To think Camilla should not have been crowned Queen

She should have been Princess Consort as we were told she would be. Instead the usual airbrushing of history to try and make her acceptable by clever spinning. And positive press. Bit sickening since Edward VIII had to abdicate over marrying a divorced woman.

Here we go again....... Yawn, yawn, yawn.

It's upstairs! I would do and it is lovely and though I say so myself, it is far more beautiful than Di's! (it's only me that thinks this probably!) It was made by a tailor in silk in a town not far from me..
If I catch up with you and can do a pic, I will !

Brilliant! Please do 🙏

saoirse31 · 06/05/2023 20:28

It's a whitewash for the new king, nothing else. I guess as 'subjects' of said king, you choose what you want, what you believe. Honestly, you are all ignoring the way you and they treated Princess Diana but, you do you. It's a joke of a coronation tbh.

40thmonarch · 06/05/2023 20:29

@Callixte no.

All stuff written about them says camilla found Charles hard work and she was absolutely smitten with apb but he was the ultimate cad.

Viviennemary · 06/05/2023 19:46

Absolutely. That is what I meant. A reward for years of adultery.

You are quite something, you know that?

It's got nothing to do with that. They were free to marry, they married each other, he's now King and therefore she's Queen. Are you going to forbid all marriages that started from affairs from ever benefiting either person?

Marriage and the laws around it aren't based around punishing people for misdemeanours under any circumstances.

Jonei · 06/05/2023 20:31

I don't think Camila should be queen, no op, I don't think Charles should be king either tbh, but not much can be done about either.

Zuve · 06/05/2023 20:32

What ever??

AskMeMore · 06/05/2023 20:33

The Queen did not even attend the marriage of Charles and Camilla as it was against her faith.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 06/05/2023 20:35

Perhaps Charles assumed that an eventual open relationship was a normal expectation for a royal but this messed with her head as her fairytale marriage could not accommodate such a thing.

But she cheated several times and first. So how did he mess with her head? You can't condemn his cheating whilst condoning hers.

whumpthereitis · 06/05/2023 20:35

Sudeko · 06/05/2023 19:43

Diana explained that she was only cheating to get back at Charles for doing it to her. She wanted him to feel the pain but of course, he didn't because he gave zero fucks about her.

So that means she can be the OW in the marriages of other women without criticism? Fucking LOL. Wasn’t Andrew Parker Bowles repeatedly cheating on Camilla throughout their marriage? Because by your own logic she was just cheating to get back at him, so it’s all good.

personally I can’t imagine why the (very selective) emotional investment in the marriages of strangers. As far as hobbies go, anyway.

Meltinthemiddle · 06/05/2023 20:35

What a silly thing to say. It was Camilla he should have married in the first place, the fact they have been married for 18 years proves that.

loislovesstewie · 06/05/2023 20:35

For info George iv contracted an illegal marriage to Maria Fitzherbert. He would not have been permitted to marry her as she was Roman catholic. He then married, officially, Caroline of Brunswick. He apparently always love Mrs Fitzherherbert. As I have said, they all had somewhat colourful lives.

The Queen did not even attend the marriage of Charles and Camilla as it was against her faith.

Yet she attended Meghan and Harry's and Meghan was divorced. Times change.

Very convenient explanation. So why did she choose married men to cheat with? Did she want other women to feel the pain?

Love it @Roussette

Aww thx, I feel like an old dinosaur on here with a dress like that! But it was of its time!

Serenster · 06/05/2023 20:40

Pure 80s charm, Roussette! 😀

Sudeko - what about Diana’s stalking and harassment of Oliver Hoare? Was that because of something Charles did to her too, or was that just her own bad behaviour?

Maireas · 06/05/2023 20:41

Oh my goodness, @Roussette . So pretty 😍 how lovely.

Roussette · 06/05/2023 20:42

Thx Serenster and Maireas.

Seems like a bloody lifetime ago!

Even me... the sort of Republican, would say that's a bit mean.

Being an old bint myself.

There's been a lot of mission creep with Camilla from the original promise she'd be princess consort to the late queen apparently saying she could be queen consort to being crowned queen. Not to mention the mind-boggling amount of propaganda, astroturfing and attacks on her predecessor including horrible smears from Diana's own son. It's all very unpleasant but forelock-tuggers are having none of it. (the Diana stuff was a bit before my time so I don't have an opinion on it, it'd be nice if Camilla fans were held to the standard they expect anyone disagreeing with them to conform to though)

You need to check your facts. There was no promise that she would be princess consort; there was simply an expression of intention. How many times have you changed your intentions over the last 18 years?

The queen didn't "apparently" say she should be known as queen consort, she issued an official expression of her wishes to that effect. There is no "mission creep" in Camilla being crowned queen, the queen consort is the queen, and Camilla has been queen since her husband acceded.

You may choose to try to maintain a belief in Diana's sanctitude by proclaiming that any negative information is "propaganda", but unfortunately for you there is far too much indisputable evidence that she was no saint.
