To think Camilla should not have been crowned Queen

Viviennemary · 06/05/2023 16:38

She should have been Princess Consort as we were told she would be. Instead the usual airbrushing of history to try and make her acceptable by clever spinning. And positive press. Bit sickening since Edward VIII had to abdicate over marrying a divorced woman.

You think we should have gone against the wishes of Queen Elizabeth? Why?

We couldn't possibly disagree with the Queen as she was such a fine upstanding woman paying millions to stop her son being questioned over sexual abuse allegations. Never mind just forget about that as the so called RF are above the law.

Malarandras · 06/05/2023 17:48

Actually Edward had to abdicate because he was a Nazi sympathiser and that was obviously a bit of a problem. The fact that he wanted to marry a divorcee was a convenient cover.

MakesMeFeelSad · 06/05/2023 16:43

Well he's divorced as well so I don't see the difference

Things change, divorce is much better than having your head lopped off obviously

😂😂😂

DidyouNO · 06/05/2023 17:50

So the monarchy try to keep people happy and move with the times. Now they're 'airbrushing' history. What do you want them to do? 😂

Build a bridge and get over it ffs.

They've been married for 18 years.

Hang on, how do you manage to claim to be "so interested" and "so bored" with the same thing in the same post?

Seems to me there is plenty of interesting, intelligent discussion in this thread, though OP doesn't really seem to be that keen to come back to explain her views.

Sorry I’ll be clearer. I find the human behaviour interesting but the lack of intelligent debate boring.

ConstanceReid · 06/05/2023 17:53

Charles is divorced too you know.

They’ve been married for 18 years. His first marriage was dead in the water by the time Harry was born - just over 3 years.

She is queen consort to differentiate queen consort from queen regnant in other words a queen in her own right.

She is. But the Queen specifically asked that Camilla’s title remain ‘Queen Consort’ rather than Queen. A typically diplomatic and wise suggestion.

What the Queen actually said was

"When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes king, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service,"

Because there had been talk (by Camilla herself too) that she would prefer to be known as Princess Consort. In just the same way as she chose Duchess of Cornwall rather than the title of Princess of Wales which she was entitled to have as a) the previous one (Diana) was dead and b) she was married to the Prince of Wales.

So the Queen was saying 'I don't want Camilla to be known as Princess Consort or anything else other than Queen Consort (which is exactly what all women who married Kings have been known as through history).

It's nothing to do with the late Queen saying Camilla was only worthy to be called Queen Consort not Queen. It's saying Camilla should be treated and titled in exactly the same was as Queen (Consort) Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Queen (Consort) Mary, Queen (Consort) Alexandra and so forth.

No one should be crowned, the whole thing's a celebration of privilege.

TMs have been married for 18 years. HMQ and the late Pow were married for 15 and separated for 5 of those. The late POW is mother and grandmother to a future monarch, she is in the history books and is not forgotten. What more would you like @Viviennemary ?

I agree but then again I think the whole royal family is outdated and ridiculous. But the fact of the matter is that the Queen couldn’t make Prince Philip King so why isn’t she then Princess Camilla. Sexist

At the time the Queen married Philip, the rank of King outranked Queen, so he remained Prince. Yes it was sexist, but it was in line with 1000 years of historical precedent and it was over 70 years ago.

Camilla's head on a spike outside the palace probably.

She might be a grumpy looking old bat. ….. but, she’s our grumpy looking old bat. So I don’t really care if she’s Queen. I’m not overly keen on her, but she’s ours.

Wether you’re for or against the monarchy, it doesn’t matter. You should just be proud to be British, and know that no other country has a monarchy as popular as ours.

THIS

If we didn’t have a royal family we would have to vote in a president. Neither have any ‘real’ power.

The president would just be a drain to the tax payer and all though the royal family costs us, they bring in more money from tourism then we spend on them.

Viviennemary · 06/05/2023 16:45

Its not only the fact she is divorced. She was Charles's mistress for many years. Never gave his marriage a chance. Lets whotewash all that.

Diana had affairs too, plus the manipulation to show herself as a victim was through the roof.

Madamecastafiore · 06/05/2023 17:59

Get a life and move on.

mixedrecycling · 06/05/2023 18:00

Churches that do not recognise divorce do not have a category of person who is a 'divorcee'.

Once you are married you remain married, in the eyes of that church, until your spouse dies. You might separate, you might have a civil divorce, but the marriage remains in the eyes of the church.

So, to a church with that attitude, Charles was never a divorcee, he was married to Diana even after their civil divorce, and not free to marry again. After her death he was, obviously, no longer married and therefore free to marry again.

They would also say that Camilla is still married to APB, not that she is a 'divorcee'

But in any case, the CofE does recognise divorce these days, so it is splitting hairs...

Quite.

It seems that the statement should have had the bit about being Queen Consort and then continued to say "just to clarify Queen Consort is Queen, like my mum was, and my gran etc. So using the official Queen Consort in this statement doesn't mean I expect her to have that used all the time and actually Queen Consort is some kind of lower title. She'll be Queen Consort, crowned and also known as Queen Camilla just like my mum was Queen Consort and crowned and known as Queen Elizabeth".

But the late Queen and her advisors probably didn't anticipate so many people being so thick and insisting through their own wilful ignorance that QC was some kind of new title and meant something different to Queen.

I’ve met Diana and Camilla. Both were lovely.

Camilla, as the Kings wife, will be referred to as the Queen. As would Diana if she was alive and still married to the King. As anyone else married to the king would be.

Daffodilwoman · 06/05/2023 18:02

Get over it.
Millions of people get divorced.

Willmafrockfit · 06/05/2023 18:02

she is good for the royal family, she is good for King Charles
i like her
she has Jack Russells and was friends with saint Paul O'Grady

Of course she was going to be Queen. The King himself is divorced. Should he not be King?

Should he not be king? No, he shouldn’t be king.
