To think William should have made more effort

To learn that one line pledge to his father? He read from a card looking sideways most of the way through it, and he looked like he was bored and rushing through it. Looked terrible on screen.

I know he's lazy but it wasn't too much to ask for, was it - to memorise that line and at least fake a bit of sincerity?

It's a pledge, it's meant to be from the heart. I think William could have made more effort, it was just a few words FFS.

made more effort?!?!?! That shit was rehearsed several times in the days prior, he was dressed in heavy ass robes, had probably been up since god knows when, praying the kids didn’t mess up or play up, being watched by millions, and thinking in the back of his mind this will be him next time when his dad has gone. Jog the fu*k on, YABVU.

AllyArty · 07/05/2023 17:46

How do you know he is lazy? What a terrible throwaway remark to make.

Agree. Why were they all reading off cards?! Lazy, privileged useless lot.

This. Sums them up really.

Pointless exercise tor a pointless bunch

Pixiegirl76 · 07/05/2023 18:10

Wow..spiteful much

Greenpolkadot · 07/05/2023 18:12

Maybe he did know the words. ....and the cards were just a prompt in case he got it wrong..
The thing that amused me was the clergy bloke constantly rummaged in his sleeves for notes.

Spanielsarepainless · 07/05/2023 18:12

When Charles and Diana got married, she got Charles's name wrong in the service, so it's easy to do when under pressure and before the eyes of the world. Good for him to know that and to read it.

But the woman bishop, who read the gospel, has less excuse. She gazed steadfastly down at the page and didn't look up once. That really is her job.

Madamum18 · 07/05/2023 18:17

W & K are known for being lazy though, even the Queen (QE2) said it.

When did she say that then? It seems extremely unlikely

I dont think they are lazy. I'm not sure why you do.

Bib1234 · 07/05/2023 18:18

‘I know he’s lazy’ - how, exactly do you know that?

he isn’t allowed to get it wrong so reading it ensured he got it right.

I imagine it was quite a nerve wracking time

grow up

TheTruthWillSetYouFreeMaybe · 07/05/2023 18:18

if I had to say a very important line in front of millions, I would want a memo card too. Imagine if you stumbled on a word - guess he would have been ridiculed so, I think they all did great. After all The Archbishop of Canterbury has probably said the benediction every day for years, and he still needed a memo card

Maireas · 07/05/2023 18:19

As if the late Queen would tell anyone that W&K were lazy 🙄

Sunflowers80 · 07/05/2023 18:23

PollyPeptide · 06/05/2023 23:38

Prince Philip wasn't lazy. He saw dangerous active service. He did almost as many royal attendances as the Queen. And he didn't retire til he was 96.
He read the pledge too.

Lol such hard workers. Never mind the nannies, butlers, maids, cleaning team, servants. they barely wipe their own backsides. No wonder they secretly laugh at the gullible plebs.

TheCrystalPalace · 07/05/2023 18:24

"I know he's lazy"
You don't know anything of the sort and you diminish your argument by making such a childish and unbased allegation.

CherryCokeFanatic · 07/05/2023 18:29

All royals are lazy they shake hands and get shown round places.

PollyPeptide · 07/05/2023 18:35

The late Queens coronation was the first Coronation to be televised and people with a television had Coronation parties in their front room so family and friends could watch it with them.

That's the well worn anecdote certainly. But even if you managed to get to a house with a telly, the screen was tiny. It was like a black and white ipad. 😄 OK, that's an exaggeration, but it's not easy for a room to see a 14" screen. I don't think errors would have stood out like today.

I remember when we got a 24" tv. We thought it was huuuuge and dominated the room. When we tried to upgrade my parents to a 36, they thought it was a ridiculous size and ordered it out. I tell you what, though, my mum loves her 55" that's in her bedroom in her care home. Her eyes are darting around all over the place. Hehe.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 07/05/2023 18:40

It wasn't an entertainment show performed by actors, it was a church service. I can't recall ever seeing a church service where everyone wasn't reading from an order of service, prayer book or something similar.

Answersonapostit · 07/05/2023 18:41

All royals are lazy they shake hands and get shown round places.

And converse knowledgeably about shite they have little or no interest in to masses of strangers, smile, put people at ease, State occasions with various heads of state etc., yada yada yada. You're not very bright if that's what you think!

@michaelmacrae Bloody hell, if he had got a word wrong, you'd have been all over that like a rash too.

I bet you wouldn't be half as big and clever if you had to do it!

William is not lazy! He and Kate are one of the hardest working royals

RocketIceLollie · 07/05/2023 18:46

Seriously? What did you want him to do? Juggle some balls? Do some handstands?

PollyPeptide · 07/05/2023 18:47

I had a cleaner. I wasn't lazy.
Lots of people have cleaners, nannies and gardeners. Are they lazy?
I really don't understand why you're being so vulgar.

Once more for the cheap seats at the back.

Cue cards were used by ALL the participants at the late Queens coronation. You can see them on the film footage, particularly when Prince Philip kneels and takes the pledge of allegiance.

Everyone who has to say anything aloud reads the words from a card. I assume it is part of the protocol as was done in coronations prior to 1953 also.

So yesterday was no different to 1953.

You said no one had a television. But they did.

The Coronation was also shown at the Cinema.

And according to the history of the BBC. 10.5 million people watched it on Television and 1.5 million watched it in pubs and cinemas.
