Honest answers please

would you give a woman (maybe Muslim maybe Jewish) a wide berth if you saw them wearing a burkini or modest (Ie fully covered) swimsuit at a pool?

if you see a woman wearing one do you give it a second thought or is it just a meh, who cares?

I'm not sure why anyone would care. It's a swimming costume.

Missingmyusername · 07/05/2023 20:34

Wouldn’t give it a second thought- don’t care.

Nevermind31 · 07/05/2023 20:34

I much prefer to see a burkini than someone’s ass hanging out in a barely there thong.
i live an area where you see plenty of both

Maireas · 07/05/2023 20:34

Wouldn't bother me. Each to their own.

clpsmum · 07/05/2023 20:34

No I would think nothing of it as it affects me in no way whatsoever

PollyThePixie · 07/05/2023 20:34

OP, why are you asking. Was someone nasty to you while you were wearing one.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 07/05/2023 20:35

I burn really easily - so if outside I wear long sleeve rash vest and board shorts. So pretty covered up.

Black doesn’t make any sense though, will just make you very hot.

I think what a shame, that they are bowing down to what a man says, when a man can do what they want.
They are agreeing to be treated like a second class citizen, men and women are equal.

I'm glad it's not me. It's time they came out of the dark ages.

Not necessarily. On the beach in Turkey I've seen families with some women wearing bikinis and some in burkinis so clearly they had a choice. I'd like to wear one to protect my pale skin but on my uk holidays I'm usually wearing a woolly jumper anyway.

Why is it bowing down to men to cover up rather than displaying your body to them?

BlueDinoRawr · 07/05/2023 20:35

I have seen it before and did double take, because it’s not something you’d often see. I remember thinking how brilliant it was that someone who wouldn’t otherwise be able to enjoy the beach could.

blahblahblah1654 · 07/05/2023 20:36

Wouldn't care at all. I'd be too busy swimming to notice myself anyway!

ComtesseDeSpair · 07/05/2023 20:36

I think the broader concept of believing God cares what you wear is daft, but I’d give no indication of my views to somebody in a swimming pool. Don’t most people try to give all strangers at the pool as wide a berth as possible, regardless of how they’re dressed?

AxolotlOnions · 07/05/2023 20:37

I looked into buying one, I'm of northern European decent and burn very easily, but they're really expensive. Why would anyone care what someone else wears at the pool/beach?

You don't think women choose the burkhini of their own devices? Let me ask you-would you mind then if I swam naked? Every person should have the right to decide on appropriate modesty for themselves.

No op, I would not give her a wide berth.

Mvslimah · 07/05/2023 20:37

Thanks ladies!

i just had the most awful experience at a public swimming pool with my kids today, first time I’ve taken them in the UK normally hubby does. Dirty looks, head shakes, and very audible comments from a few ladies.

I’d wanted to go every week for some healthy family fun, and it’s a very nice pool, lovely splash area but truthfully was a bit iffy on going back.

I admired one in the gym spa today. Almost complimented the lady on the awesome swim turban type thing she had covering her hair top but in the end I didn’t say anything at all as didn’t want to look like I was making a big deal out of it. Hope it wasn’t you OP - I was looking on in admiration, not negatively!

Growlybear83 · 07/05/2023 20:39

It doesn't bother me in the slightest. My daughter converted to Islam three years ago and always wears a burkini when she goes swimming.

That must have been horrible for you. Maybe if you go more often they will become more used to seeing you and become more tolerant

Definitely not me but I would’ve made my day ☺️

Oh no @Mvslimah . Come to a David Lloyd club in London - you’ll get none of that. Sorry you had to put up with that horrible treatment 😔

Brokenfurnitureandroses · 07/05/2023 20:40

I would glance, no more. Some days I would be envious as it hides all the bumpy, lumpy, hairy bits…

That's a real shame. I'm sorry people are so judgemental.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 07/05/2023 20:40

Sorry you had that experience. Is there another pool you can try? You shouldn’t have to, but it might be worth finding somewhere you can feel more relaxed.

I’d notice your burkini, but I know that what someone else chooses to wear is none of my business.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 07/05/2023 20:40

I saw some when I was in Egypt. They seemed very sensible to me.

In our local pool people wear all sorts. Shorts and T-shirts with presumably a swimsuit underneath.
