To not understand why anyone would not watch the Coronation?

OK, I get that you are an edgy republican, but are you not a little bit nosy?
And if you really don't care, why are you on every Coronation thread telling everyone you don't care? Why would you not just ignore them, as you don't care?
I personally have no time for the Royal family and think they should be abolished completely, but I can't imagine not watching such a big thing for the whole country, in the same way I watched the euro Cup final even though I could not name any of the players as I have no interest in football.
Why wouldn't you?

Working all weekend, like many others.

Mirabai · 06/05/2023 15:46

Because I’m a Republican. I cannot stand Charles. I saw a pic of Camilla being crowned and was surprised how pissed off I felt that Charles groomed a teenager to be queen, fucked up her life and then elbowed her out of the way in favour of Camilla. Awful family.

mbosnz · 06/05/2023 15:46

Not remotely interested in giving it space in our home and lives.

NameChangingIsMySuperPower · 06/05/2023 15:46

It's long and boring, I watched about 5 minutes while I was washing up.

theGooHasGone · 06/05/2023 15:46

Katypp · 06/05/2023 14:02

That's sort of what I mean. I suppose I don't understand why the only person on my Facebook feed who mentions the Coronation is the one sharing how little she cares about it.
I mean, I don't care about sport but I don't feel the need to tell people how little I care.

You felt the need to come here and tell people how you think them posting about how they don't care makes them an "edgy republican" though didn't you?

If you don't care that they don't care why are you here? People like different things.

I agree - no respect for him at all. Not fit to be king. Should have been Anne.

Because a day in the garden is more productive and interesting. Because I can laugh at the Twitter comments when we stop for a tea break without the tedium of watching it. (I hear Penny Mordaunt played a blinder)

Because there’s plenty of rain forecast so why not make the most of the dry weather. Because planting sweetpeas is infinitely more satisfying than watching a tedious adulterer being handed magic items while his sex offender brother watches.

She did. It was the Penny Mordaunt Show. She was on stage longer than he was!

IHeartGeneHunt · 06/05/2023 15:50

I didn't watch it because I'm not interested in it, not curious at all, don't like anything about it. (This is my first comment on here about it so I'm not on other threads telling everyone I don't like it.)
I've never watched a royal wedding or funeral or whatever either.
Today I hoovered, washed up, made a nut roast and some bread, and then watched an old drama thing with Caroline Quentin in it that I found on YouTube.

That doesn't make me ignorant, as a pp claims. The historical aspect of the whole thing is the fact that he is now the king; I don't need to see all the boring details to be aware that history has been made.

And he's been king since last September; the coronation has no legal significance (though it has one legal requirement in the Coronation Oath). It's a religious/ceremonial (hard to separate the two with our monarchy) event, not a constitutional one.

I wonder whether the posters like @Ginnybaby who feel it's ignorant not to witness 'history in the making' stay up to watch election and referendum results and the like?

100% this!

I do tend to stay up, as far as I can, to watch election results come in - and have stayed up all night in the past to watch referendum results.

The coronation? Not so much. To watch the ceremony of him being crowned, when he has been king since September? No thanks.

Mind you I also didn't watch a second of the queens funeral.

AlizeeEasy · 06/05/2023 15:50

I feel the opposite. I find it baffling when people who hate football suddenly become the biggest fans of the World Cup. I’m not being edgy by not watching the coronation, I’m not interested. I’m not going to waste my Saturday watching someone I’ll never meet or have any interest in meeting having a crown put on his head.

OuiLaLa · 06/05/2023 15:51

saw approx 1 min. Ridiculous. Took kids out to play instead and enjoyed a slightly quieter lunch at a great cafe!

daisymoonlight · 06/05/2023 15:52

I suspect they're saying this because it feels like its bloody everywhere at the moment and you cant escape it. The news about it is on every major channel, netflix has programmes about it, there is a bank holiday on Monday because of it, it IS being made a huge deal by the media so of course people might feel a bit sick of hearing about it- hence why they are expressing that they are a bit fed up of it and dont care. People do the exact same thing when the world cup is on- its not that surprising or unusual to express that you are a little fed up of something when its bloody everywhere.

But you not watching changes nothing. Are you not a little bit curious?

What a strange take

Ihatepickingausername3 · 06/05/2023 15:53

No I haven’t watched it. I’ve dodged it on the radio too. I give absolutely no fucks.

Sloth66 · 06/05/2023 15:55

I didn’t watch any. I have zero interest in watching two liars and adulterers being pulled along in an upmarket cart before being anointed with holy oil. Ridiculous, and absurd waste of money.

MrsMiddleMother · 06/05/2023 15:55

Not watching because I don't care about it. The king Is king whether we all watch or not.

Trez1510 · 06/05/2023 15:55

I don't believe in fairytales.

Particularly, I don't believe in fairytales where someone is born superior to all others.

Add into that nonsense he is still to be considered the religious and, presumably, moral leader after he continued to fuck his ex-girlfriend whilst married to someone else. She's just as bad - fucking a married man and cheating on her own husband.

Rather than question why people would choose to not watch this farce, my question is: how can anyone, anywhere, tug their forelock and doff their cap to this pair of lying, cheating adulterers and consider them 'divine'?

FatGirlSwim · 06/05/2023 15:55

I watched it, but it’s not beyond my imagination that not everyone is interested. Don’t know why you’d watch it if you found it boring!
I don’t watch the football because it doesn’t interest me and I don’t care who wins.

Redebs · 06/05/2023 15:56

Was it on today?

Yes, I'm the same with elections - I find how the various people respond interesting and significant as well as finding out the results themselves; and there is also the sense of observing as things are decided - as distinct from observing a rehearsed ceremony that is probably of more historical interest for what it reflects than for what it drives or creates.

Terven · 06/05/2023 15:56

I loved it. I found the liturgy interesting with its retained Catholic passages.

Toomanylatenightprogs · 06/05/2023 15:56

I’m not interested in tennis, circuses or cooking so I don’t watch any of those things on TV. The monarchy should have been disbanded years ago, I have zero interest in them so why would I watch them on TV? They could all disappear tomorrow, I’d feel no loss.

AppleandSpice · 06/05/2023 15:57

Watched about 10 minutes before turning tv over as I found it mind numbingly boring. Dh and I needed to get the shopping anyway so went to the supermarket instead.

Not watching it does make a difference though, doesn’t it? It will make a difference to the viewing figures, so it will be apparent that not everyone is interested in watching &
that lots of people are in fact Republicans or indifferent to the Monarchy. That way, we might not have to put up with such excessive wall to wall coverage next Coronation.
