Wasn’t this about the place they were protesting? My understanding (which might be wrong) was they had been given a designated bit of the route they could hold their demo in, but the head of the organisation had declined to stay there so they were arrested for protesting in the wrong place?

all protests / marches etc have to be approved with an approved route / place - that’s not just these guys. Maybe the ‘just stop oil’ ones had agreed a route?!?

RavenclawDiadem · 06/05/2023 09:46

Similar removals - not arrests - during the Queen's funeral procession in Edinburgh.

Police were afraid that the protestors would "get a doing" from everyone else in the crowd who held opposing views.

Well this thread certainly explains why we're in the position we're in.

People don't understand what peaceful protest is.

They don't understand what a 'right' is.

They don't understand why these things are important.

This.

It's depressing but hardly surprising considering how many people were longing to report their neighbours over the slightest thing during Covid, salivating over reports of people in China being welded and boarded into their homes and applauding police for stopping people for daring to go for a walk with a "picnic".

m00rfarm · 06/05/2023 09:47

cakeorwine · 06/05/2023 09:44

They were unloading placards from a van.

How is that not peaceful?

There were HUGE yellow banners being carried obstructing everyones' views. There was chanting Not my King, with other people shouting God Save the King. how long before it turned nasty? Nip it in the bud JUST FOR ONE DAY!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/05/2023 09:47

We need you on here, @Roussette - a few more notches on "the space was pre-agreed so as not to disrupt" perhaps?

You're going to be plastered at this rate, with your self-imposed bet for a bottle glass each time it happens!! Grin

There are people out there with huge union jacks and massive hats on - should they be arrested for blocking the views of others?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/05/2023 09:49

the comments on here are terrifying in their sheep-like obedience

Indeed, and as I said on the other thread it may well be wise to be careful what you wish for ...

RoseRobot · 06/05/2023 09:50

Oldsu · 06/05/2023 09:17

Trouble is the protesters wont be monitoring who joins them and therefore could be infiltrated by people who want to do serious harm, not to the RF they wont get near them but possibly to innocent bystanders. Its good they were stopped

How on earth do you know this? This is utterly illogical. The celebrators won;t be checking either. More likely that genuine disruptors or aggressors would hide among the pro-Royal crowds.

pointythings · 06/05/2023 09:51

Well, exactly. The mental gymnastics of the pro-arrest lot on here are Olympic standard.

As for not protesting for 'just one day' - freedom means you should be able to protest on any bloody day you want to.

HoldingTheDoor · 06/05/2023 09:51

Nip it in the bud JUST FOR ONE DAY!

It's the fucking Coronation! If there's an appropriate day for Republicans to protest this is it! A day that sums up and ostentatiously displays everything that's wrong with the Monarchy. And you're hardly tripping over Republican protestors the other 364 days of the year, are you?

CathyorClaire · 06/05/2023 09:51

I'm shocked but I suppose it was on the cards after the arrest of the man pointing out the simple truth about Andrew a few months back.

thanksamillion · 06/05/2023 09:51

For all those saying not today, when is a good time? When the Queen was alive we were told it was disrespectful to dissent, when she died and in the aftermath it was disrespectful and now we've got to the coronation day and it's it's apparently still not appropriate. When would you like people to express a different viewpoint?

Againstmachine · 06/05/2023 09:51

All these people saying it's not the time to protest are not dim, It's the perfect time to protest at the biggest thing for the monarchy.

The people who say this will find a reason to say you shouldnt protest at any time.

rattymol · 06/05/2023 09:52

So protestors should only be allowed if they carry no placards and stay silent?

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 06/05/2023 09:52

I would like to know a bit more about the reasons for the arrest, but on the face of it, this seems deeply concerning.

It is frightening how far the Tories have been able to shift this country in a relatively short time.

Elphame · 06/05/2023 09:52

Utterly appalling. They should not be arrested for saying what millions of us agree with,

And what’s wirh all the show biz stars? Why on earth should Lionel Ritchie be invited?

m00rfarm · 06/05/2023 09:53

cakeorwine · 06/05/2023 09:48

  • No dissent allowed, eh

It IS possible to dissent without causing obstruction and irritation on a day that is very special to many people. People who have spent time and money traveling to see the event. The right to protest does not come above the right to enjoy. To be honest, I take more notice of people who make a reasoned argument, than someone hysterically waving a large banner shouting at me. I was cross with the Grand National protestors as well. I understand that the protestors at the Coronation had agreed a position to stand, but had already moved away from this position. Perhaps we will get more clarity later.

calimali · 06/05/2023 09:53

Arresting protestors for their own good because the crowd might turn on them? Do you know how terrifying that is to read?? You cannot randomly arrest people who have broken no law 'for their own safety'.

What a convenient way to smash all dissenting views and politics. For their own safety? Sheesh.

rattymol · 06/05/2023 09:53

Royalists want to pretend everyone supports the monarchy. No wonder they support arresting protesters

thanksamillion · 06/05/2023 09:53

And those saying that it might turn nasty, there are plenty of police around to stamp on anything illegal the moment it happens. Not the moment (or hours) before it might.

3BSHKATS · 06/05/2023 09:53

rattymol · 06/05/2023 09:43

And the arrests are being widely reported abroad. Not a good look for the UK.

That may well have achieved their aim then, get on the news global that not the whole of the UK are gormless twits

He'd have been even more pissed off if everyone had ignored him.

BTW why is every post on his tiresome thread coming up in BOLD?

Face it republicans, you make a deal of noise but can't raise any serious support. Sorry.
