AIBU to be a bit annoyed

Neighbours have decided to get a trampoline, it's literally the biggest thing I've ever seen, takes over the whole garden... whatever they want in their garden that's not my business.. but what's annoying me is anytime the kids and multiple kids friends are on the trampoline which is for hours after school, in the evening.. they can see straight into my house, so I'm in the kitchen or trying to have dinner, or just relaxing on the couch and the kids are bouncing and trying to get my attention or wave or just constantly staring in. (They don't even need to jump to see in, it's a very very high trampoline so even just sitting on it they are able to see straight in)

I know they're only kids and they are only having a bit of fun, but it's just really annoying me and now I feel I've no privacy

AIBU to be annoyed by this?

I'm soooo thrilled to read that your neighbours have put some black material around the trampoline so your problem has been sorted. I really felt sorry for you ... in my previous house the next door neighbour's brats oops, sorry ... children, used to climb up onto the roof of their garden shed and sit and look into my garden. I used to hate it. I was a sun worshipper, and loved laying out on a sun bed, but having her boys sitting viewing me ruined it. At my next house my neighbours did the same as yours ... purchased a whopping great trampoline, so for the next couple of summers I had to endure bloody kids popping head and shoulders above my six foot fence. They used to call out to me, even though I never responded. Heck, I used to fume! Surely one is entitled to some privacy when in one's garden??? Apparently not! No problems now, the kid has grown up, and rarely comes out in the daylight, like most children his age. Peace at last!

They'll get bored with it.
It'll be on ebay tye end of the year.

SaponificationQueen · 08/05/2023 22:02

That would drive me crazy. First I would talk to the parents. They probably don’t know it’s a problem.

I just ordered some cling film from Amazon to put up on some windows in my house. I get some really bright light coming through them as the sun is rising and setting. It allows the light through, but not the harsh light of the sun, and no one can see through them from outside.

HappyHolidays22 · 08/05/2023 22:40

I seriously wouldn’t worry too much - the kids will lose interest in the trampoline at some point. If you make a big deal out of it, it’s likely to drag the whole thing out. Let them get on with in and in another month, they’ll hardly use the thing.

Lorralorr · 08/05/2023 22:41

Honestly think you just have to ignore them and they will stop (really sound like a mum here haha). Are you currently looking at them and waving back/looking annoyed? Just literally ignore them totally as if the windows blocks them out and you can’t see them. You probably can’t ignore an adult waving for your attention but you can definitely ignore a child. And in a couple days they’ll get bored, think you can’t see them and stop. YANBU for being annoyed though.

Go to the garden centre and get some fast growing plants. Best wishes.

CountryMouse22 · 09/05/2023 12:09

Bamboo has no legal height limit and grows very fast!

CountryMouse22 · 09/05/2023 12:09

P.S. At least kids eventually grow up!

Skodacool · 09/05/2023 14:22

OP, if you think your neighbours are aware of the problem why don’t you talk to them about it and perhaps ask the children not to stare at you

mustgetoffmn · 11/05/2023 09:05

You are definitely NBU. But not sure what you can do about it. Is there a way you can screen your window? Buy some tall potted plant or put up trellis or something? Bit hard to comment without understanding the layout. It would be the noise which would get to me.
