To not understand why anyone would not watch the Coronation?

OK, I get that you are an edgy republican, but are you not a little bit nosy?
And if you really don't care, why are you on every Coronation thread telling everyone you don't care? Why would you not just ignore them, as you don't care?
I personally have no time for the Royal family and think they should be abolished completely, but I can't imagine not watching such a big thing for the whole country, in the same way I watched the euro Cup final even though I could not name any of the players as I have no interest in football.
Why wouldn't you?

Why can't you imagine not watching it @Katypp ?

I'm a bit curious, but no more, so I'll watch the news later, there'll be highlights, I don't need to watch the two hours or whatever.

Shockingly, I didn't watch the European Cup either.
I'll be watching Eurovision though, so make of that what you will.

OP people on here are miserable and I bet they did watch it. Im as poor as can be and that amount of gold and jewels isn’t something I can even comprehend but I liked watching it. There’s something surreal about watching traditions that have gone on for 1000 years.

But part of the reason you are poor is perhaps because they are wasting so much money on nonsense like this.

It's not 'miserable' to object to this. The whole event is farcical.

booksandbrooks · 06/05/2023 16:27

I'm an edgy republican and I loved it Grin

Wouldn't have put it on for myself but did for others and got really into it. Very glad I watched it. It's a piece of history that contains so much history, tradition, page try and music.

Dagnabit · 06/05/2023 16:27

My husband is out chaperoning my daughter and her friends on an outing and I’m watching a film while wrapping her birthday presents. I’m not offended by it but it just doesn’t interest me.

Shintyhappypeople · 06/05/2023 16:28

I was working but I wouldn't have watched it because it doesn't interest me at all. I don't feel edgy, I feel pretty average. No one at work mentioned it at all.

Mytholmroyd · 06/05/2023 16:31

Just seen this on twitter 😊

To not understand why anyone would not watch the Coronation?
Cherryblossoms85 · 06/05/2023 16:32

I agree. Don't particularly like Charles but it was quite interesting to watch and I love looking at all the outfits.

QueenMegan · 06/05/2023 16:32

Because I'd prefer to paint my kitchen and watch it dry.

BlueMoonCity · 06/05/2023 16:33

I watch football because it interests me (pretty sure my name is a giveaway there though) but the coronation I had no interest 🤷‍♀️

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 06/05/2023 16:33

I don't care. I'm not curious. I hate football, much for the same reason, money involved is sickening and vulgar.

I have never watched the euros or a world cup and even if England got to the finals, I still wouldn't watch because I don't care about that either.

People are allowed to voice their opinions on saying they hate the institution of the monarchy, without meaning they're curious about it.

There's nothing edgy about not wanting a monarchy ffs.

Should we all just shut up and tug our forelocks with all the other nutters who sleep on the street to watch someone they don't know, drive past in a fucking golden carriage?

Whataninsight · 06/05/2023 16:33

In all seriousness

how the heck do people like the Op get on in life?

Perhaps they’re the colleague at work that invariably tumbleweed follows after they say something? Or the neighbour you cross the street to avoid?

TooOldForThisNonsense · 06/05/2023 16:35

I watched, I’m ambivalent about the RF but was curious as it has been so long since the last one. I can totally understand people not being interested or watching though, each to their own.

alltheevennumbers · 06/05/2023 16:36

Because the average human only gets 692,040 hours on earth and there are better ways of spending every one of them?

Debbiejellinksy · 06/05/2023 16:37

Not interested in it at all, much more interested in my garden. Plus there will likely another one within the next 10 years should I be more so inclined by then...

iklboo · 06/05/2023 16:41

It's got balls all to do with being an 'edgy republican' (sweeping statement much). I've never been interested in the Royal Family. I'm not interested in millions of pounds being spunked off into a load of pomp for a figurehead. Especially when people are living in poverty.

I'm far from miserable and definitely didn't watch it - won't watch repeats either. I worked overtime instead.

Chchchchchangesss · 06/05/2023 16:45

Since you asked - i couldn't give less of shit about the monarchy so I'm not watching it. It's a part of history, sure, but not one that makes me feel anything but revulsion for our overlords.

Ineedtoloseweightnow · 06/05/2023 16:47

No interest in it and didn’t even know it was today I thought it was Monday hence the day off. Picked my dd up from my mums and she had it on which was how I found out. Tbh I don’t watch anything regardless of how big it is if it doesn’t interest me. Been avoiding all coronation threads but your title intrigued me as to your reasoning.

JoBrodie · 06/05/2023 16:48

Another one here who didn't watch it (ditto football, no interest in or curiosity about that). I was ready to switch it on to watch the flypast to see the (my favourite) but weather prevented it so I didn't.

Of course I hope they all had a lovely time doing the ceremonial bits and that those who watched it enjoyed it too. I bet I'd have enjoyed the spectacle had I been in the venue at close quarters, but otherwise I can't get too excited about it.

I'm a big fan of bunting though...

Didn't watch it. Went to a spa. Dosent bother me I just really don't care about watching stuff like this. Didn't watch the queens funeral either

BettyfromBristol · 06/05/2023 16:50

DH is not an Edgy Republican but he remembers being bored to death at the last coronation and assumed this one would be much the same. Sanding skirting boards had more appeal today.

MrNorrell · 06/05/2023 16:51

I was at work. My shift actually ended at 7am, but we are crippling understaffed and I left work at midday after a very trying morning trying to direct agency staff who've never worked there before. I still don't think I'd have found watching the Coronation any more enjoyable.

On an adjacent note, the correlation between the people I know who don't follow politics or current affairs at all because it's boring/ complicated/ pointless, and the people I know who've gone all out for the Coronation because it's "history in the making" is an almost perfect one.

Hayliebells · 06/05/2023 16:52

Because I don't agree that it's a big thing for the country. Yes, we're told it's supposed to be, but why is it? I honestly think most people don't care, so it's hardly surprising if they don't watch it.

ShowUs · 06/05/2023 16:52

I don’t have a TV!

But I will be watching the highlights on YouTube when they come on.

I would struggle to sit and watch for hours anyway though.

I’m not a royalist but this is part of history and we’ll always remember this day and what happened so if I had a TV I’d probably have it on in the background.

The shops are practically empty though which has been great for me.

MrsAvocet · 06/05/2023 16:52

I didn't watch. I had regular weekend stuff that still needed doing and cakes to bake for a family event tomorrow. I might watch the highlights tonight as I am mildly interested in the historical aspects of the ceremony but I certainly had no interest in spending hours in front of the tv watching the whole thing. I'm pretty ambivalent about the monarchy really.

ChubbyMorticia · 06/05/2023 16:53

I’m Canadian, and the only reason I’m even aware it’s happening today is from being on Mumsnet 😂

I’m not a fan of the royal family. Diana was the exception for me. I was very young when I was woken up in the wee hours to watch the wedding, and have tremendous respect for her work with HIV/AIDS patients.
