Do you keep your toilet bleach in the bathroom?

As the title says… do you keep your domestos or other toilet bleach in the bathroom?

if so, where? Next to the loo, in a cupboard? If not, where in the house?

Please help settle a dispute with my boyfriend as to where the bleach belongs on the house.. it’s getting contentious now 🤣🤣🤣🤣

We have no young children so keep it in one of those Joseph Joseph toilet brush holders, so probably 2 MN faux pas there

I don't keep it anywhere now as I don't use it any more but when I did it lived in the bathroom.

Ew what do you do now then? Just never Bleach the toilet?

Mine is in a little cupboard next to the toilet.

Cruelornot89 · 08/05/2023 08:38

Yep in each bathroom, on the floor next to the loo.

But if you ban bleach then you wouldn't have it available for tummy bugs.

Tummy bugs? Are we not adults on here? It's a stomach.

And I am rolling my eyes at the typical MN posters in regards to toilet brushes being disgusting...do you not clean them? It's not that hard. Every normal house that I have visited has a toilet brush. Sometimes I think I live in a parallel universe.

Dulra · 08/05/2023 08:39

Kids older now so I can keep it tucked behind the toilet in both upstairs and downstairs bathrooms

I am with you on this I clean with the bleach after using it and also replace the top brush bit all the time, no idea why people claim it is so unhygienic. It is if you put back in holder with all the toilet crap still on!

Cupcakequeen75 · 08/05/2023 08:41

We keep a bottle in a cupboard in each room, saves moving it from room to room.
Kitchen, utility, downstairs loo, bathroom & en-suite.

Desperatelyseekingcommonsense · 08/05/2023 08:42

When I redid the bathroom I had them put a cupboard under the bath. It’s just painted tongue and groove but it’s where I keep all cleaning stuff.

Oh my bad for saying tummy bug. I stand corrected. Stomach bug.

As an adult, I reckon you can use whatever word you please 🫡

LlynTegid · 08/05/2023 09:30

In the bathroom, as with all cleaning material other than washing up liquid and polish.

spottybug · 08/05/2023 09:31

Sparrow91 · 07/05/2023 16:17

thank you for the range of responses…

me viewpoint is that toilet bleach belongs to the bathroom, preferably next to the loo.

DP, keeps his in the kitchen. Which is downstairs and far far away from the loo 🤯

I just think I’m never going to poop at his house ever 🤣

Either option makes sense. Just keep it locked if you have kids

Iwasafool · 08/05/2023 09:32

My bleach is as follows:
Bottle under the sink in the kitchen
Bottle tucked behind the loo in downstairs toilet
Bottle next to the loo in bathroom
Bottle tucked behind loo in en suite

I probably use too much bleach😟

Iwasafool · 08/05/2023 09:33

I buy own brand so the 4 bottles probably cost the same as domestos.

LakieLady · 08/05/2023 09:41

In the cupboard under the sink, along with all the other bathroom cleaning stuff. Also have a bottle under the kitchen sink. I mostly use Toilet Duck on the lav though, it's the only thing that seems to keep the limescale at bay thanks to our very hard water.

When I use bleach on the lav, I put the toilet brush in the lav and soak it too, so it gets a thorough bleaching.

JuneShitfield · 08/05/2023 09:48

I keep one by each loo, and another one in the drawer under the kitchen sink for cleaning said sink.

No kids or pets in this house though. I’d keep it high up in a cupboard if I had reachy children.

FabFitFifties · 08/05/2023 09:49

Mine is visable in bathroom, under the sink. It was in locked cupboard in kitchen when DS was toddler.

AnonymousHippopotamus · 08/05/2023 09:55

IMO chlorine bleach has no place in a house. It's not necessary, it's a horribly noxious chemical, and putting it down your toilet eventually roughens the smooth surface making stuff stick more.

We don't get d/v bugs due to the lack of bleach in the house.

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 08/05/2023 09:55

Pre children it lived on the floor tucked between loo and wall

now it lives on top of the bathroom cabinet out of reach of child.

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/05/2023 09:58

NancyJoan · 07/05/2023 16:11

Yes. On the floor, next to the loo.

This. Where it can easily be used.

vdbfamily · 08/05/2023 09:59

I have a bottle of bleach beside each toilet by the loo brush. However, lack of bleach bottle would not prevent me using toilet as would not bleach after every episode of opened bowels. Bleach would be for a proper clean a couple of times a week. If toilet messy after using it, would work with toilet paper and maybe then use toilet brush but not bleach

bussteward · 08/05/2023 09:59

No bleach in the house. We’ve got a silicon loo brush thing that sits under the rim of the loo, gets cleaned through with each flush - to use it you attach a handle (kept in a cupboard) that has a button to detach the brush thing back into its holder. Not explaining v well but it means no loo brush on the floor sitting in its tin of pooey gubbins. Loo paper and rubber gloves for a big clean. Bleach damages the enamel/porcelain/whatever over the long term.

What about the chlorine in the water in your local swimming pool? Afterall you are getting that chlorine water all over your skin and getting it up your nose and in your mouth.

As for bleach degrading the toilet, I imagine the glaze of porcelain has an expiry with bleach or no bleach.

But if you ban bleach then you wouldn't have it available for tummy bugs.

Other toilet cleaners are available.

Some, including more generic ingredients, are just as horrid but work better in hard water areas to remove limescale.
