To think William should have made more effort

To learn that one line pledge to his father? He read from a card looking sideways most of the way through it, and he looked like he was bored and rushing through it. Looked terrible on screen.

I know he's lazy but it wasn't too much to ask for, was it - to memorise that line and at least fake a bit of sincerity?

Ffs he was nervous

Ah so you're looking for a Disney-esque spectacle? Completely unrealistic.

Actually you have a point - Michael Macrae MM- Meghan Markle - is that you???? 😂😂😂

Really? So you royalists are quite happy to excuse a flippant, sub-par, banal performance from the HEIR because sincerity is too much to expect?

Clearly I'm too idealistic and expect too much.

Regular toffs earn their own money, they don’t scrounge.

Right you are then .yeah they are all working their tails off in their gap years.!

MayBeeJuneSoon · 06/05/2023 19:36

Also op.....CLEARLY you watched the whole thing! 😂

So I assume you must know him personally? How do you know he is lazy? People love a moan. 🙄

Wonnle · 06/05/2023 19:37

What gets me about this whole royal thingy is why people seem to care about it sooooo much

ScribblingPixie · 06/05/2023 19:37

He was very obviously nervous.

Emeraldrings · 06/05/2023 19:39

Comedycook · 06/05/2023 18:19

If they're nervous then they're in the wrong job

Not sure you get a choice about being born in to the Royal Family or being first born.

Womencanlift · 06/05/2023 19:40

Never heard anything about the Queen (I am assuming you are meaning the late Queen Elizabeth) thinking W&K are lazy. If anything all reports I heard was that she thought the complete opposite and respected their commitment to good causes. But that won’t go with your narrative would it?

michaelmacrae · 06/05/2023 19:41

I watched quite a bit of it actually - I do enjoy the odd bit of pomp, though I'd prefer a wedding. More smiley.

I'm neither a royalist nor a republican - frankly I haven't made up my mind. I do find the current family disappointing, however, and I think they're basically phoning in their jobs, especially W&K, and I'm not a fan of Camilla either.

Explain it to me then.

There’s two hours of it, which part? Alternatively, you could print off any of the numerous analysis of the rituals you can find.there are somethings which are missing in most of them but stop being lazy and hit google.

Hbh17 · 06/05/2023 19:41

Dear Lord, the unreasonable comments on here today!
Both Charles & William read their lines because it was the most important day of their lives, in front of watching millions, they were probably nervous, and didn't want to mess it up.
Even Archbishop Justin read his lines when he celebrated communion, and he must have done that thousands of times.
Oh, and look at the film from 1953, and you will see that Philip also read his lines from a card when he pledged allegiance to QEII.
The Coronation was wonderful and the naysayers need to grow up.

LizzieSiddal · 06/05/2023 19:43

I agree with you- it likes very false as he wasn’t actually looking at his father whilst he said it. He only had to remember one line!!

Goodread1 · 06/05/2023 19:43

How do you know he is lazy then?

Do you know him personally or have inside knowledge 😏 then?@michaelmacrae

He was probably looking for reassurance at such a prestigious occasion as this..

It wasn't one line
Also, the bit "liege man of life and limb and earthly worship" may make the most articulate person stumble.

Sirzy · 06/05/2023 19:56

I have done readings at cathedral services. Beforehand I have known it off by heart, I am not generally nervous about public speaking (better at it than 1-1 speaking!) but I have been pleased I had the reading in front of me to make sure I was staying right.

Notmybloodyking · 06/05/2023 19:59

OMG12 · 06/05/2023 19:29

It’s clear that there has been a concerted (prob organised) effort by Republicans to flood Mumsnet today with negativity, they get pissed off every time millions show how much they love the pageantry, ritual and tradition. I just assume that they don’t understand what it’s all about. If it’s not for them - fine, but they are not going to affects the constitution lol. They’re just a bunch of people who’s thought processes never left the 6th form common room. I say good luck to them being miserable.,they’re pretty powerless in the great scheme of things. It’s like they think the president of the United States is really cheap to sustain😂

Good choice of username - exactly what I was thinking whilst reading your embarrassingly dim post.

AskMeMore · 06/05/2023 20:02

I understand those with longer reading parts having cue cards in case. But what William said did not need this.
But obviously many think it is fine whatever they do. So no wonder they dont make that much effort, they know they do not need to.

OP 'amiright'

Everyone 'nope'

Honestly, stop digging, the hole's big enough. We know you're a republican who hates the RF and will go out of your way to find something to carp about, but you're coming across as very faintly ridiculous now.

kittensinthekitchen · 06/05/2023 20:05

Imagine actually living your life with these kinds of thoughts, towards people you've never met and don't even know you exist 😂😂

DueyCheatemAndHow · 06/05/2023 20:05

People are fucking mental today

Scottishgirl85 · 06/05/2023 20:06

I noticed the 14 year old boy at the start was the only one not reading from cards. Speaks volumes!

SwishSwishBisch · 06/05/2023 20:06

michaelmacrae · 06/05/2023 18:11

no, i'm saying the cue cards are there as a backup. W should not have looked sideways and read off them completely, they're supposed to be just there as a prompt. He looked stupid doing so.

So the cards SHOULD be there as back up, in case he needs them. Right?
In which case have you considered that… maybe, just maybe, he needed them?!?!???
Perhaps he did memorise it, and perhaps the nerves got to him? You will never know will you, but instead you’ve chosen to accuse him of being lazy ffs 😂😂

Whatever their relationship was like later on this was widely reported in many sources https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.btimesonline.com/amp/articles/120246/20191015/kate-middleton-was-called-lazy-and-unbecoming-by-queen-elizabeth-before-duchess-married-prince-william-report.htm
