To think Camilla should not have been crowned Queen

She should have been Princess Consort as we were told she would be. Instead the usual airbrushing of history to try and make her acceptable by clever spinning. And positive press. Bit sickening since Edward VIII had to abdicate over marrying a divorced woman.

Sorry I’ll be clearer. I find the human behaviour interesting but the lack of intelligent debate boring.

Wow, this makes you sound really clever. I'm intimidated.

Skodacool · 06/05/2023 18:04

Henry viii didn’t abdicate because of divorce

It’s Viviennemary…

Exactly

ThinWomansBrain · 06/05/2023 18:06

totally agree that she shouldn't be queen - but I don't want a monarchy, so I don't agree with the coronation, not think charles should have been made king either.

England101 · 06/05/2023 18:06

Camilla will never be a queen to me. She’s a side piece who bided her time. It’s no surprise that harry disliked her!

slowquickstep · 06/05/2023 18:06

Are you saying 2nd wives are lesser and should be treated as such ?

Mollymoostoo · 06/05/2023 18:07

Viviennemary · 06/05/2023 16:45

Its not only the fact she is divorced. She was Charles's mistress for many years. Never gave his marriage a chance. Lets whotewash all that.

She was actually with Charles before he even met Diana but the Queen did not want them to marry because she has a sexual relationship with Tom Parker Bowlers (who was then dating Anne). Anne couldn't marry Tom as he was Catholic and Charles was forced to marry Diana.
Apparently deals were done to get TPB to marry Camilla.

Why, as the Queens eldest child, do you think Charles shouldn’t have been made king? 🤷🏻‍♀️

peachespeachespeaches · 06/05/2023 18:08

Christ, who has the energy to care? The whole thing is made up nonsense anyway.

Strawberrydelight78 · 06/05/2023 18:08

Tbh I thought she looked uncomfortable when she was being crowned. I don't think she wanted it but had no choice. Charles looked much more relaxed.

whumpthereitis · 06/05/2023 17:41

Whether she wanted her to or not is irrelevant. The wife of a King is a Queen. That’s all there is to it. The public aren’t required to like it.

You don't have to crown them though. A couple of royal wives didn't get crowned because they were Catholics and hence not eligible. They sat out the coronation but were still queens.

And there is precedent for a morganatic marriage where the spouse doesn't receive the royal rank.

Either would have been possible if public opinion required it. Frankly the rules have been adjusted so many times over the years that anything is possible. But they weren't thought necessary because the overwhelming majority of the GBP are either fine with Camilla as Queen or don't give a monkeys either way.

Sounds a bit like Meghan, also a divorcee, who has married into the RF.

Figgygal · 06/05/2023 18:10

They really can't win can they?
Saint Diana v evil camilla
Nah she's been by his side for how long now?
Get over it

Camilla had a sexual relationship with Tom Parker Bowles? How very Oedipal.

Actually your post is very offensive. You suggest she should be treated as less because she is a divorcee. That’s disgusting.

This.
Plus, they are clearly very happy together and should have been together all along. She is the wife of the King, so she's the Queen.
Hopefully we've progressed a little since the 1930s.

Yawn.

Nobody cares what you think, or indeed what I think, or anybody else for that matter. The decision was made by those that make them. This just isn’t something I could care about either way.

Yawn.

Devastating riposte.

AnnesObstructiveFeather · 06/05/2023 18:18

At no point did QEII say she did not want Camilla to be called Queen.

She specifically used the phrase Queen Consort. Whereas her mother was just known as Queen Elizabeth. I think she knew exactly what she was saying.

I guess we all have different interpretations of what QEII meant.

SoupDragon · 06/05/2023 18:18

So, you don't think rules like that should change and be "modernised"?

Threeboysadogandacat · 06/05/2023 18:19

I’m not a Royalist and didn’t watch the Coronation but Camilla deserves her place as Queen. As a step grandparent myself I thought it was a lovely touch having Charles’ step grandchildren so involved. It feels like the Royal Family are moving with the times.

GoodChat · 06/05/2023 18:20

I'm glad she's been crowned Queen. It puts them in as equal standing as possible, in terms of the monarchy.

They clearly love each other. They always have. They should have been married a long, long time before they were.

Should Charles not be King? Princess Anne was divorced. Should we bypass her, too? Weren't there rumours Sophie of Wessex cheated too? So let's bypass both of them, skip Andrew, obviously. So, who now? William, who another thread suggests is incredibly lazy? Jump him and go straight to George? It's nonsense.

the queen mother was also Queen Consort. Prince Phillip was Prince Consort. Both known by just the first half of the title.

By your logic, Charles should be able to behead her if he gets fed up with her.

I hope that times have changed since the 1930s . Divorce was not viewed in the same way then. In fact, I remember how shocked I was when my friend told me her aunt was divorced, and that was 1970. I didn't know anyone who was divorced.

It's VivienneMary. Please don't give her any ideas.
