of course.
Am still - how dare you go around calling people stupid?

MsSparkle · 21/02/2008 16:31

I don't have a problem with a teenager not working for a few months either but they should do so at their own expense. Some work for a while, save a bit and spend the savings while they are taking their break.

But to suggest taking a few months out and go on the dull and then have the stupidity to say it won't make much of a difference is very rude. What sort of example is that setting to young people? If you want a holiday then do so at tax payers expense when the funds are already tight at the moment.

MsSparkle · 21/02/2008 16:31

I didn't call you stupid i asked you if you were.

mrsruffallo · 21/02/2008 16:35

But you just used 'stupidity' again.
Are YOU stupid- Do you believe things are really so tight- how could we afford a bogus war that no one wanted?
FGS they would only recieve about 50 pounds a week, its not much. That would top up their savings nicely

MsSparkle · 21/02/2008 16:36

lol

MsSparkle · 21/02/2008 16:41

Just showed your post to dp and he is phl.

mrsruffallo · 21/02/2008 16:46

That's interesting

hercules1 · 21/02/2008 16:47

mssparkle - you aren't posting in a particularly nice way.

MsSparkle · 21/02/2008 16:50

Sorry. I just cannot believe that with all the information on the news and in the news papers at the moment about the countries financial state, someone can be so, well, ignorant i guess is the right word.

hercules1 · 21/02/2008 16:51

They may have different views to you but that doesnt make them stupid or deserve to be told your husband had a good laugh too.

Gawd I sound like my mum now.

staryeyed · 21/02/2008 16:51

Mrsruffallo-You do realise what a strain that would be to the system if everyone decided they should live of the state for a while? The system is there as a fall back for those who need it for young people with no dependants or health issues to chose to live of benefits would be taking the piss!

hercules1 · 21/02/2008 16:52

I dont see why young people cant do what my friends and I did in the summer though- worked in pubs etc.

MsSparkle · 21/02/2008 16:55

It would be wonderful to give each teenager £50 a week or month to have a nice time. Like it would be nice to give each pensioner £50 each too. It would also be nice to put an extra £20 on to child bebifit and pay nurses the wage they should be getting for the hours and work they put in.

But that's all these things are, nice ideas. Totally impractical in RL and the system simply cannot afford it.

mrsruffallo · 21/02/2008 17:01

Starry Eyed/- I don' think a couple of months would be that much of a strain
Hercules- yes they could do that, many do it off the cards anyway

MsSparkle · 21/02/2008 17:04

But think of how many teenagers there are in the country. If you give the money to one then you have to give it to all! Then we aren't just talking £50, we are talking millions of pounds.

Millions of pounds that could go towards the NHS etc rather than pay for teenagers to have a good old piss up, which is what they would spend it on.

mrsruffallo · 21/02/2008 17:26

How myopic lol!!!!!

Judy1234 · 21/02/2008 17:28

When I was a student we could go on benefits in the holidays (this was in the 80s) but then we changed the system. My student age children tend to work in the holidays or certainly in the summer.

MsSparkle · 21/02/2008 17:30

mrsruffallo you do the maths! Or at least read a news paper or watch the news. It's on at 6pm.

mrsruffallo · 21/02/2008 17:31

Xenia, I was a student in the 80's too and it was common practice

mrsruffallo · 21/02/2008 17:32

MsSparkle- you just come across as rude and unpleasant tbh.

MsSparkle · 21/02/2008 17:35

If 20,000 teenagers had £50 each that would be £1,000,000. So of course it's going to reach into the millions. Millions we don't have to spare right now.

I am not saying it's a bad idea, it's just couldn't happen at the moment. Am i the only one who is seeing this?
